Internet's not bad so it must be the VPN. How much difference would it make? It doesn't matter, it should wrap up some time this weekend so long as my PC doesn't crash.

Is this normal? Do all Origin games download so slow? This is literally my first ever time using Origin for anything.

Do you have VPN connection on? If you have then disable that connection without touching preload.

Without VPN connection you will get full bandwidth that your connection is capable of. Origin can provide very very good speeds.

I asked this before the game was out anywhere and I was told yes, but I just wanna double-check since people have played it now. Can I play the game without micromanaging? Preferably as a hack n slash where all I really need to worry about is my character.

Yes, play on easy difficulty.

I'm trying to go into this mostly blind but I do have a couple questions.

1) Do party members have fixed subclasses or am I free to choose those?

2) Is it viable to have neither a Knight Enchanter nor a Champion in your party? It seems that those are the dedicated "healer" and tank roles.

1) Fixed

2) Absolutely. Any party arrangement is valid unless you're talking hard or nightmare difficulty. Parties that have less defenses are bound to have more damage potential. Most parties will balance out with good ability use.

yo guys sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but I am trying to grab this game using hola and origin for 40 bucks of the mexican origin store.. I am paying with my paypal but it keeps denying payment on the Origin page. Am I doing something wrong?

God, I just keep finding new areas. Climbing cliff sides and finding groves, caves and old ruins hidden from sight. Just amazing work. I also love the need for torches or 'Veil Fire' in areas that are truly dark. Man, I hate it that my trial time is almost up.

Soooo, GAF confirms Bioware is back?

The soundtrack downloaded with my Origin Preload. It's really good from the tracks I've heard so far; I especially like the Orlais Theme track.

What the hell... the download size is only 24GB.

How did they cram the big world in a relatively small file size? Or is it partial?

Skyrim on consoles was like 5gb. You can fit in a lot of stuff assuming you use decent compression and don't use a lot of prerendered cutscenes.

So torn on going digital vs. physical

If I dont go digital, Ill likely just wait for a price drop which I expect to see since it's the holiday season

One more question:

Can party members viably use any weapon available to them? Like, Sera is supposed to be an archer, but can I make her a melee character?

Yes, any Rogue can use dual daggers or bows, even Varric though he'll only use Bianca and no other bow. So you can make Cole an archer or Cassandra and 2 handed warrior or Iron Bull a sword and shield warrior.

whoa yours too? I think I was at like 48% and I got a blue screen. first blue screen on 8.1 I ever got.
Yeah, kind of odd. As long as that's the only occurrence, I'm ok.
Cassandra=Templar
Blackwall=Champion
The Iron Bull=Reaver
Vivienne=Knight Enchanter
Dorian=Necromancer
Solas=Rift Mage
Cole=Assassin
Varric=Artificer
Sera=Tempest
Shinobi602's OP thread will have a helluva of info packed there.

Would a 2 handed Champion be nonsense or could that work?

Don't know till we try, but I don't see why not. It's all in what traits and abilities you choose. I'm sure there are some Champion abilities that can be used to help create a specific kind of 2 hander.

They never left for me. But this is their best work, in my opinion. It just has more features and a world like nothing else they have done before. And this is just my impressions from the huge first main area that I have still not seen all of.

Oh God. Imagine if they give us huge open areas to explore like this on individual planets in Mass Effect.

Crap man, now I'm getting all giddy for ME 4. Didn't ME2 have a big area to explore on a buggy or something? I'm betting they have big zones for ME4, and the technology will be impressive. The colors, the neon, the lights, with current gen effects going on. Yep, hopefully Bioware isn't very tired after DA:I.

So uhhh..that soundtrack...

I just wanted to listen to a few tracks and savor the rest for the game...but I'm half way through the OST and can't stop. it's fantastic.

Since more are asking for it: You gain a talent point per level. There seems to be a soft limit on how many levels you can gain, which is around 25-27. Most players will end around level 20-23 if you don't follow all the side quests.

Once you choose your class (mage, warrior, rogue/archer) at the beginning, you will have access to 3 different trees. Each tree has 12 talents. Later, you will have to pick a Specialization, which has 11 talents. So, during a regular play, you should be able to max at least 2 of any of those trees. Or spread your points in all of them.
What does the specialization do?

Doesn't surprise me. Two trees maxed out or close to maxed out is the norm for me. Which works fine. Because I'll be a mage with elemental and knight enchanter maxed out. I'll make the other mage the best support based tree and necromancer. Nothing too scary.
