Dragon's Dogma Online revealed - PS3/PS4/PC, MMO-ish, F2P, 4-player parties

I've got such mixed feelings about this. If it's got the same combat engine, a similar feeling game world (I loved Gransys) and the business model is not exploitative then it could turn out okay. If it is more of the same but with lite-MMO/co-op functionality, then I will give Capcpom all my monies. All of them. But this is Capcpom after all, so I would not be surprised if they find some way to royally fuck it up.

Why's it just PS & PC though - did Sony help fund this too?

Guild Wars 2 isn't free to play. You pay once and that's it.

Yeah... For some reason I totally forgot that. Still, I prefer to wait and see how its gonna work. Just like Deep Down, I'm interested, but it all depends on how the f2p system gonna be implemented.

Dragon's Dogma with coop is all I wanted from a sequel but definitely keeping expectations at check.

Wonder what Itsuno's gonna be up to after he wraps up DMC4:SE.

This is Famitsu.... so it could come to Xbone in the west.

The mobile F2P market is quite different from other platforms and what this thread is continuing to show me is that people are quite badly informed of this and instead of understand and giving the benefit of the doubt the enthusist gamer finds it easier to say, "No thanks" rather than to be intelligent about the prospect.

I mean it doesn't bother me, I enjoy free to play games and have had a lot of good times with free to play games. I just wish the hardest of the core "gamerzzz" were more intelligent than this but I don't expect it anymore.

I've played console, mobile, browser and pc f2p. There is still no single bigger warning sign. And yes even games like warframe show clear signs of business model affecting gameplay-that is basically unavoidable.

Man, I hope I can still at least play it solo with an NPC party, otherwise I'll struggle to care, which is a shame as I loved Dragon's Dogma and would kill for a proper sequel.

Looks like we can finally hunt in packs!

The F2P doesn't scare me, Dragon's Dogma had micro transactions as well and it was still an amazing game.

Actually Dragons Dogma has always been F2P to me as i got it off PS+

Just PR to say it won't be called Dragon's Dogma online here, and that there will be an xbox version as well.

Probably not if no cross-play. Street Fighter V and Final Fantasy XIV ARR show that Japanese developers are not afraid to ignore Xbox for online focused games.

holy shit i forgot about this, but it totally did, didn't it?

fucking rift crystals lol

good thing people hired the hell out of my pawn so i never had to deal with that + bitterblack isle's nonsense

i wanted a proper mmo but this is as close as we can get in the current mmo market. i suspect it will keep the combat only in instanced zones and even then it will be 2 classes above even tera combat. again, not the kinda fries i ordered but these are good enough to eat, bring em on.

The game was still designed to be played by yourself. There's a huge disparity between having some online elements and having a game that is designed around social aspects and grouping together with other real players.

This may be the next logical step, but its a step plenty of us obviously didn't want them to take.
There is still pawn AI, which suggests you can choose to not play with other people, which also suggests the game isnt designed specifically around grouping with other real players. Hell you can probably still go out completely alone. Probably the only time you have to see other people is in town, and you can probably ignore them there as well.

Im not saying the next logical step was to turn the game into a game no longer designed to be played by yourself, just that expanded online features was the next step. And so far its soundimg pretty damn close to the original game, thats why i find it weird. We still have a lot more to learn about it.

I really loved dragon's dogma and wanted a sequel. This f2p model scares me a bit but I guess we have to wait and see. While we are speaking of capcom where the hell is deep down? They planned to release the beta for ps4 launch in japan which is almost a year ago..

Sounds interesting, hopefully the PS3 version doesn't hold the PS4 and PC versions back too much.

Cross play, probably.

Metalic Sand

who is Emo-Beas?
Are the people complaining about it being F2P ever play any recent F2P game? A lot of them are done extremely well like Warframe.

How is Capcom with their F2P model? There is a F2P Monster Hunter right how did they handle it there? Not really interested in what they do on mobile most companies have different strategies for F2P with regards mobile and consoles/PC.

Disappointed it's an F2P game and MMO orientated. Was just hoping for a next gen Dragons Dogma 2. At the very least I'll give it a try.

I don't know how I feel about this game.

It's fucking Dragon's Dogma, YEAAH!

But it's f2p.

Nice, it's on ps4.

But it's cross-gen.

Nice, pawns are in.

But it seems very multiplayer focused. :/

We should probably start thinking about how we can create the sluttiest pawns ever to make sure we get those free rift crystals.

Sorry Anita, but unfortunately, that's how it works :(

Ugh... Not like this.

You don't need to spend money in Warframe to get good shit.

You do though. Orokin reactors and catalysts are necessary to get your weapon and armor at more than half potential, and they only show up as in-game events once in a blue moon.

It's the same thing Capcom did when going from Lost Planet to Lost Planet 2. Made me lose all interest.

She was already the producer of Dark Arisen.
Not the same thing. Dragons dogma was designed around party play with (limited) online features from the very start. This seems like it is pretty much just replacing (or rather adding in the option of replacing) AI with real people, not suddenly adding in party members to a once single person experience.

don't forget to make them a child too because ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
