That's why you don't pay attention to the "Greg Millers" and more so the smaller ones that you may appreciate more. If you do, the reception is very much the same. It's a huge game and release, this reaction from outlets and journalists is standard.

Every source on Metacritic/Opencritic is pressured by the same forces that incentivize high scores.
All 99 critics on Opencritic benefit from having early access to Elden Ring as it draws traffic to their site. Essentially they're all Greg Millers.
There are waaaaay more than 99 people who wanted early access to Elden Ring. From Software selected the reviewers who they believed would benefit them the most.
That's why all gaming media has essentially become enthusiast media. The outlets who are more critical of games get cockblocked by these big publishers. "Praise me or be shunned."
Opencritic/Metacritic should allow the public to set parameters to reviews that only get sent a month or two after release. When critics are forced to buy their own games, and don't benefit from early access, it would give the public more balanced scores.
