Dragon Age: Veilguard |OT| 'Oof': A non-buynary return to form

From what I can gather, the Necromancer (older white guy) is okay. But I don't get the impression any of the characters are actually good.
Watched the prologue on Cohhs stream. Tbh the prologue looked great. I have a feeling that the overall writing is mediocre to decent, but that one character and the whole conversation around Taash is just abysmal and cringe

I can publish my videos safely now since it's already out. There is a total of 25 videos on the playlist, including the one from Taash that EA took down and everyone grabbed it, but I got no credit for, sadly. Also updated my review: https://www.pcmrace.com/2024/10/28/dragon-age-the-veilguard-review-pc/

Hard to say, but I figure it will do fine. Reviews were solid and the vast majority of gamers don't give a shit about woke/anti-woke nonsense that the terminally online on both sides screech about and just play games that appeal to them.

I think the vast majority of gamers aren't 24/7 on Twitter and following YouTube clickbait channels, they'll read or watch a few positive reviews and then buy the game without knowing there's a controversy about woke content in the game. Those people are in it for the gameplay and the story, and I think a good number will be annoyed as hell by the woke nonsense in the game. The vast majority of people are OK with homosexuality, transsexuality or even this newfangled "non-binary" identity. But tolerance is not the same as acceptance. When such content is shoved down their throat when they were expecting a fun fantasy game without any overt political messaging, a good number of these gamers won't be amused.

It'll still sell well initially, and then the test re: whether most gamers are turned off by the heavy handed politics will come out through longer term sales, and the game's perception over time.

Time to get spicy with Taash
Is there ANY WAY to prevent interacting with that character at all or just tell her to shut her mouth because the end of the world is more important than her feelings? Can we kick her from the group as you could do in inquisition? If not, can you just have her abandoned in the camp and never hear from her real world bullshit again?

Looks like all the wookie trash is concentraded in one single character and If i can dodge any "I'm nonbinary" from happening I may get the game.

So far so good; The story seems alright thus far.

It’s refreshing getting a good pc version on day one for once. I’m going to give it a try on my other rig so I can play in ultrawide later.

If player impressions are decent and the cringe ass writing mostly applies to that character (hopefully you can ignore it, but i doubt) then i might pick this up when i get the Pro. Lots of "if"s tho

Haven't played much, but the game is quite impressive looking. The cinematics have a real pre-rendered presence to them, and the hair qualty/physics have set a new bar in gaming IMO. More importantly though, is it runs like a dream.

I'm able to play at maxed out settings at near-6k resolution using DLDSR + DLSS Quality. With Frame Gen I'm getting about 85 fps with my 4090/7800X3D combo.

A few quick shots, nothing super special just yet:

I really liked the first cutscene. Very well choreographed and acted. Hair is amazing. i love that i was allowed to fuck shit up. Hope the rest of the game makes me play as a no-nonsense clint eastwood type.

But i love the quality of the storytelling here. We dont get games with this caliber of cutscenes a lot, let alone WRPGs. I am very excited to see the rest. Had to stop after getting control for the first time, but i cant wait to jump right in after Halloween.

The hair animation and quality looks incredible.

That magnificent hair!

I have hated on the game and said that I would not buy it.

Now I am thinking after seeing the hair that I was a bit too harsh.

Don't judge me.

Who is that beautiful Valkyrie with the hair? Is that fem shep? Damnit boy.

Edit: The way it cascades over her enemies. An explosion that blasts away the dull, gray years between the now and that one fiery night when she was mine.

Yeah I mean god damn, this shit looks legitimately pre-rendered.

Yeah, i was surprised by the fluidity of the cutscene. Its not just the hair but the camera movement and choreography. if it wasnt for the hair i selected in the character creator, i wouldve thought that it was a pre-rendered scene.

i wonder if all cutscenes are like this or if they just put in all their effort into this one scene.
