Dragon Age Veilguard writer joins Bethesda, RIP TES6

About to beat off
Now, one of the writers behind Dragon Age Veilguard has been hired at Bethesda as a Senior Quest Designer.

John Dombrow was a Senior Writer/Narrative Designer at BioWare and helped craft Davrin's story arc, Veil Jumper storyline, and a few other missions from the game. His other work for BioWare also includes co-leading writing on Mass Effect Andromeda and being credited as a senior writer for Anthem.

John's BioWare experience may raise questions, but he's also helped make some of the best-written games ever. His most recent work is for the upcoming Ghost of Yotei, while in the past, he has worked for Telltale Games, writing for Game of Thrones.

Ugh! He worked on Ghost of Yotei . . .

I'd be more worried if the game didn't have a fucking story written already after a decade, than this dude joining.
Yea that story should already be in special edition leather bound releases in it's 5th edition at Barnes and Nobel by now.
Hearing they are just NOW talking about a story, I need a doctor to put my rolled eyes back in place.

I still believe Elder Scrolls VI will be one of the best games of all times.

Hope not too many of the fucked up shit gets put in but Elder Scrolls and Fallout are my two favorite series so I have to accept it even if there is.

Apparently he also wrote some good stuff in Mass Effect trilogy. But who knows how competent/incompetent/brainwashed he is these days. That said, it's not like Bethesda writing can get any worse.

Starfield is a great game and I have full faith in Elder Scrolls 6. It's scientifically impossible that it's going to be bad.

As for this guy, I hope he puts a trans Argonian romantic novel in some cave that's 100 pages so everyone's head explodes.

Bethesda's writing just kinda ended after Morrowind. Don't know what happened during the development of Oblivion, but there was a significant drop in quality and that drop just continued ever since...
Every time I bring up that Michael Kirkbride, I get shouted down by Oblivionists that he wasn't the main writer for Morrowind and is overrated. But I still think that him leaving was one of the biggest losses for Bethesda.

This level is Bethesda who haven't written anything good for 20 years and then only because of one rogue employee who dropped LSD and had a vision of what good writing was.
They're definitely not known for being master writers, I agree. They're known for building simulation systems. Starfield had noticeably improved quest design though on multiple paths.

Make Boethiah the Daedric Prince a hot Futa.

I didn't like Starfield but I still have full trust in Bethesda as all their single Fallout and Elder Scrolls have been top tier.

I never get the argument that Bethesda have fallen because of Starfield and 76 not being great. That's like saying Resident Evil or the next big Mario is going to be bad just because Capcom and Nintendo made a bad new ip game.

So until Bethesda actually makes a bad SINGLE player Fallout or Elder Scrolls game which hasn't happen yet than Ill still have full trust with them.

Fallout 4 was actually greatly loved by the huge majority with an insane amount of mods and way better reception and concurrent player count than Starfield. So Bethesda haven't made a bad single player Fallout or Elder Scrolls yet.

But how does the hiring process look like here? I don't get it.
Hey, HR, look at these games I worked for. All of them bomBed and laughed at for the writing.

HR: HIRED !!
I don't think HR was really that involved. He sent in his application as a formality for the paperwork. I also got hired once for a position where I knew a guy inside the company (to be fair, he had a bit of leeway since he was a friend of the team lead) and the process was that we had an "interview" which was just a friendly chat about mundane stuff and I sent in my CV and shit just so they could put it in their system. I essentially got the job before I sent in my shit.

What do you mean they havent made a bad Fallout? Tf you talking about, 3 and 4 were both trash Fallouts. The only thing 'good' about them was the atmosphere and world building, both had godawful RPG mechanics, god awful main quests and worst offence of all absolutely ruined the setting since Bethesda has zero understanding of it hence we get 'Le WaaaCKyY WaaSsTeLaND' theme park 🤦‍♂️

Because they are part of a lobby (a cult, mostly). It works the same way with VA, fake-writers and other groups in the entertainment industry. That's why they keep falling upward.

This info is important to potential buyers, so they are warned before the media shills start gaslighting again.

Senior writer for the upcoming Ghost of Yotei as well.

Hmm.
He is the guy who wrote the scene where the unsufferable lead drinks milk and crème chantilly at the same time, and the one where she jumps on the table during an itw because the attention isn't centered on her for more than a minute.

Imagine seeing this and being like, that's what we should hire for our new lead in a franchise . . . . I'm gonna be holding my nose to play this one.

How can one person work on at least 3 games that BOMBED in part because of their writing still get work on this level?

Probably because the games bombed for reasons other than the writing. Anthem and Andromeda had a shitton of problems before we ever talk about the story. The stain of Veilguard is really what folks are focusing on and it is incredibly unfair, imo. I think we all know who was to blame for the Veilguard shitshow.....

So you're going to be playing a game that you're ragging on before release and that you're going to be quote 'holding my nose to play'. Why even buy it then 'assuming you're not lying'.

Lol I see a few Bethesda era Fallout haters like you from time to time. just because you and the very low vocal minority don't like it means nothing. When the huge vast majority likes Fallout 3 and 4 and consider them very fun and enjoyable with Fallout 3 being on a lot of people's favorite fallout list in polls only behind New Vegas. The ratings and reception are also great among 3 and 4 and they are nowhere on the level of bad reception that Starfield got. Fallout 4 have one of the highest mod counts and has way better reception and higher concurrent player than even the much newer Starfield game.

You're obvious free to dislike it but saying they are bad like it's a fact is completely wrong when it's the opposite and that is the vast majority consider them great.

I try to separate a mentally ill voice actor's personal life from the end product. Hopefully that thing did the same.

Fallout 4 is fun until all of the flaws start to reveal themselves and the terrible story leaves you feeling like nothing you did in the game matters. Fallout 4 had one of the worst stories imaginable and the search for your son fell flat on its face.

If it's purely story wise sure it may be that good in that department but as a game itself it's one of the best and most fun games out there where lots of people have put in over a thousand hours in.

Basically the ratings and especially player reception for Fallout 4 is very good and nowhere near the bad level of Starfield where not even mods can save it.
