Dragon Age: Inquisition Review Thread

So I just beat Legacy in one sitting (it took me all afternoon). Really is the perfect way to wrap up Dragon Age II. Glad I bothered to do it, whether it's relevant to Inquisition or not.

Honestly, I don't recall seeing any slowdown when I played that bit, so it might be on their end. Or I could just be forgetting things.

Agreed that they seem largely identical otherwise.

Playing the game I haven't noticed any frame rate issues. There are some camera placement bugs in cut scenes thought. Had a talk with Cas try to look through her workout sword dummy

Looks practically identical across.

Can't really judge framerate by this, but otherwise it looks similar on all three. In the sequence when the camera panned up to the breach, though, there was pretty bad stuttering on the Xbox One version, and a little on the PS4 version.

I'd love to hear what others have to point out. Of course, we'll have to wait for DF for a real comparison, right?

To me X1 clearly is blurriest version because 900p causes some detail to be lost.

Some segments on X1 seem to be brighter than on PS 4, but for most part they seem equal graphically when ignoring resolution difference.

On PC textures seem higher resolution, but can be side result of having clearly best lightning all around. Very noticeable in comparison segment where inquisitor is holding bow in front of ruined bridge.

BioWare's 150-200 hour claims don't feel so far fetch now.

Some quest spoilers just to give general atmosphere:
Finding all the Shards give 50 Influence. But finding all the landmarks - at least in that area - gave 500 Influence, 2 Power, a new quest for an awesome sword, and a new Operation for schematics.

I remember an interview many years ago given from someone at bioware in relation to the original Dragon Age. He then stated that it wasnt realistic to expected upcoming RPGs to match the lenght and scope of classic rpgs such Baldurs gate 2 for example, since the cost, resources and complexities of game development had increased exponentially. That statement made me kind of sad back then.. but here we are, 8 or so years later with biowares next huge game just days from release, and it seems to be their biggest one yet.

I am very pleased.

PC clearly has far better lighting, most evident in the last couple minutes of IGN's comparison. PC version has good rich tones while the XB1 and PS4 are completely whited out with way too much light.

I really like this team:

You know what, I did see that.

Lol, yeah. I remember that.

It could be the machine I'm on. Here's the moment if you want to take a look.

Yeah, I see the judder (and a hiccup or two on the PC side as well) in the video. I just don't remember any when I played through that bit during early access.

Alright, I'm locking in my choice for all to see. Dwarven rogue. I'm not going to let myself stray from that or I'm going to spend hours of indecision on Tuesday. Now, tempest or assassin...

How much do you think most reviewers played before getting to that 'sweet spot' where they felt they'd seen and done enough to justifiably review it?

Most of the reviews I read had the reviewer stopping at around 80 hours,

BioWare's 150-200 hour claims don't feel so far fetch now.

And some people finished Origins in 35 hours while others insisted that it was impossible to "do everything" in less than 60.

Not sure that actually has anything to do with lighting at all. It looks like they switched monitors for a few console segments, because the contrast goes way up for a bit, then in the next comparison it matches the PC again.

Sure, I've completed DAO in the higher 30s before, but my initial play took almost twice that. Even though I beat games a good bit fast than most it seems I still think DAI could clock in at over 100. It's a significantly larger game than DAO was. Both in size of the world and size of script. DAO has about 900,000 words total in the game, where as DAI has nearly 1 million words of recorded dialogue alone, with likely far more words total. Plus most reviewers don't have a habit of taking their time when playing games.

There will always be someone who beats the game well below average, but for most people looking to do everything the advertised times probably aren't that far off.

Why would monitors factor in? I'd assume IGN has professional grade capture cards and setups, I wouldn't think they'd be affected by monitor setups and would just record directly from the system.

Is there going to be a multi-player thread for this game or somewhere we can exchage PSN ID's?

Most likely. I'm probably going to ask on Monday if I can get some people to join me for some multiplayer that night since I'm getting it at midnight. I know if I start single player up I'm not going to sleep lol

It's going to be so long before I even touch the multi that no one's going to want me on their team.

If you're on PS4 I'll be the same. I'll play single player almost exclusively. And unlike ME3 I won't hold a grudge against the multiplayer for ruining single player for me.

How's the MP going to influence the SP story progression, if the MP is going to influence SP at all?

I think Bioware made a really good job with ME3 MP.

Not influence it at all. ME3 multi was great apparently but I refused to play it once ME3 basically told me it was near impossible to get enough galactic readiness without playing it. Such a fuck you to people who didn't want to touch it that they had to fix it later.

I've been wondering if I should vpn on Monday, I keep saying "nah" but then I see pictures and streams and say "yeah!" So conflicted. Maybe I should just get home late, then do some work around the house, hang out, do family stuff, call people, then bam 11PM CST!

That's what I've been mulling over. Explore the VPN thing and getting rolling asap, or just what until 11pm CST and throw down after distracting myself after work? I mean, somehow I've lasted this long...

Just digitally preordered the deluxe edition.

Never played any of the series. Gamble- but based on reviews and GAF love, hoping to enjoy.

AC unity tossed in lieu.

Welcome to the hype. Do some research on the lore. There's a lore thread here
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=931900

With the OP and some videos linked on the first page to help out with the lore.

The Inquisition OT will have summaries to the plot of the first two games.
