FakeGAF 6: Fear the Walking Thirst

I think about this a lot, but the fact that my fellow adults and I, most of who have taken very different paths in life, shared that same magical N64/PSX childhood boggles my mind

It's like, if I met a 27 year old lawyer who's well established with his firm, he's done way more than me and leads a successful life, but he probably played Donkey Kong 64 at the same time I did

Growing up is weird

thats how I feel when I see people my age lately, they must have played at least super nintendo x n64 x genesis x playstation

I remember a co worker and I talking about snes and mario kart and remembering good times, then I asked her out, Nintendo was my wing man that day :p

DOOM will have a difficulty level where a death means restarting the game.

I generally dislike FPS for reasons I've gone into many times, but I'll try Doom just hoping for a raw, sensational spectacle of carnage. I'm not above that.

Nah, but why tho? Female singers are almost universally better than male ones imo

I agree, I tend towards music with female vocalists. It rests easier in the mix and sounds more pleasing to me. Male vocalists I like tend to have higher/prettier voices. I don't like growling vocalists at all. Zero tolerance.

is it misogyny if I can't get into female singers?
Personally I greatly prefer female singers and it's not because I dislike men, it's because I like how higher voices sound better.

I guess part of it that might help make it sound better would be something like "I prefer singers with lower ranges" though idk if that's true for you

I don't know. I think music is really personable for me so it's much easier for me to listen to a male vocalist. It's much easier for me to find the pain and angry to relate for the most part.

Like I have no issue watching films with female leads, or play games with female leads. It's just fucking music that does this.

But it's not even that I generally prefer singers with lower ranges lol. I listen to The National and that's pretty low but I usually listen to like Radiohead and like Vampire Weekend. So high as heck.

There was a point when I realized I was the same age as the people in the NFL or whatever doing these very impressive and amazing things. Those people were my peers and in a multi-verse maybe there was a version of me doing those same things.

Now those same types of people are 23 and were toddlers when I was playing Mario 64.

I try not to let it all get me down. My life isn't something anyone would write a scripted reality TV show where I'm constantly having lunch dates with people and staring at my phone while I disinterestingly have a conversation, but my life is pretty good.

I actually feel pretty bad because I posted that picture of my baby on my facebook and it just happens to fall directly above a post from an old classmate who is trying to start a gofundme campaign so that he and his wife can adopt a child. They can't conceive and i'm all "ISN'T MY BABY SO FUCKING CUTE AND BETTER THAN ALL OF YOU PEOPLE'S BABIES COMBINED'.

Were you a fan or did you play the originals?

I remember playing them at the store, but I wasn't a PC gamer in that era. Never been a big Doom fan. I don't care if they get anything "right" or not, if I can gore a bunch of demons I'll probably find some entertainment. Games that allow this are few and far between these days, with developers tending towards generic soldier games. Shooting soldiers is boring. Really boring. Give me something exciting.

Can't disagree with this at all. I haven't decided if I'll get it or not.

I mean, I can get down on some male vocalists, stuff like Brand New and Bright Eyes are always going to be on my playlist.

For me though, the lyrics are the most important part of the song (if it's going to have any staying power) and I find that most male vocalists don't have great lyrical styles. Especially in my preferred genres. So I stick with female vocalists.

All of that said, I do think women just sound better in musical arrangements most of the time. Make me choose between having to listen to some vapid male pop star or some vapid female pop star and I'll choose the female pop star every single time, I find male pop vocals annoying.

And while I do think men are poisoned from birth with toxic masculinity that pervades our culture and makes us (for the most part) emotionally distant and encourages violence, I don't hate men.

So, long story short, you aren't sexist if you prefer a specific gender vocal.

I dislike most FPS. Im cool with Third Person Shooters despite some actually being literally the same shit FPS does in terms of mechanics but I like being more aware of the surroundings around my characters. That plus the first person movement usually gives me migraine in most cases.

Timesplitters 2 remains the king of FPS.

I love female singers. Girls/women doing "man's jobs" is so hot to me. All of my relationships have been with assertive/non-girly women

I don't like female comedians though... not by concept, just there's not one I find funny

Jen Kirkman and Iliza Shlesinger are both hilarious.

I almost universally don't like standup. There's too much darkness in them [standup comics]. For all of the laughs and shtick, these are really dark people, and for whatever reason I really pick up on it, and it puts me in a bad mood.

There are a few exceptions -- Of course -- But speaking generally, I don't like standup.

I've seen that, and I believe had the conversation before that I don't care. I'm fully aware that I'm spamming stuff but I'm mostly doing it as a scapbook for myself and my family.

I don't use facebook for anything interesting and I don't have many friends.

My favorite FPS games are as follows:

Borderlands 2
Black Ops 2
Killzone 2
Farcry 3

Standup feels too forced to me, which why I prefer sitcoms/comedies.

If anyone here has Borderlands TPS we should totes play that, because I only ever got two hours in and LOOOOOOVED BL2

I liked Titanfall. It didn't have a lot of content but the game itself was solid and fun. Halo's good for shenanigans but it's turning into a more standard shooter as time progresses. Borderlands is also good for dumb fun and guns and has no shortage of content. Destiny is just Borderlands if it took itself seriously. I remember having fun on the Killzone 2 multiplayer and the shotgun having a ridiculous range. Never played Black Ops 2. I liked Advanced Warfare though, so there's that.

I would have probably got addicted to Destiny if I had any way of playing videogames.

I'm a sucker for that stuff. I played Phantasy Star Online instead of going to college and now i'm sitting here talking to you folks instead of being CEO of Twitter.

Dorsey attended the Missouri University of Science and Technology before subsequently transferring to New York University, but he dropped out.

I'm a college dropout so I have no excuse but to start some world changing Web 3.0 social platform.

for me TPS and FPS are kinda boring if all they offer is the Shooter.

so like I really dig a game like Dishonored tho, and even something like Bioshock because it breaks up the pacing with exploration and what not.

I'm pretty sure there have been like 4 different people in this thread who wanted to play TPS

If all they offer is the shooter aspect then it's good to have a fast-paced environment for you game, like Vanquish.

Ohhhhh shit I'm writing the end of my novel now. The final battle. The journey to the bad guy's fortress is at hand.

I just need to convince one person:

Kanye West

Get his stupid crazy ass and you'll get people flooding the new platform.

i gotta respect kanye's hustle. he worked hard as shit to get to where he is with a lot of people telling him he wouldn't be able to

TPS:

Uncharted 2
Dead Space
RE4
Splinter Cell
Maybe Ghost Recon Advanced Warfare
Tomb Raider

I'm leaving off GTA/Red Dead because I consider them something to themselves.

Arrogant people who worked hard to get where they are are far less admonishable than people born into privilege or power.

My training class mentioned GAF during some downtime. I didn't want to say anything, naturally.
Details?

I respect him and love his music, but dude is a walking drama machine at times. Perhaps intentionally, but probably because he's just that way.

Mentioned the thread about lifting embargos on NX details, and then again today with the news about the NX/Zelda dates.

The instructor already knows that I go by Professor Beef (though not that I'm on GAF), no thanks to a friend of mine who is one of the helpers in the class. >:| I was trying to keep my work and personal life separate!

I thought I had Vanquish, but surprisingly I don't.

Got it mixed up with Binary Domain.

Vanquish was one the last games that I bought without knowing anything about it. I saw one GIF years ago and thought that it looked cool, and I went through 3 Gamestops before I found a copy (this was before I started using Amazon regularly). Like Mirror's Edge, it's a really short game but I enjoyed every minute I spent playing it. There's so much freedom in your mobility in that game. You can boost, you can vault over cover, you can dodge roll, and you can combine those with slow motion at pretty much any time.

I'd put it on my list of favorite third person shooters.
