I had only been listening to the CBB Tour so far on my Howl trial, but the paywall announcement made me realize Howl Premium only meant ad-free for old shows, not recent ones. I haven't heard any of the other originals, but ad-free Earwolf was THE thing I was excited for. Not sure yet if I'll subscribe now.

I was just hoping the paywall was being scrapped since it wasn't in ad-copy for Howl lately, but paywall AND still having ads on current episodes is a bad value proposition.

Yeah, the fact there's still ads on current episodes with Premium is freaking insane

I was really hoping that they changed their stance on this whole Howl thing. I mean, I'm not entirely against it but there are parts of it that just make me raise an eyebrow.

I will always hate the archived episodes nonsense

But what about Vic Verbatim
I love when the podcasts do creative ads (we do and have done them on shows I work on), but the Earwolf shows I love do the longest ad reads and it kills me. Remember that 5 minute Howl ad HH ran multiple times? And when a show has multiple ads back to back, it's real rough.

I will say, I started listening to Reality Show Show and I am really driving the tanks for that!

Im a huge fan of Devin Faraci and Amy Nicholsons the Canon. Picked up listening to the podcast last year and its so much fun to hear to hyperbolic critics in a room yelling at each other over movies.

I listened to the Goodfellas episode and I couldn't get past Devin basically shouting down Amy and telling her she was wrong constantly without listening to or responding to her criticism. Yes, she has an unpopular viewpoint on the film but the whole point of the show is that they're supposed to be debating the film, not that he's just supposed to blanket disagree. Left a bad taste in my mouth so I didn't bother going forward with it.

The later CBB Tour episodes seem a bit rough. Hard to blame them too much, the travel schedule always looked too intense in some stretches, but I couldn't get 20 minutes into the Colorado episode. Should prob spread them out a little bit more next time so they have some juice left, Scripps can splurge for another travel day or two.

This Mel Brooks interview is amazing. It's always nice to just hear him talk.

Would anyone challege that the statemet the CBB episode "Todd Is Too High with Rogue Wave" with the band and Haley Joel Osment was the worst episode ever? Osment was fine but Scott was bizarrely deferential to the boring, pointless, and dead air moments of the band. It was like he was so in love with them he didn't realize what shit podcasting it made for. Normally when a guest goes on, and on, and on about absolutely nothing he will make a joke of how boring it is or how it's dead air. But for this he just nodding and say "yeah," "uh,huh" and letting them talk.

It wasn't a great episode, but I don't know if it was the absolute worst. Osment and Lapkus alone made it worthwhile. Maybe it's just me, but Scott seems to be a little more antogonistic recently. He's probably just over-worked to insane levels.

Weird, I thought that episode was fine. Bands aren't always personable, but I remember them holding up okay. Plus, an episode with Todd can't be The Worst. For me, the worst episodes have been the solo guest episodes (minus the Solo Bolos). In-depth interviews like those aren't my jam.

I didn't even think Todd was that good and I love her. I mean him! Him.

I guess that's why I asked. I hated that episode and wondered if it was just me with a tummy ache or if it was actually bad.

Funny enough, I'm listening to them on the CBB Live and Scott is pretty quick to get short with their slow pace.

The Goodfellas episode generally gets people off on the wrong foot. I would recommend starting off with the Mad Max 2 vs Fury Road episode where its a much more reasoned discussion.

The podcast as a whole eventually develops into a fun battle of wits every week between Devin and Nicholson with each host throwing sly digs at the others taste in movies. It gets much more fun than the Goodfellas episode.

When I think worst cbb ep my mind immediately goes to the Tom Green one from last year. I'd like to never hear the word webovision again for the rest of my life.

The episode with Seth Morris and Ed Helms was real bad. It was one of those episodes Scott was like "we didn't put this out when we first recorded it because it's terrible, but here you go now".

To me the absolute worst is probably "Impression Off" with Chris Hardwick and Matt Braunger. I generally like Hardwick, and he's been good on the show before, but Braunger is perhaps the worst comedian I can think of. It's impressive how many clunkers he can deliver yet still have a thriving career.

Man, those CBB guys must be exhausted. Flying all over the country nearly every day and the having to deliver an energetic podcast every day. It's gotta be brutal.

Fantastical

Death Prophet
Have you noticed Lauren is featured less and less in the later half of the CBB Tour? Paul and her were alternating who comes out first and then it's Paul first almost every episode. Lauren's character actually leaves before the show is over in one episode.

Lol yeah he's pretty bad. He personifies the shit dork comedy of nerdist.

Started listening to OMFG. Deanna and June are essentially the same person. Actually Deanna reminds me of mostly June with some Jessica St. Clair in there.

Deanna is a friend of mine, I mentioned it here before but I was on an episode a year ago which was pretty fun. She also came on one of my shows recently. Her stuff is pretty great. Their voices are definitely similar sounding though.

On Snapchat, PFT said Lauren had an audition to go to, so I'm guessing that's why she left that episode.

I've been listening to regular CBB and HH on my usual podcast app, so I haven't noticed this, but certainly all Howl-exclusive content is ad-free. And there is a LOT of great Howl-exclusive content (now). It's definitely worth $4 a month if you appreciate all the free Earwolf content you've enjoyed.

Sad to see the tour end, I thought it was great. Certainly some rough eps near the end, and I missed Neil Campbell, but I had a blast with a new ep every night. Lauren and PFT are gods. Pamela from Big Bear 4 lyfe, BITCH! Suck mah clit!

Also, keeping up with all their in-jokes and empathizing with their tour schedule made episodes all the more enjoyable. I LOVE IT! Perfect close.

I'm watching The Avengers for HDTGM and holy shit is this movie annoying. It's like Kingsmen Hudson Hawk but all the action is replaced by smarmy dialogue.

I already miss the tour so I've been relistening to some of the best episodes. This tour solidifies my respect and adoration for Lapkus and PFT. They are just brilliant together and they have been a delight, even at their weariest. Lapkus was particularly on-point, Big Sue and Pamela are some of her best characters yet (despite being basically the same voice, lol). Oh god, and Whitney Peeps!

Neil Campbell was also amazing. As much as I enjoy Mike Hanford's half-assed goofing I was sad that Neil had to drop out halfway.

Has anyone seen Lauren's episode of The Characters on Netflix? The Pamela sequence is incredible.

The interview with Mel Brooks was awesome. What a living legend.

Also just now put it together that the Blake Harris who works with HDTGM is the same Blake Harris who wrote Moneyball and Console Wars. I like his work a lot.

Oh really? I didnt read Moneyball but I listened to the audiobook of Console Wars and while the story itself is interesting I thought the writing itself was pretty terrible...

It has some added silliness when it comes to characters talking to each other, but the narration flow was really solid. I can't imagine the real Tom Kaliniske saying a lot of some of thing he says in the book, but Console Wars isn't claiming to be word for word adaptation of the actual events. It was a fun read for a subject matter that would otherwise be more boring, and has been told less entusiasticly by other less successful books

Moneyball is written by Michael Lewis, who also wrote The Big Short, The Blind Side, Liar's Poker, Flash Boys, etc. Very different guy.

YOU. GUYS.

HH LIVE.

It was a very strange and beautiful one off thing. They had a guy from one of those podcast networks as a guest and they spent the whole show trying to figure out how to get to the top of the podcast charts. (We watched them learn they are currently 156. In Comedy.)

I used to be such a Sean Stan but that one dude one time was so right, half the fun is watching these dudes and Hayes, in person, is a fucking juggernaut.

They ended up in a Casper bed together. It was glorious.
Was this just a week or two ago? The iTunes rankings are quite different now.

New Hollywood Handbook is great. Their live shows always are. Them trying to categorize the podcast as spirituality was so funny, Sean's atheist rants always crack me up.

Hey, just got caught up with Adventure Time, did anyone else watching that show catch Lauren Lapkus voicing the Ice Elemental in the ep two weeks go? She was great! That's
going to be a reoccurring role
too!

I love how AT is getting all the best comedy voices for these supporting roles. The IMDB is insane, a comedy-nerd's dream.

The latest episode of Beautiful Anonymous is wild. Gethard talks to someone who was (unknowingly) married to a child molester for 10 years. It's a pretty crazy listen.
