That's just cause you don't get along with other fans. It's like how annoyed I felt about this guy during the Sony E3 theater experience yelling out every character's name during the montage. The dude annoyed me so much I wanted to leave. It's probably half the reason I never joined any clubs here locally. Sometimes it's cool to know other fans and sometimes it's just a bad experience. I wouldn't let that drive you away from a game.

There are some super fans that just want to make sure you're aware that they're a super fan. I think this exists in all mediums. It's probably a huge turn off for some newcomers and your average fans out there.

There's people that will buy the game on a whim and fall in love with it and then there's people who are writing down their builds before the game even comes out. I think you have to find the right balance and not focus on what someone else is doing. From Software knows the beginning and the end of this game. Someone who works at that studio already knows what we are going to try and obtain from playing the game. Just look at video game journalist who are going to get their copy soon. If we focus on that, we are rarely the first person to enjoy the game and someone always beats you to it. No sense focusing on that.
I get superfans. I was one for final fantasy for awhile. Had wallscrolls, shirts, and figurines of final fantasy characters. I just find the fan community for souls to be a bit too tribal for my taste. You either are with them or your against them. I mean the last line of the OP was " And if you don't care about this at all... Dude why?" Like is it that weird for someone to not be hyped for this game.
Youre Crazy Omar Epps GIF
He isn't completely wrong. It looks like a remastered ps3 game. At least they aren't as bad as gamefreak.

25th Feb genuinely my birthday if you all want to have a whip round and buy it for me on PS5 that would be great 😉👍🏻😂

Mad hype, can't wait.

Does it release earlier in Japan? When DS3 came out early in Japan, I remember buying it 3 weeks before the US release on the Japanese Xbox store.
It was kinda a pain, you had to purchase a Japanese Xbox card to buy it with Japanese Microsoft points, but it was well worth it.
My first truly "blind" Souls experience. There were no messages, no summons, no nothin, figure it out as you go. I think the only help I got was a thread on here where a few others were playing via the exploit.

DS1 remastered is a remastered PS3 game. This doesn't look like DS 1.
At first I thought you wast talking about demon souls but realized it doesn't have a one in front of it and OMG, your right. Just saw the gameplay footage of DS1 remastered. My memory of ps3 games seem to have them looking better than they did. I did a quick comparison of ff13 and the open world area looked much worse than elden ring but the starting area does look better but with less resolutions. I blame the uncharted remaster and generally most ps4 games looking so good for clouding my judgement.

I've been getting that a lot lately for some reason. It took me forever to finally watch demon slayers because all the hype just killed my desire to watch it.

It isn't that crazy. Toxic or over eager fan communities can drive folks away from things they would normally enjoy

Hype Aversion

Recommendations are strange things. If one person thinks you'd like something, you'll probably rush and check it out. Even if they're wrong, it can't be that bad, right?
Why is it that when twenty people say you'd like something, you'll just keep putting it off more and more?
This is what we call Hype Aversion: the specific avoidance of a work mainly because of how much you're told you'll like it.
There's a number of reasons for why this happens: Maybe it's a genre you're not so keen on. Maybe you're afraid that it's popular because it appeals to the Lowest Common Denominator. Maybe you're afraid that you won't enjoy it, and will have to deal with the fact that people you thought you knew don't really share your tastes, or that you felt lied to because they thought you would like it. Maybe you dismiss the recommendation because it came from an individual or group you personally distrust. Maybe it's how, as more people and the Hollywood Hype Machine recommend something, the probability of meeting someone disconcertingly obsessed with it approaches one. Maybe the fandom in general has a certain level of squick to it that makes you a little uncomfortable. Maybe you just are sick of hearing about it because you accepted it wasn't your cup of tea in the first place, but it's very hard to ignore it because you keep hearing it everywhere.
It could be that you start out putting it off for later, but as more and more people bug you about it, you reject reading/watching/whatevering it multiple times and develop a habit of it. Maybe it's become a strange sort of anti-establishment pride that you refuse to check out something so many have liked. Bonus points if they express shock at how you've not seen it and peer-pressure you so much that you feel your independent thinking is getting seriously threatened. Maybe you're afraid that you'll like it too much, thus losing interest in what you previously enjoyed more. Maybe you feel you're not worthy. Maybe you're just that stubborn. It could also be because of this little thing called Reverse Psychology...
In any case, you might realize that yep, it's as great as everyone says... or at least not so bad that you'd be offended that people thought you would like it. On the other hand, you might end up a little let down — given all the hype, shouldn't Final Fantasy VII, Watchmen, Fate/stay night, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Baldur's Gate really be able to cure cancer, impotence or chronic bedwetting, give a determined, suicidal-averting reason to go on living, and guarantee one an automatic gate pass for Heaven?
Anything billed as the next incarnation of a popular work will get this.
Can lead to blind bashing if the aversion goes far enough. Of course, if one is able to get over such aversion, it can result in I Do Not Like Green Eggs and Ham.
Contrast Hype Backlash, where the hype doesn't prevent you from watching, but taints your reaction when you do. See Bile Fascination for the exact opposite of this trope. Related to the Hollywood Hype Machine, which starts the ball rolling for more mainstream successful ones.

is multiplayer going to be as cryptic as the previous titles? not that I really mind, but I've put 40 hours into DS3 and I still have no real idea how it works (although I am playing it blind, I'll eventually look it up online)

I wouldn't recommend hype aversion, 'hype' is a positive feeling, so enjoy it. Just as longing towards you coming holiday is a big part of the overall package of enjoyment the holiday brings.

I never understood the whole "hype aversion" thing

Couldn't imagine letting some random people have such an effect on me to the point where it influences what media I choose to consume

spoilers are out already due to all the data mining that happened after the last ps4 firmware hack. I'm on blackout with keyword blockers and it works
Didn't know about that... Time to learn about those keyword blockers. Thanks for the heads up!

I bought tickets to see the Final Fantasy VII Remake concert that night. I booked it before they delayed the game last year. I didn't even realize it. I know I'll be thinking about Elden Ring during the whole thing.

The character progression looks solid in this game. I'm really excited to explore Elden Ring. Also it's very nice that it is 79.99$CAN instead of the regular 89.99$.

I'm going to wait for reviews and maybe a couple patches, since I've got Forbidden West to engross myself into.

But hoping it turns out better than their past games.

I mean in all seriousness, I suspect all previous Dark Souls fans will thoroughly enjoy it from what I've seen so far. What I'm curious about is:

1) will the open-world aspect truely feel open or just be a maze with options A, B, and C

2) if the new game style will draw in new players to souls games and/or make older fans hesitant?

too much

0 hype. It only leads to disappointment. Also it looks like every From game, only open world.
Still gonna play it, though. From games are solid, and it's been a while.

That Elden Ring will be one of 2022's biggest games isn't exactly a controversial statement. In fact, it's so much of a given that it verges on being a non-statement.

Why it will be one of the biggest games of the year is a much more interesting question though. There are a great deal of obvious reasons for that, of course, but there's also a couple that are specific to this game, and this game only.

This very interesting change to flow of the combat and makes me even more excited for Elden Ring.

I'm guessing most people who played network test already know this.

Well, one thing that seems different from usual From games is all the different abilities at your disposal.

One of few games I will buy at launch.
I recently finished all the existing Soulsborne games (largely playing them backwards too: DeS(PS3) --> DS3 --> BB --> DS2 --> Sek --> DS1). I'm ready for more.

Elden Ring is coming out soon and it has a number of big differences between Fromsoftwars other titles. Karak discusses and analysis the reasons why Elden Ring is different and also why it may be #1 in 2022

wasn't considering the game but lately the idea of a big fantasy open world to explore has become more and more enticing

still, don't think i'm up to the challenge of the souls game though

I seriously didn't have any hype for Elden ring when it first was announced, not even after the first gameplay video. That has changed in the last week, now it's a day one release for me. Love the atmosphere in From software games. More than the combat system. I think they are masters att creating a feeling of being alone and a melancholy ambience. So very hyped now.

Don't really have any hype at all towards this game which is great because if it's bad I won't be disappointed.

No issues waiting for reviews

After DS3 and Sekiro I always buy FromSoft games day1. Elden Ring is gonna be absolutely massive in terms of sales and once the perfect 10s start rolling out there will be no going back.

eh dark souls 3 and sekiro didnt have the magic of demon/dark souls.
plus the engine's pretty ancient by now; might struggle with an open world.
gotta give it a try though.

PS dont preorder anything people, good god. and anything called "collector's edition" is not worth collecting.

I pre-ordered it as I'm sure it will be enjoyable. But the dark souls formula feels stale. I don't think adding an open world will shake it.
