They should offer voice acting DLC. You could think of it as the book on tape version.

Reading is something that is taken with great pride in Japan and dialog heavy RPGs are a part of that reading culture. You shouldn't expect voice acting in Dragon Quest.

You can read and listen to dialogue at the same time. They're not exclusive concepts.

Last DQ game I played had voice acting... and it's 2017 and on PS4 so I do have expectations of VO. Most people should.

I've watched the gameplay demo and it looks like automatic camera mode is basically like traditional turn based combat? But can you give direct commands to all party members (they only changed their tactics in the video)?

I wish I'd watched the 3DS trailer first, lol.

They both look great though, now we wait for the English language version. And wait, and wait!.....

It's pretty crazy they essentially made 3 versions of the game. I guess it future proofs them a bit for different remakes and ports, like mobile etc?

You sound like an expert.

That Double Pack is really interesting! Has there been any other times where games on competing hardware have been sold together in an official bundle?
I would have imagined Nintendo and Sony wouldn't like it, but I guess I'm wrong.

( . . . I-I-I may have already preordered it)

The only DQ in Japan with voice acting is the re-release of DQ8 on 3DS, and many were confused as to why and thought the money could be better spent then hiring voice actors.

Voice acting is a waste of money. If they want to add voice acting DLC where you choose to buy it though, that would be a fine compromise.

Kingdom Hearts Trinity Collection. Had the PS2 games + GBA Chain of Memories included. Was a nice set.

This DQXI set looks nice too. Tempted to pre order.

While the PS4 version looks like the way to go (and I'm surprised to say that since I was pretty down on the artstyle when they first revealed it), they really didn't cheap out on the 3DS one. It might be one of the best looking 3DS game.

I'll buy any version coming to the west anyway.

Turn base combat system :D

Is there any point in moving the character in combat with the other system?
I'm still left with questions on that. Is it just to walk around? The enemy didn't move or flinch at all in the demo when he walked behind him in combat, like what's the difference?

I read that DQX's movement in battle allows back attacks, running out of range of AOEs, etc. (feel free to correct me here), so hopefully DQXI might also have these aspects.

Yeah that's what I'm wondering. If it's indeed like that then playing as a turn based system with the 4 characters in a line is not ideal.

Hoping that it isn't the case here, rather have a combat system like DQVIII.

Yeah, it would appear free-movement would offer more advantages than auto-camera mode, but let's see once we get all the details.

If free movement is more than just a cosmetic thing then it will be very interesting to see if it'll be balanced accordingly. I also wonder if you change between battle modes on the fly?

Edit: Also I've finally figured out what other game the 3DS overworld reminds me of! Ni No Kuni.

They switched modes outside of combat in the stream. You most likely won't be able to switch them during combat.
