Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past |OT| Roman numerals are hard

Is there anything in the game that uses the system os itself? If I'm playing on a card now do I lose anything if I just put the card in another 3DS and continue?

The 2nd round of Download Tablets are up (but the first round are still there as well for now).

You should be good as long as you grab any outstanding Streetpassses first and reactivate Streetpass after switching to the new system. I didn't notice anything about the 2nd / 3rd slot being on the SD Card and the Download Tablets seem to go to Adventure Log not ExData and there's no DLC.

Ugh, where is the lower right fragment to teleport into alltrade abbey? The menu is being worthless and telling me to go to the digsite, which I know isn't until much later in the game.

Yay, new residents. Every time I've used the share feature in the bar I've failed to get residents, says they weren't the owner of their shared tablet or whatever. Grrr.

Nope,
there is a shard at the digsite, which is definitely available since it's on the island of the roamers. I think the shard you need is down the well?

Edit: Damn, double post x.x my bad.

I have a problem with the very beginning if the game.
I know you're supposed to pick up a ring from Hero's uncle that falls from his pocket. I've been to the bar and watched him go home but when I go to his house and interact with him nothing happens.

Never mind.

Figured it out.

I have one question about the game and I want a very specific yes/no answer without any spoilers. I'm at the 33 hour mark and finished my 9th island.

so I just finished the Ygg tree island and am on to the next. I have a party of three with the hero, maribel, ruff. I've been rolling with a party of three ever since Keefer left. It's been about 13 hours of gameplay since that time; am I missing the ability to have a 4th party member? I don't want to know who I'm missing if I am or where that person is. Just a yes you are missing someone or a no you aren't.

Thanks!

Is the tombola in the Haven some sort of scam? I only get black "you lose" balls and 1 more try white balls which lead to more black balls. Didn't save to see if there are chances to get interesting things but I'm not trying anymore.

post wetlock question

I'm not sure where I'm supposed to go. Apparently I'm looking for a heat emitting ball, which as I gather is in the possession of Pike, who is on some sort of trip with a rich man - Bulgio or something. The fortune teller at the castle tells me I should look out for a huge tower. Well, I've discovered the tallest tower, but can't enter it. Am I not supposed yet to start what I think is the quest for a new party member (Melvius or something?) I've got a lot of tablets atm, but if I can get a new party member before tackling those I would like to do so.

Just find Pike.

He should be at the bar in Estard.

It will trigger your journey to find that man.

I can tell you where it ends :
l'arca

After that you'll be able to get what you have guessed.

Okay, I just got to the Alltrades Abbey Island. Couple questions -

1. Casino - should I bother spending time here first? Any tips on easiest ways to make coints? I gambled a little and got up to 150 so far

2. If I'm going fighter/healer with Hero/Maribel, any suggestions on a class for Gabo?

The next section can be pretty hard, so if you've got the patience, I'd do the memory game a couple of times. It can net you some pretty damn strong equipment.

Gabo should be a thief in priority.

Then Sailor and/or Sheperd.

Both his evolutions, Pirate and Monster Masher are broken OP once mastered. (one shot entire group of enemies for 0 MP, till the very last part of the game...)

that plotline is p bittersweet

For real
Get so used to the plots having a resolution, when they don't its pretty striking. Specially in that way 'welp folks, I'm dumb! I'm out!' fast forward: everything gone, lonely grave stones.

The Roamer's storyline was quite interesting and somewhat different from the others.

Wow, I forgot how much the game makes you work for those class changes. There's a lot of stuff leading up to Alltrades Abbey.
The arena
was a lot of fun, the Snooze Staff makes most of it a cakewalk.

Are hearts very rare drops? I'm farming heal slimes in a tablet dungeon and they won't drop after about 50fights.

That's why it makes sense. We barely even got the game. We are the forgotten fans.

Ugh, that doesn't sound promising. I love the dungeon crawling, but the overworld stuff starts to get grating after a while. The clunky traversal especially.

This game is really clicking with me. Just reached the robot continent and am having a blast so far. The smaller vignette stories are charming so far and in the back of my mind I am wondering the reason why the world was shattered into many tablets. Thematically I am reminded of Terranigma so that's always good. And now that I am in Haven I get to make a town which is something I LOVE in other games like Breath of Fire.

Some of the monsters look so good in 3D. The muddy hands and that giant red face you fight felt like they were going to jump out of my screen.

It really does feel like an abridged version of the game though. I don't mind particularly but lots of little events seem to be gone. Certainly makes for a more streamlined game though. I remember being miserable at times on PS1 when I missed a small bit of dialog from a certain and couldn't progress.

Wow, surprised to see a lot of people have trouble at Alltrades Abbey.
Maybe I just got lucky, but I made it through that whole episode without dieing once aside from the battles you aren't supposed to win. I just abused the salvation stone in conjuction to having a few medicinal herbs for emergency healing until I got my spells and abilities back. Arena was a little tough but thankfully I had a couple yggdrasil leaves that saved me.

I'm having a blast in the (late game part)
music festival: The guitarist names, all the booing. Fun part just after some serious stuff. OMG this queen is crazy, I heard something from some NPCs before but she really isn't as nice when things don't go as well.

So, something silly happened to me after finishing up Alltrades Abbey. There was another fragment left over in Pilgrim's Perdition and I was thinking: 'That's weird why would they make me go all the way back there?' As I backtracked through the Abbey basement and the Western Caves I began to think that maybe this was a way of the game getting me to level up my new vocations. Turns out the entrance to town opens up right outside the Abbey, all that backtracking for nothing, well not for nothing, I got some job levels out of it, still, I feel a little foolish.

Ruff is especially tuckered out after the round trip.

So I picked this up launch day (nintendo store download) despite not caring much for the PS1 version of the game and while I have some similar complaints (that opening 90 minutes is just a total slog) , once you get into the game proper it's a nice fun DQ adventure. Currently I'm only 3 hours in and I've basically prepped myself to go deal with the first real boss fight in the first islands monster tower.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but is each island basically supposed to feel almost like a character quest from DQ4 ? because this first area reminds me heavily of the Ragnar chapter from DQ4.

Been playing this slowly
just got the green gem
and this is the only DQ title I've never played so it's been a fun experience! The graphical slowdown is kind of annoying though

Care to go into details? I've played this game about 20 times and I'm still not sure what you're referring to. Unless you're talking about
the spirits
which is a fairly short thing all told.

A few questions if anyone can help:
1) When/how do I start being able to recruit monsters?
2) How do I recruit more monsters to Haven?
3) How do I get street pass set up?

I'm at the village near Faraday Castle.

I'm only about 30 hours in but I can see this becoming at least a top 10 JRPG for me. I'm seriously loving the amount of dialogue and how your party has something new to say after talking to a lot of the NPCs. The localisation must have been a huge undertaking.

I really like the idea of the game focusing on a bunch of smaller stories. There are a few hints of the bigger picture but I like how it isn't a focus.

I'm definitely more motivated to play the rest of the series now, I got a few hours into IV but got distracted. I've had IV, V, VI and IX for the DS for years and years now so I really need to get around to them.

Sorry if I'm being thick again, but what am I supposed to do in the desert dungeon?

there's that girl at the front entrance that heals me, every door inside is locked, there's apparently statues I need to activate in some fashion, the single stairway down leads to a small dungeon with a few NPCs but nothing seems to happen - there is some sort of stone hole I can fit something into, but I have idea what that could be

Put the seal of the sands in the tablet at the center of the room.

Put the item that the village elder gave you into the pedestal. You have to manually select it from your inventory.

Completely baffled at what to do next. The first island just appeared so I went over there and got a tablet from a cave there and one from the castle. I've been encouraged to go back to the temple. The fairy there said I have all the tablets I need to open up something new except.... I don't? I used two red and one green and I can't open anything up... this feels like a bug

Reposting this for the new morning.

I dunno is there a mistake here where they don't tell you where to go next in this one case or is this game going to be so vague in general that this is going to happen again and I should dig up an old DQ7 guide?

Open the menu and use the option that tells you where the next tablet is.

There's nothing vague about the game so far. I've found every tablet piece without ever using the hints.
