Elden Ring Nightreign |OT| Praise the Rain

Holy shit, just beat the Night Lord and as a ranged duo no less:

At some point during day 2 our 3rd man (Guardian) left the game, maybe his wife came home and found him jerking off to the witch. Anyway, that left the night 2 boss and Night Lord to the pair of us. The gods must have been smiling in my favour this run because I found not one but TWO revive stones, used up both during the fight, that was intense!

Is it me or is this running awful even on ps5 pro using the ps4 version?
Looks blurry sometimes and definitely doesn't hold 60fps.
It feels weird coming from Elden Ring, which runs great using the ps4 version.

Does this game finally overcome the japanese games being terrible at anything online or co-op?

as much as I love my JRPGs or games from the east they always shit the bed with accessibility and ease of access when it comes to co-op or online.

Is it a simple drop-in, drop-out? or do i need a code from a website that i have to input on a special item in game that can only be done at a social hub using a 20 long list of button inputs :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The hit to revive mechanic needs a bit of tweaking I think. It's pretty hard to do with most weapons. At least let use target lock somehow.

Loving these character quests and I actually *want* to know their individual stories. These are perfect for solo play too and fit the meta narrative. Important to know you don't have to clear the run to progress the quest. Example: I just did Wylder's rememberance which tasks him with finding a whetstone. Found it in the mines, failed at the boss, still granted the whetstone at the rewards screen allowing me to progress the quest, good times.

Done four runs, very fast paced and chaotic but much more fun than I figured with randos. Performance is super choppy on PS5 Pro.

I have not managed to clear Day 2 even once, is clearing Day 3 the only way to progress? Absolutely no idea how I can ever do that :D

Game is pretty much unplayable for me on PC. My rig is sleeping during this game, barely any cpu or gpu usage, but its a constant stutterfest. Im talking about stutters every second. Especially in a nightlord fight. Fps constantly fluctates between 48 and 60 and sutters every second. Im on a 5070ti. Latest driver etc. Im about to drop this shit and wait for a potential fix that will never come.

I'm running a 4070S and this game is running at 4K60 with no stutters at all. There has to be something wrong with your drivers. Maybe try uninstalling them and then reinstalling?

My 6700xt keeps things almost locked at 1440p/60. I will say that maybe once or twice per run I get a quick but noticable hiccup stutter. Pretty good for the most part though. Unfortunately I have seen people posting some problems with the 5000 series cards with this game for some reason.

as the devs states, players with the latest videocards might encounter issues, looks like he's one of the unlucky ones.

Can't wait to add this to my From Soft collection

How much do you like being abused in games?

Kotaro: Yes.

Its probably the dogshit 5000 series. From also said there are issues on latest cards. Its so annoying. I keep fighting bosses with half second freezes and stutters every second

Now that this has been out for a few days, how do people feel about solo play?

Is it doable or is it trash?
Based on what I have played coop, I can't imagine doing solo would be that fun, even if they fixed the balance.

A big part of the appeal - and difference to Elden Ring - is the speed, chaos and communication.

Seeing where others go. Keeping up. Setting waypoints. Deciding when to fall behind to equip and improve gear. Helping and getting help. Splitting enemy packs. Punishing a boss together.

I am saying this as a guy who really doesn't enjoy coop normally. Here it's sublime.

Really enjoying the game so far.

Man randos are something else.
Kept having to res them during the first day boss, thanks to the bow I managed to clutch it out (bows are insanely good for reviving), we beat the boss.
So day two I mark the last estus, especially since it's at the edge of the map, so let's get it now before the ring closes, nah this dude wants to fight the dragon that spawned nearby...alright, he promptly dies, and we die as well trying to save him...
Now I just beeline to the estus, while they start mucking about somewhere else.

Get the estus, ring starts closing, I take out a camp and mark the boss drop, they ignore it and head for the castle in the middle; of course they die again...
Now the ring closes again so I just run to the final area and wait, guy finally catches up and starts attacking me as if I caused him to die repeatedly lmao 🤣
Second day boss spawns and they wipe again, now instantly 3 bars because they just kept dying beforehand. Tried the bow strat again but margit really doesn't give you any chance to res 3 bars like that; 1 or two I could've managed but alas 🤷‍♂️

Feel like I need to unlock revenant quickly so I can just be the medic for these awful players.

Doable*

* = with research before trying it.

Here's a very helpful video for those trying to solo, but it does contain some gameplay spoilers you would potentially find by self-discovery and reading item descriptions.

Edit: Also there are preferred solo classes over others. Ironeye (The bow guy) is one of them and Executor is another if you want to Sekiro parry without having to worry about a boss suddenly focusing on a teammate and messing you up.

I still think the daytime could be longer. Pacing is still kinda ADHD level. Also why they lock the bosses and minibosses to nightlords? Just randomize the whole shit from, your game already have so little random elements. As i said before, this game is a few tweaks and additions away from being great, hopefully it will be improved in the future.

I think for multiplayer the pacing they have is probably fine but for single player they should definitely double the time limit. When you know what to do and where to get stuff you'll just farm the same spots and then half the map goes unused.

I do think there should be some buildup with the minibosses between days. Difficulty can easily go 0 to 100 or bad rng can sour a whole run and you just hope you get a decent relic for your trouble.

If it were me I'd tailor a single player experience where you clear everything out and fight the last boss whenever you are ready.

The game is enjoyable but there is a lot of micromanagement and a lot of stuff to get done in 5-8 minutes.

Single or multi it feels like this...

Yeah, this game definitely has some of that signature Fromsoft community discovery to it. For those of you who want the joy of incidentally discovering these things on your own, gameplay spoiler warning ahead:

Played it for a bit, but not sure if its a game for me. I dont even get what progress i get when i start from nothing every round.

Game needs a few hours to click imo. You get relics and when you do the character quests, you get character specific ones that are really good

Going to have to watch some guides.

Just got carried in to heaven by my team mates but lost to three head fire dog.

Just feel very ineffective power wise against bosses and also redeeming team mates is taking me ages.

This is my main issue with it from the couple hours I've played, you feel like a damn junkie while playing, running around trying to do as much as you can in 10 mins. This isn't "Souls" for me.

I don't mind the circle coming in but the time should be doubled to give players some time to breathe and explore not feel like this each run:

It feels like it's made for the adhd tik tok generation that forget to even breathe if they don't get their adrenaline fix every 5 seconds.

You need to start the expedition with the party. No drop-in/drop-out mid round, I don't think. If someone drops during your session...they're gone and not replaced.

It has no in-game voice chat (for a game that rewards and arguably necessitates player communication).

But partying up with my friends on PS5 was simple enough: sent an invite and they could accept via their PS overlay. There's an alternate party-up method using passwords. I actually don't know what the use case is for it.

The crazy thing is that those 10 minutes are actually 15-20 each, because most full 3 day runs take upwards of 40-50 minutes.

Making this any longer would make the runs be a huger commitment of time than it already is.

I think a possible solution for those who want to take their time could be a 2-day mode so that more time is added for day 1.

Yeah, that would be a good compromise imo.

I've only been playing Solo and made it to Day 2 and then I got slapped with Fell Omen/Margit as the Night 2 boss. I uh lost because a Mage fighting 9 string combo He-Man is a stress test.

I think multiplayer they could keep the ADHD mode but just slow down in Solo.

This is actually a perfect description of the game, and why I enjoy it - I have ADHD :D

It's a completely different proposition than Elden Ring where you leisurely stroll around and explore every nook and cranny, obsess on every minutia of a single boss dozens of times until you get the choreography perfect. Compared to that, Nightreign is like Elden Ring on coke.

There are some really bad players though, the last couple of games I haven't even been able to get to day 2 boss because people just run head first into death, or they leave because they died a couple times..
Last game was a duchess and a revenant, so I assumed they knew what they were doing, jokes on me I guess because they were awful, the revenant left half way day 2 after I had to revive them a couple times, then later the duchess left for some reason.

And then the boss was margit, while it spawned super close to the stronghold in the center, so now I had to deal with margit and one of those giants throwing fire pots as well...I promptly died of course.

I've had quite a few games end immediately because I'm following someone that appears to know what they're doing but then they just everything lmao.
