Nice that the OT is finally here. Other thread was half spoilers half graphics complaints :(

Now that I've played the game a little (a little more than 1 hour... didn't have time this week end and can't play violent games in front of my little girl) I already understand what this franchise has so much praise. It's a very special (no shitty pun intended) atmosphere and the possibilities seem to be almost infinite. The feeling when you get out of the vault.... at the same time freedom but also fear and so many questions. I'm glad I've never played this before and coming fresh for this one seems to be a good thing.

I just hope that it's not too much fights and more exploring and adventure but as I've read the other thread and here in the OT it's clearly one of the players choice.

Just my first feelings with the game even if I know that I have to play 5-10 hours before having a solid opinion.

My final choice S.P.E.C.I.A.L

Strength 1
Perception 4
Endurance 5
Charisma 4
Intelligence 6
Agility 5
Luck 3

Vault Boy approves!

I am so ready for my Pip-Boy Edition tomorrow.

Which vault boy is that? I have the one from fallout 3 ce

How do you guys distribute your points when leveling up? Only in perks or do you also increase your SPECIAL stats?

I read somewhere that subtitles on the PS4 version are broken - is this a wide spread problem for people or just an instance?

Broken in what respects?, the only thing I've read is that the framerate is wobbly, and tanks, but I don't thinks it's known if this is limited to the PS4 version or not yet.

With Kinguin, you should never expect to get the code earlier than the actual release day.

If you want to get keys for games you can VPN early, you should go with GMG or cdkeys.com

Oh, but my roomie received it and ordered it before the weeekend. And my deliveries have been timely in the past.

Maybe the key resellers key is from Funstock which were delayed until today, haha.

If delayed to today, that's alright, the game is playable in 15 hours. I have to work tomorrow. Unfortunately. I just want to pre-load it already...

Some people seemed to like my hassle-free character build in the other thread, so I will repost it here:
Ok, I think I have decided my final build. It is a middle of the road ranged weapons build which gives me access to almost everything in the game, but puts a couple of extra points in CHA and LCK to get some extraordinary rewards. The build is specifically built to minimize the need to run for bobbleheads in early game. Here it is:

So, where (+1) is the bobblehead bonus, {+1} is "YOU'RE SPECIAL" bonus, and [+X] is intended character development:
STR 2 [+3] (+1) - get STR bonus perk early to allow "armorer", so no need to rush for the STR bobblehead. Two more STR bonus perks and bobblehead gives a good amount of carry weight and access to the important "strong back" perk.
PER 4 (+1) - could have gone one lower, but it is convenient to have "locksmith" before getting the bobblehead, and "demolition expert" is still nice to have
END 1 [+1] (+1) - investing a single END bonus perk to be able to get "lifegiver" eventually because of the nice HP regen. It could make sense to invest two more to simplify underwater exploration, but I know too little about the game to be able to commit to that
CHA 7 (+1) - requirements in conversations are all about CHA, so I choose to focus on this. With alcohol and CHA gear, I should be able to go up to 10 for the most difficult conversations. I don't think the last two perks in the CHA tree are worth it, but "inspirational" is really nice if you like to hang out with companions (which I do)
INT 5 (+1) - gives access to "hacker" and "scrapper" early, and "science!" after the bobblehead. Going higher than this may be good if you intend to farm exp in endgame times, but I don't think I will do that. As I understand it, there are basically no INT requirements (except perk requirements) for conversations or dealing with technology, so it does not make sense to go higher for that reason. "Nuclear physicist" may be really nice if fusion cores for power armor energy turn out to be rare, but I have to assume that the game is balanced for people who do not have this perk. Also, I will be able to buy fusion cores with my awesome charisma!
AGL 4 (+1) - first level of "action boy" is lame, so I downgraded my investment here. Will get it eventually after finding the bobblehead, though. "Ninja" goes away, because the massive damage boost is very theoretical. You get it on one enemy, but what about the pack following him? Indoors it is probably useless unless you invest in "sneak", which I don't intend to do. Also, it seems annoying to have to use sneak all the time, rather than just playing the game.
LCK 5 {+1} [+1] (+1) - getting "better criticals" from the start (after "you're special" bonus), and will get "critical banker" after boosting LCK with an initial perk. The bobblehead will eventually get me "grim reaper's spirit", which is not necessary but a great addition to the build

Can't find the quote unfortunately, but I don't think the poster elaborated on the problem other than stating that it was "broken" for him and then another poster backed him up saying he had the same problem on the PS4 :/

Would love to hear if others are having subtitle issues.

People crap on FO3 all the time, but aside from the general lack of what made the first two so good and how NV showed it up with tighter mission design and writing, I still had a really fun time wandering for dozens of hours, slaying nearly everyone who lived in the wastes. My expectations are being kept in check, but I just really would be okay with a better version of the last gen stuff as long as the game can keep the pressure up and not just flatline with challenge level before the main quest line's end is in sight.

"broken" is a hyperbolic term that is thrown around far too much these days.

Man not long to go now. Really think i am going to do a more stealth type character first time thru.

Thanks for this. I'm going with this.

Can you explain a little further how your modifiers work? I understand the base stats but not the [+X].

Edit: Can you also tell us what perks you plan on getting and the reason for that?

Again people, mark down the Misc quest "Talk to Bonni". Do not ignore that quest!! It turned into one of the most epic side quests I've played in a Bethesda game. It also has a nice moral choice at the end.

After 25 hours of play time, I'm having a great time with this, more so than Fallout 3. The quests are much more varied.

Quest variety was my main concern, so this is good to hear.

Straight up spoilers right in the OT!

What's stealth like in this game?

Managed to untie myself and leap off the hype train's tracks early this year, but watching a short gameplay video today almost yanked me on board. Literally the only thing I've always wanted Bethesda to improve a lot was their combat mechanics and their stealth mechanics. It looks like combat has been improved greatly – what about stealth?

Wat?

Strange though that Bethesda themselves haven't released the list.

Reference to a character in Preacher, I reckon. (One of the greatest things ever written.)

Just going by the few hours today I spent watching streams the side quests seem a lot more involved and interesting than Fallout 3. More New Vegas type stuff with some good dialogue.

I saw one that was...well I'll just say it was pretty damn cool and made me shut off the stream so I wouldn't spoil the resolution.

hope Adam works, its not that uncommon so im sure its in but theres been doubt since nobody has even tried it as far as i can tell.
