The only DQ in Japan with voice acting is the re-release of DQ8 on 3DS, and many were confused as to why and thought the money could be better spent then hiring voice actors.

Voice acting is a waste of money. If they want to add voice acting DLC where you choose to buy it though, that would be a fine compromise.
Maybe for Japan it is, but for the West lack of VA will be detrimental to sales.

The sales will be bad either way in the west -(
PS4 sales could be worthwhile with proper marketing as the game looks pretty good. We just saw 3 Japanese RPGs (and Zelda) sell well in the West this year and that's not counting FFXV.

PS4 version looks great, I'll get it (never finished a DQ game before).
I like the vibrant colors and all that it has going on, so looking forward to it.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
This reminds me how much higher Japanese prices are compared to ours. ~$81 and ~$54, ouch.

And Persona 5 seemed to go down well at least from provisional UK numbers/sell outs and that had zero marketing

EDIT: you were probably including P5 :D i should read it all.

But it looks great, after P5 i'd love a new JRPG to look forward to in 2018.

Hoping this gets released in the US sometime in 2017 is a fool's errand right?

Q1 2018 probably more realistic. Plus DQ isn't a big brand in the US. So probably not a good idea to release it in the Fall and let it be swallowed up by all the big first and third party games.

It starts with voice acting, but then the West will demand that they replace Sugiyama (yeah, politically he's a shitty dude, but most old people have shitty political views), and Toriyama has to go because DQ should use lifelike models, and who plays turn based RPGs (except for Japan) so the menu (which is the very cornerstone of DQ) has to go too.

My only possible gripe are the menus, they don't seem like they evolved

Oh no, it's already started...

Good Art™
I'd prefer to play that on Switch but the amazing art needs a PS4 to shine in its full glory i guess! Those monsters, daaaaamn

Both versions look great (all 3 interpretations), cool that they are producing the game this way. Would be really interesting to see other series do the same but i guess most developers don't have the resources and most games don't have the traditional roots that DQ has.

Yeah weird... I heard multiple devs that porting to Switch was super easy. And Square-Enix announced it even when Switch was called NX.
There's a big difference between porting those small games compared to AAA titles. Some of those games that were reported to be easy to port had serious performance issues upon release too. Those dev comments are useless.

Why does it feel like they won't localise this until the Switch version is released in Japan.

I just want to get it on PS4, just let me already. I'll buy a dumb slime controller and everything.

I know it's AAA vs Indie but it's the same engine. Didn't snake pass' devs say they had it up and running on Switch within weeks? I know that's a smaller Indie game but SE surely had dev kits very early and there teams are huge.

Either they're quiet on the Switch version because Nintendo wants to do the reveal themselves or SE is pulling their regular tomfoolery by looking for triple dippers.

I hope both versions come west. I'll gladly play it on PS4, but the 3DS version really strikes my fancy.

Shame about no Switch news. But even supposing Switch's specs and dev kit release dates raised no major development obstacles, it was a bit much to expect Nintendo could or would throw enough money at SE to upend their plans for one of their tentpole franchises.

Part of me wants this to release next year so I can finish all the Japanese games that are dropping this year.

Too many games!

Are you seriously asking who plays Turn Based RPGs in the West after P5 release? As far as the rest, gamers in the West don't know and don't care about Sugiyama, Toriyama and so on.

as long as they market it well it should actually sell pretty well in the west.

DQ8 sold rather well in the west, though part of that might have been the ff12 demo they included.

so lets see what could they include that possibly could really help move ps4 copies.

oh yeah didn't they announce a ff7 remake :p
could totally make the demo to that exclusive to a DQ11 ps4 english version and move plenty of copies that way.

No improvements allowed lol...

Just stay silent honestly people like you are always just whining about valid criticism and are also the ones staying usually silent about any kind of changes if they come from the devs themselves. Go fanboy somewhere else. Like god forbid DQ improving it's menu navigation, what a sin, because having shitty menus is somehow a cornerstone of Dragon Quest. Bad bad westerners!

People still read in Japan. Frankly I think voice acting takes away from the game.

Can't wait to get the 3DS version. Too. As there is no Switch 3DS double pack, would have bought that.

Also there is this invention we've had for years now. It's this option called "voice volume".

Oooh, maybe they'll include a KH3 demo in the west with the PS4 version.

What if Nintendo announces the switch version in the direct, then announce DQ XI is switch exclusive outside Japan.

That would be the worst thing ever. Really getting sick of the "Switch should get everything" posts.

Don't count on it. They're not going to sleep on the PS4/JRPG fan install base in the west. I could see them passing on the 3DS version in favor of Switch here though.

Yes it is.

Until it isn't. Like most improvement to the series most people that whine about criticism will just accept it as usual. Cause there is no substance behind their complaints beyond fanboyism.

But sure if a mainline DQ ever comes out where bad menu navigation has been fixed and 90% of the fanbase will boycott it because of that specifically I'll gift you any 60 dollar game you want.

HMV doesn't ship the double pack abroad. Have they changed their policies or is it specific to this pack?

I haven't seen it on SE's eshop yet but I assume they don't ship outside of Japan.

It's really crazy how they have essentially made three different games. PS4 version looks really nice, despite some suspect-looking close-up textures. :p

The 2D version looks kinda ugly though and clearly done on the cheap.
