This week's Spontaneanation was pretty great, both the guest and improv segment. Thought the concept was a little hit and miss at first but it's hit a stride lately, find myself looking forward to it more than CBB on Monday's unless there's a killer lineup.

I've got a lot (a lot) of CBB to catch on this year.

Has Hot Soccermom adressed why he stopped using some of the recurring jokes? ( "sbeenawhile", "MAH WIFE" ...)

I don't think he ever addresses why he stops doing certain runners, he just stops doing them because they're outta gas. (the only one that I miss is Plane Break, and that's gone by necessity)

Because they get annoying, like heynongman did 15 minutes after it was created.

It got fucking old that same episode, yet they kept with it and even made shirts of that before HH got its first shirt. So dumb.

Anyways, I love how much people at Earwolf have been shitting on Earwolf/Howl lately.

They just get played out. The one I really want to find the orgin to is when Scott was unable to say "Comedy Bang Bang" and he could only say "Comedy Bing Bing." I feel like that went on for years. Probably because I hated it. Does anyone recall how that started? I assume it was a gypsy on the show who cursed him or a spell from a demon. The bit only wasted like 5 seconds per ep but I just wish I knew why it started.

Also, the Matt Gourley and Mark McConville one-off(?) where they pretend to be sports casters for the Lady Pistol Shrimps is a delight. It's got Gourley first of all but neither announcers seem to have any clue how basketball is even played so every call, play, and foul is announced but with a confused duo trying to understand why. It's a must because we all love Matt Gourley and the Lady Pistol Shrimps.

A bit behind on HHs and listening to the Brandon Content episode. This is the funniest episode in awhile. I'm suddenly a big fan of Joe Wengert.

I'm also a bit behind on Hollywood Handbook and just listened to the "We don't need Hayes show" and all I can say is wow. I can't believe Sean did over an hour of solo improv and it was somehow one of the best episodes ever. It's truly like a 1 man stage performance, with such a great story and overall ark, and the brilliant extended Jeff Dunham riff. It amazed me honestly, the ending was so legitimately warm as well, which is a change from HH which is mostly pretty cold and cynical. It was a GOAT episode IMO, which is crazy seeing as Hayes wasn't even in it! I love how Hollywood Handbook continues to surprise me every week even when they've pulled off their first hundo.

I'm pretty sure it just started out with a guest saying the name of the show wrong and slowly grew over the course of months until it came to a head where Scott actually made a bit to struggle actually say the name in an episode. It wasn't as intense as Heynong Man which is probably why it's hard to find the origin.

i4h's holiday special is superb.

Armen is so unsettling.

The Whiplash parody episode of i4h was amazing for the same reason. There were tons of real moments with Armen fucking up and Besser breaking.

You guys like chemicals so much you're like a bunch of Walter Whites in here.

Playing out bits far past their sell date is a time-honored CBB tradition.

It's the fanbase that runs the jokes into the ground more often then not, but that's just what happens on the internet I guess. I can't really talk though, there's some long running podcast bits that still make me crack up even when they're passed their sell-by date.

Is it weird that while I find CBB bits like Heynong man to be irritating, I still laugh every time Sean says "Nerds is cool now" on HH?

HH is incredible at running bits ad infinitum without actually playing them out. Just ask my new speak on that t-shirt

I DON'T THINK SO

Yeah, there's a lot of bits that I feel should have gotten played out by now but are still funny. I think it's the earnestness that they say them with. When Scott says Heynong man it's like "remember this funny thing that happened?" While when Hayes says "Speak on that" it actually makes sense when it's used and often leads to funny material. The bits that they run with are funny most of the time even if you hadn't heard their origin.

That and their delivery is just so good. Sean and Hayes "and isn't THAT interesting?" whenever they make a point always makes me laugh.

YES.

They can even make me laugh when they go "Hm!" or "Ah!" or "Oh! Uh huh!"

I loved that first live episode where the guest was like "How is this not on video, everything funny about this is how you look" and god I want to see this live someday.

EDIT:
Or the runner of Hayes trying to talk Sean down from politics ("SEAN! SEAN! SEAN! SEAN!")
Or the runner of Hayes' laugh

That was Pete Holmes I believe. That ep made me really want to see like a video podcast of the show like they used to do for CBB and I4H now and again. That's something that would make me sub to Howl. I wanna see what sort of facial expression Sean makes when doing Earwolfman Jack!

Edit: and speaking of runners, Sean's anti-religion atheism rants are the best!

Their podfest live show was recorded on video and it is absolutely hilarious. Watching Sean's facial expressions and Hayes's reactions to his jokes makes the show even better somehow.

Is that available for free or locked behind the podfest paywall?

I think Lapkus has become a little one-note for me. I mean, it's hard to punch at the weight of the comedians in that room. But she's just not able to keep up with them.

Conversely, Gabrus had literally never disappointed. I wish he had his own podcast.

no way, Lapkus was great. and only made greater by PFT being unable to contain how amused he was at Ho Ho

They all killed it, loved the episode.

Hm I like the sound of a Gabrus podcast despite the kinda tired general interview format. Definitely gonna check that out

bummer about HH when they're popping up on year end lists and new people might be considering checking them out. Maybe they should do another best-of

critical darlings but they just aren't getting the listeners they deserve. tell your friends, people. i don't think they'll be around much longer if they don't get popular :(

Happy to hear Scott talk about Hollywood handbook doing well on the best of. Sounds like that podcast is here for the foreseeable future

I definitely needed to listen to the new HH three times over just to follow the story. Hope they were joking about no show next week. Why do they have the weirdest releases the weeks after they get a lot of promo? XD

Dude, I had the exact opposite reaction, Lapkus killed me and Gabrus left me underwhelmed

"I'm late!" "For what?" "To tell ya to fuck off!"
