Dragon Age: Origins |OT| Letting The Fade fade out of memory

How useful is stealing skill? Does it give you rare items? Is it worth spending precious skill point on stealing? Game is focused on combat and you get only one skill point to spend every 2 or 3 levels.

Damn, i realized afterward that those ghosts in Dalish ruins can give me Arcane Warrior specialisation.

IS THERE ANY PLACE WHERE I CAN BUY ARCANE WARRIOR MANUAL BOOK?

You can 100% because I bought it (and then the next quest I got it free via Redcliffe castle!) but I cant remember exactly where I got the manual..

I used it maybe 10 times total.. the game doesnt tell you what you stole, just "Item Recieved" and since I never have much room in my inventory I couldnt be arsed to keep going through and trying to remember what wasnt there before I stole.

Well it does earn you a bit of money if you steal from everyone (you get more money from named npcs so you can stick just to those if it's too tedious otherwise) but a few exceptions aside you never get anything good. If you've a rogue with you anyway it's not a huge investment however.

You can sort items by date so any completely new item would be on top

Quickie question, would appreciate if someone could answer fast; those gemstones you find (sapphires, quartz, etc.), can you do anything with them or are they only for selling?

From the limited amount of time i fooled with steal, i feel its worth it if you have points to spare. In the beginning i got a bunch of pots, some crafting stuff, and a decent chunk of money.

Hmm.. regarding skill points, i believe rogues get 1 skill point every 2 levels.. so thats 10 points in addition to the 2 you get at creation if the rogue is your main.

Must have skills for a Rogue main character imo would be Coercion, Trap Making, Poisons and Combat Training. Coercion ill prolly bump to 4. Trap making either 2 or 4 (those are the levels you get a bonus to Detect Traps range). Poisons i dont really know.. i know you need 1 point to apply.. if you can use all poisons with 1 point ill prolly keep it at that and have another character go to 4. Combat Training is 4 since the game is so combat heavy. So thats 11-13 points i need to spend by level 20.

Reading about Stealing at level 4 Stealing you can rob enemies during combat. That might be useful.

Any insight from someone that has been high teens/early twenties with a Rogue?

Played all origins stories except one - Dwarf Commoner. Finishing all stories can take around 7-8 hrs easily if you play it on normal or hard on PC. Dwarf Noble story is fucking awesome. I think this may be best one out of six.

"kiss my ass trian"

"why does it speak out of turn?"

DietRob

i've been begging for over 5 years.
It was my 30th birthday this weekend so I didn't get to play at all. Was busy doing family and party stuff. I feel so out of the loop 3 days without Dragon Age. Eh.. at least I know I won't go into convulsions from addiction. :lol

I'm gonna try to make up for lost time today hopefully. After work.

i think the one of the best things about the Dwarf Noble one.. is it really gives you a reason and a face to why you need to go back to Orzammar (i keep wanting to say Orgrimmar lol). The Human Noble has a reason but not really a face to put with what happened. Also the unfinished business you have is in Orzammar unlike the Human Noble. i await the day i enter my city once more :lol

I could listen to Leliana read a dictionary, I love that accent. Even if she is dumb as hell.

Her accent sounds like a cross between British and French. Its odd, yet strangely sexy ;PHer accent sounds like a cross between British and French. Its odd, yet strangely sexy ;P

I'm guessing you're not from Eurp? Sounds more like Scandanavian to me, maybe Swedish?

Anyone dared venture into the dark abyss that is the PS3-version yet, and thus have any joyus or horrible impressions to tell?

What's the best thing anybody has found in a locked chest?

Other than some side quest related items, I don't think I have found anything worthwhile in a chest and I have looted most of them.

Just read back a few pages. Framerate is a game killer for some on the PS3 version.

360 and PC version are smooth, but 360 version has some bad textures.

That sums it up.

I laughed out loud a little more in the Noble dwarf origins part when one of the merchants slowly faints when you talk to him :D

The undead are kicking my ass in Redcliffe. I can fend the first wave fine, but when I get into the village, I beat half of their army and then the rest destroys me. Need to rethink my strategy.

In addition to the other poster's suggestion - you can bring your whole party back up the hill and put them on the bridge. Make sure your party is either in the middle or far back end of the bridge (closer to the windmill). Tell them to stay there and then taunt the undead to come up the hill. Run back to the bridge and now you have a choke point where only 1 or 2 undead can attack you at a time.

Textures look decent on the 360, from where I'm sitting. Not a huge difference from the PC, seeing as that version has some N64 quality textures at certain points. It does look a bit washed out compared to the PC version, though. The overall difference is bigger than the difference in texture quality.

As I feared. Guess it's just keep filling up that wallet until I can afford a new laptop/PC.
Thanks!

Been loving the hell out of this game so far, but man, redcliffe sucks.

Redcliffe spoilers:
The night battle was ridiculous, like 8 waves of zombies, not fun on pc normal. Also, the overcrowded battles (7+ zombies) are too chaotic, though they are
challenging, they get tiresome if every battle is like that.

Against my principles i just decided to kill the boy connor, the bitch can cry all she wants, no way im going back to that boring ass fade.

I ended up having to
aggro a couple at a time.

That's actually what I've been doing for most of the rough battles. If I get to a point where that's not feasible and it's still a paint to get past, I flip the difficulty down to easy.

it's a
couple of 'Nugs'. But the funny bit comes when you click on them after the fact. The text description was awesome.

man, i wish i had a week off or something...yesterday i played until 4, it's been a long time since i stayed up this late for a game.
wynne is so bloody awesome, breezed through circle of magi!!
i'm going to have 3 mages in my party, because either i don't know how to play a rogue or leliana's too weak as physical dps. i think my dog hits harder than her.

Is there open exploration in this game? I swear evertime I go somewere new they hit me with a cutscene. I want to just wander around in the wild and level up a little or does that not matter because the enemies scale?

Man, sometimes the party banter that comes up is a riot.

I've been running with Shale, Sten and Wynne as my members pretty exclusively. Finally got a new set of armor for my warrior, so I figured I'd pass my hand me downs to Sten since it was a bit better than what he had.

Was hanging around Redcliffe anyway, noticed that my inventory was pretty full so I stripped Sten down and started making my way over to the blacksmith to do some quick selling when Wynne just started a conversation with Sten asking if he was cold, then commenting on how hard it must be to find clothing in his size. :lol

If you're looking for Elder Scrolls style open exploration, you're not gonna find it. you can go back to most areas you've been to but the world map travel system forces you to several predefined zones - and not all of them have enemies.

My dog stole Morrigan's underwear yesterday. Seriously.

Ok so got to finally play some more after dealing with more moving BS, but how the heck to you use "tactics"? I took 2 talents into tactics and have yet to find anything on how you get or use them.

this was my major gripe as i was expecting a single player wow, but the combat/story/characters are just too good to be worrying about anything else.

I agree. my gripes with the game are minor compared to what I love about it.

that said... After Mass Effect 2, which I fully expect to have the same "hub world" of their previous games this decade, I would like to see Bioware try their hand at a more open, Elder Scrolls type world to explore but with Bioware's more focused story-telling.

I get all tingly thinking of that possibility.

TBH it is rather hard to make an very tight story driven RPG in an open world. It has been tried before... but it is not easy. Then again if anybody can do it, it surely is Bioware or Bethesda. Fallout came pretty close IMHO.

I need to get back into Fallout. After ME2? or after Alpha Protocol? oh dear...

Actually, I just remembered that Bioware is talking really big about how much story is going to play a big role and drive things forward in their Star Wars MMO -- obviously an open world game. plus it's an even trickier task to get story to matter in an MMO.

I've read that the recent WoW expansions have done a good job at that and now Bioware is taking a shot at it.

We can only hope that they take that experience and apply what they learn to their future single player efforts.

Okay, after you kill
Morrigan's "mother" I got the best fatality scene I've seen in the game yet. My warrior hopped on top of her head, stabbed and sliced at her with his axe and then jumped off, rolled and stood up as she toppled to the ground.

Bad ass.

Also, now that I have good armor and weapons for my warrior he's really a blast to play. My main is a mage but I'm finding I prefer setting her up with tactics and letting her auto-heal/attack while I smash things with my shield and my sweet ass massive armor.
