I'm actually hyped about this because of that fucking hair now.

Look how hollow my beliefs are when I see something I want, lol.

Anyway, so maybe it's gonna be good in some shexy ways then I suppose. I'm probably fucking in. Damnit. I'm so torn but I shit you not that hair right there, it makes the game for me.

Yall think a game is a culmination of a whole bunch of shit but sometimes it can just be one really good moment. THAT, fellas, is a really good moment. Good job on parts of this bioware. Good job. Wow. I mean, I feel like this might be alright if I can just kinda mute some sections, that is 100% okay with me if I get a good 40 hour wrpg out of it and get to lay with that hairdo in some fashion, it's like, this ain't gonna be so bad afterall maybe....now I'm worried about what the guys will think when they read this, lol.

So are all the cutscenes like that?

Edit: Yep, it's building. I'm like so in now it's crazy. This happened in less than 5 minutes.

Haven't played much, but the game is quite impressive looking. The cinematics have a real pre-rendered presence to them, and the hair qualty/physics have set a new bar in gaming IMO. More importantly though, is it runs like a dream.

I'm able to play at maxed out settings at near-6k resolution using DLDSR + DLSS Quality. With Frame Gen I'm getting about 85 fps with my 4090/7800X3D combo.
Hows performance native 4k? You have that much upsampling, downsampling, sidesampling and framegen going at 6k (?) I have no idea if performance is good or bad there lol.

I have a similar set up.

I haven’t tried native 4K yet personally, but going off of the performance I’m getting with my settings,Native 4K maxed out should have no problem staying above 60 FPS without using any of the DLSS stuff.

I did watch the DF video but always good to get confirmation.

Tempted to get it just for the performance, probably best to wait a few weeks see how the dust settles first. Thanks.

I'm trying to finish DA:Inquistion before jumping into this. I thought I'd be done in time, but the game keeps going and going. I turned down the combat to easy just to get through it quicker and it's still taking me forever.

That magnificent hair!

I have hated on the game and said that I would not buy it.

Now I am thinking after seeing the hair that I was a bit too harsh.

Don't judge me.

Who is that beautiful Valkyrie with the hair? Is that fem shep? Damnit boy.

Edit: The way it cascades over her enemies. An explosion that blasts away the dull, gray years between the now and that one fiery night when she was mine.

I'm sorry but seeing someone with a Vegeta avatar gushing about hair made me laugh out loud

Graphics look great. I’m surprised how well made it is compared to a lot of other AAA games out there. What’s odd is that it doesn’t feel like this is a KB/M type of game. Dragon Age Origins and Inquisition felt good on PC because of that classic CRPG GUI feeling. This feels more like a console game.

Overall I am actually having a good time with it. The level design has been very straightforward. Pretty to look at, very linear at times. I feel like this is a solid 8.5/10, but it’s very early. I’m in the 2nd area you get to explore/combat.

Ubisoft should learn a thing or two from the quality of this game.

No one is talking much about combat and progression. How is that? What classes feel good, dont feel good?
I am having a good time with Warrior. They’ve got dodge attacks, Liu Kang’s flying kick type skills, and a shield throw. I’m seeing skills for burning blades and reflecting attacks with the shield. Perfect block type skills. I don’t know anything about the other classes. It certainly isn’t the OG DA type of combat.

I’ve played 2.5 hours of it. Exploration and combat are what I’m enjoying. The story is serviceable, especially if you’re familiar with DA’s past games. I’m not diving deep into character relationships with this though.

5 hours in and outside of FIFA-provided hair tech from Frostbite...

I guess it's a good RPG if your mental age is somewhere between 14 and 19. Because every character here speaks fluent Wheadonspeak and like to state the obvious things with great pathos.

The writing room is assuming you are as dumb as the writers and everything is presented in a familiar 'fantasy slop' style that is so prevalent on Amazon or Netflix. It's a kids story made for kids and written for pre-teens. Writing is pure cringe with random jokes thrown around like it is some sort of a Marvel move, Andraste save us.

Don't even think about this abomination as some sort of Dragon Age sequel either. You have only 4 choices that are carried over from the previous games and all of them are from DAI. Characters visuals are all over the place and we've got another round of useless redesigns of legacy stuff like darkspawn.

Gameplay? Yeah, it's just tedious slop too, just with ARPG flavour. Now with red barrels and magical turrets and without proper party management. Yeah, it's Dragon Age alright.

I'm not even mad, I'm just disappointed. Especially since even Solas here is nothing more than a cheap bait that's is quickly resolved in the Prologue and thrown away because reasons.

I do hope that Mass Effect is in the safer hands.

Combat is ok. Playing as warrior and you get to wield both single and dual handed weapons. Animations are really fluid. Weapons dont hit as hard as they should and its tough to see when enemies attack, but it has the potential to be great.

Graphics are meh aside from the hair. Cutscenes are ok. Nothing special like the very first one. Just finished the prologue but nothing too offensive so far. It's ok.

I've seen S+SH and 2H, but how does dual wielding feel?

I ended up trying Native 4K with all the DLSS stuff off and the highest quality TAA on for anti-aliasing, and I do indeed get 60-80fps in the opening parts of the game (which are pretty dense and impressive looking so should be a decent gauge of performance throughout).

This game triggered so many people on gaf holy shit. The amount of hate is absolutely unwarranted and quite worrying. ANyway, just came back from playing it for 4 hours. Here are my early thoughts about it:

The presentation is certainly quite good, very cinematcish, everything is high quality, no bugs, no jankynes to it, reminds me of playing Mass Effect. The character models is certainly very Fortnite looking which Im not much of a fan, actually not even fortnite looking, reminds me of Kingdoms of Amalur. It's not bad tho. Just a matter of taste. I am playing on Nightmare and the game is incredibly easy,,, combat is mass Effectized if you wanna call it that, it's certainly not a dragon age game, but a mass effect game with dragon age skills and minor mechanics. Still if you can get past that, and you're not a fucking crybaby stuck in the past "buit but its not like Origins!!!!" then ull have no issues enjoying the combat. Voice acting is good, soundtrack is fantastic so far, sounds effects all decent. Runs very well, minus a few stutters here and there and some very large frame drops in heavy vegetation areas but I am playing it on max. Most of the areas were very nice looking, tho too much bloom and some draw distance issues here and there but not that annoying. Main story seems hype so far so we'll see.

Overall its absolute a fine game, not a 10, not a 1 but a 7.5 I'd say so far, maybe 8. It's far superior to Dragon Age 2 thats for sure, and so far better than Inquisition as well. Nothing woke or in your face atm.

Definitely been waiting for some real impressions from you all.

Does it feel like a Dragon Age game?

Overall the responses seem positive.

Also, here to dispel any myths about intolerance and support my fellow Gaffers that are enjoying this release!

Oh right forgot to mention, dont use RT in this game. Reflections are only for water which is only in very rare places and the one place there is, you wont stare at it for more than 1 minute so 0 reasons to use it and RTAO is useless visually. They were clearly tacked on just because its cool to have RT.

Enjoying it so far. Dialogue hasn't turned me into an incel yet.
Is there a lot of bad humor and random jokes? I really hate that more than anything.
I've been reading in the lower scored reviews that the stuff people here aren't liking is mostly in the side character-quests and not the main story. Some even recommended just blasting through the main story, regardless of how you might get a somewhat worse ending.

Not sure if this will affect how you do your playthrough or not, but I figured I'd share.

Main story is anything BUT goofy or funny, at least so far. Havent reached side-quests yet, however I dont think they impact the main story, however companions skills are related to their relation with you, aka you cant upgrade their spells if you dont level up with them socially. The banter in missions is decent, nothing bad so far.

Honestly, I'm happy if people are enjoying it.
I know how much work is involved in making big games, and the sheer time and pressure investment that devs have to endure in order to create product up to contemporary expectations.

That being said, without hyperbole, I have to state for the record that my dislike of the visual style employed is genuinely visceral! I stress this is not to do with anything political/culture war related. Its purely the aesthetics. Sorry for making 2 posts about this, I'm truthfully shocked by my aversive reaction.

You might dislike this take, but everything you've been describing about this game, at least gameplay-wise, sounds like a fully realized version of Dragon Age 2.

You are correct about it being an evolved version of Dragon Age 2. Even the dialogue choices are exactly the same as in Dragon Age 2. My hate for Dragon Age 2 was mostly the entire atmosphere/level design and how they ruined the main story with bs.

Ive got EA Play... so I caved and had to try it. It was just sitting there, my willpower was waning. I already rage quit CoD, I needed a single player game to calm my old frayed nerves.

Honestly......... first hour or so is really fun.

If it keeps this pace Ill be wolfing down some crow. But lets see Im still super early.

I still don't really dig the overall change in art style, personal preference just not my thing. But from a sheer graphics standpoint, this game is really gorgeous. The hair and cape physics in this game... ohhhhh baby!!

Ive got everything cranked to max, 4090 is feasting. Its a fucking beaut. And it runs like a top.

Combat is also really fun so far... but Im super early so can't comment on the complaints it gets stale. But im pleasantly surprised. It feels better than it looked in previews, very fluid.

I also really like the ability to customize the difficulty. Ive got enemy aggression and damage cranked up high so I get punished if I suck... but their health and resistances at normal so they arent sponges.

Also no facepalming dialogue just yet (but still early). Im guessing if I can just ignore Taash and bypass those hyper cringe scenes... we'll be in good shape.

I only have 2 serious complaints so far:

- Female character creator... 100% slider on tits and ass still being flat as a board is lame. Let me make my busty femme fatale you prudes. You get your top scars fine, give me my D cups.
- And this is actually the real complaint here.... NO FUCKING GREATSWORDS?!? Am I missing something??? Take your 2 handed hammers and axes and stick up your fucking ass. How do you have the guts to call yourself an action fantasy RPG and not have goddamn greatswords?!? Abhorrent. Brutal. Absolutely repugnant. Everyone got so fixated on the identify politics that this war crime completely slid under the radar. I am a greatsword user through and through. This actually pisses me off.
