Platforms: PC/360/PS3

Release dates:
Europe: October 4th
Australia: October 4th
North and South America: October 8th

As a yearly title, F1 2013 has what you would expect; all the features from the last game, a new coat of paint, and a few additions. Cars and drivers are updated, so you’ll find Lewis Hamilton in a pretty competitive Mercedes and Sergio Perez in a useless McLaren, and of course, you can fulfill your lifelong dream of being Max Chilton.
There are also some refinements to the handling, AI and online modes, but the biggest new feature is classic content, where you can take old favorites out for a spin on both old and new tracks, in Grand Prix, multiplayer and Time Trial modes. The classic content is split in two: content from the 80s, which is included in all versions of F1 2013, and 90s content, which is included in the limited Classic Edition of the game, or available as DLC.
The 80s and 90s packs include two tracks each, and five and six cars, respectively. Each car has two drivers to choose from, with a mix of drivers who actually raced the car as well as team legends. Below is a list of the available cars, drivers and tracks:

1980s:
Cars and Drivers

1980 Williams FW07B – Alan Jones and Alain Prost
1986 Lotus 98T – Mario Andretti and Emerson Fittipaldi
1988 Ferrari F1-87/88C – Gerhard Berger and Michael Schumacher
1988 Lotus 100T – Satoru Nakajima and Mika Häkkinen
1988 Williams FW12 – Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill
Tracks
Jerez and Brands Hatch

1990s content:
Cars and Drivers

1992 Ferrari F92 A – Jean Alesi and TBA
1992 Williams FW14B – Nigel Mansell and David Coulthard
1996 Ferrari F310 – Michael Schumacher and Gerhard Berger
1996 Williams FW18 - Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve
1999 Ferrari F399 – Eddie Motherfucking Irvine and Jody Scheckter
1999 Williams FW21 – Ralf Schumacher? (TBA) and Alain Prost

Turd series. Glad for mid-race saving so when I turn it off mid-race while saying the game is shit, I can resume that race when I inevitably come back.

Day 3.

Haven't played an F1 game since the PS3 one back when the system launched and I'm a bit confused. F1(as in the series the OT relates to) seems to get generally pretty stellar reviews yet here on Gaf you have a vast number of posts saying the series is awful. Is it a Yukes esqe WWE scenario? Or is it just a running gag?

...errr kinda.

It's stuck in some horrible arcade/simulation middle-ground as they're trying to appeal to as many people as possible, when really all the people who give a fuck (namely us) want a proper F1 game with all the bells and whistles. It's perfectly satisfactory, hell you could even say good, but it's still disappointing.

I loved F1 97 and 98 never bought one since. Has always annoyed me that it is so late in the season when they realise it. A May/June release would be much better.

I'd actually much prefer a March/April release with free content updates (car performance, any changes etc).

That release date would be best, but not even Fifa launches at the start of the season.

If it was march then I would defo buy it just so I could run every race before the live event. Win it with ferrari before seeing Vettel win in the live race ;(

Awwww yiss.

We should do a GAF league! The first three were great and maybe having it on here (*cough) will attract people! :p

I'll buy this, play it for an hour at most, complain on forums then never touch it again.

A typical F1 release then

Fantastic OP!

What was wrong with F1 2012?
Try playing the PC version without the 12 patches that were released and you'll see why 8) After you've done that, play the game with the patches in place and have fun counting the remaining issues that 'Codemasters' couldn't be bothered to fix. What should have been a decent and fun racing game turned to shit for many, especially people interested in multiplayer as already noted.

If you are a PC gamer, the ONLY reason to buy this years version will be for the incredible amount of mods that will be released (based on the number of mods for F1 2012). Instead of wasting money on CM's lackluster F1 series, buy Game Stock Car 2013 and enjoy the various F1 cars from the 1970's, 80's and modern eras that Reiza have recreated in a true racing simulation.

Broken multiplayer, horrible to drive with fake braking, horrendous understeer, poor steering wheel support.

It ruined our amazing F1 2011 community.

HE LIVES!
I probably won't be able to do a full league, but I'd love to get together for a few races around launch, if multiplayer sort of works.

I'm up for some multiplayer and I'm sure the classic content will files some holes due to the rather static F1 rules and tracklist.

Next year is bound to be a lot more interesting but I'm sure F1 2013 should at least be a laugh for a while and seems to be fairly cheap for a lot of retailers.

I read that the braking has come much further but this may also mean that the steering as got worse its always a fine line of fixing everything for every type of driver. Another bonus is mid-race saves which should make racing full racers less of a time challenge :D

The last game I bought in this series was 2011... Codemasters isn't going to get my money until they can release an F1 game that doesn't require xx number of patches within the first month of release.

Doesn't look anything special.

Was going to give it a miss as I bought the last 3 games at all launch but just went for it in the end as Argos has a misprice or something so got it for £26.99. Not expecting much though.

I actually did buy the PC version of 2012 (as well as 2011 and the 360 version of 2010).

I want to not buy these games but.........I love Formula 1 :'(

Might buy. Will only use Vettel. Fuck Webber.

First tragedy, then farce.
Day 1.

The game is what it is. I think it's a fine game.

Its got a problem where its too hard core for casual fans and too casual for hardcore fans.

But it's just right for people like me who like to pretend they are playing a hard core game whilst not actually doing so.

I think quite a few people want a hard core game and welcome it. We don't welcome a game full of bugs and a million patches that don't address major bugs.

2 questions;

is the split screen still barebones shit? i have 2011 and you couldn't even do a season. something my dad and i did back in like 1990 on the sega genesis.

other question; is the (controller) handling any different/improved from 2011, or is it still basically the same? i'm fine with it but i found nongamers like my dad couldn't do a damn fucking thing even with assists, it was just really easy for him to go off screen and crash, sure he's not good at games but at least with the genesis ones he could get around, and it's not really an age thing; the steering is just really fucking twerky on controllers, with 2011 at least.

I'm not sure about splitscreen, but if controller support is anything like 2012 it should be pretty good.

Btw, seems a few people are getting early access, I'll have to contact Codies for that, and my fuckton of cash.

I skipped 2012, had a good time with 2011 and loved 2010.

Happy that tire wear scaling is back, you really need it for 20% races.

Going to see how the game scores and what people/gaf think about it before I dip, by then the classic edition should be £10 cheaper too.

Another fantastic OT for the F1 Series, this time the maybe a able improve the game (maybe) so I might be giving this one a chance.

Especially the inclusion of Imola and the older, more busier cars could tip me over to buying this one, but It'd probably require the resurrection of GAF league. Speaking of which, whatever happened to the Fastest Sector? I imagine the lack of growth and low user base did it, but I missed most of it because of my military service and would love a pCARS league now or just casual nights with NFS:HP and like.

I want to get this for PC but might just skip it. I got 2011 but hated 2012 when I played it at my friend's house (don't know why, just felt strange).

Might wait for a price drop.

Most people lost interest in 2012 pretty quickly, so the site was pretty much dead, and I'm guessing Lucius didn't have time to look after it. FV disappearing didn't help either. Has anyone heard from him? :/
