it shouldn't be an option.. should be off, period lol.. its not like it was too hard to control with it off.
So they should turn it off for you so 99% of other people can stop enjoying the game?

passing assistance is not the same as playing in manual controls, you can play in assisted with passing assistance off, it just cuts down on the ping pong thing.

semi assisted and manual is all which is needed.

At the worst the default should be semi assisted.

Uh you can switch the settings to manual.

Yes but 90% of people dont. Trying to find games online against semi assisted gamers is a task let alone manual.

Most people that play Fifa dont even know what manual or semi is. If EA made semi the default setting the online experience would be so much better.

Same with the new tactical defending. EA put it in there but they also allow you to not use it and keep using the BS system of last year where you can just run into people to tackle. Makes no sense!!

Skills!!

Still enjoy Clubs mode on occasion with FIFA 11. Scored this beauty today.

But I rushed the replay saving, which is something EA desperately needs to improve on. The ability to upload them is superb but not being able to save longer replays or save goals for editing later is abit sad compared to what the FPS lot can do.

When I played '11 online I only ever played full manual and it was a fucking blast. Sure, sometimes it took a while to get a match but it was like playing an entirely new game and you could also make some beautiful passes not possible unless on manual and when you score, you know you earned it.

I'd hope to see less of the ping pong online this year because to me it's incredibly boring but then again I'll probably just end up looking for full manual matches again.

Nope, you can't do defending press anymore. It's completely gone.

Manual control is silly. You can look at the stats for any of our players who insist on it, it's always the same: the more manual your controls, the worse your passing and scoring ratios are. I play the game such that I score the most beautiful goals, therefore I have most things on full assist or semi. There is no honor in losing for your team under the guise of manual controls.

Seriously. If other people are depending on you to help them win games, don't do stuff like that. Think of it like this: winning is way better than any kind of satisfaction you'd ever get from missing all your passes and only being able to hit the easiest ones that would be a cake walk if you used the proper controls.

In case anyone missed it, I have updated my gameface for a new season. Okay, maybe not updated, I just gave him a haircut and he's still the most horrifying thing ever.

Hmm unfortunately, I'm gonna have to leave you in the dark on that one.

All I can say is that it's their main feature for FIFA12. You don't make main features optional.

They let you turn Passing Power Assistance ON in FIFA11, which is one half of the Pro Passing feature they introduced last year (contextual error being the other half, but you can't change that).

They've left Legacy Defending in for people who want to revert back to the homing missile pressuring system (but I believe it stays OFF in ranked games, like they did with Passing Power Assistance):

In his defence I did think similar in that the old defending style was out completely, may have been in one of the interviews with Rutter where he said everyone will have to just learn the new style of defending.

Could be wrong though.

Manual passing is great but yeh using it in clubs isnt always a great idea. Me and a friend did it for awhile where its just the two of us up front with no ANY and we played some glorious football. But then we'd have games where we sucked, and when other guys came on it just wasn't working and like you say, you dont use it if you're gonna be letting people down.

Manual passing is more like real football though, because defenders have to spend more time marking the space otherwise guys will pass into it which gives the person on the ball slightly more time. The flow of the game ends up being a lot more realistic.

Biggest peeves?

1) Bloody homing missile crossing with a good pro against shitty AI. Seriously fuck that shit.
2) Stupid hit and hope long balls that result in Pro bursting past idiotic defence. I swear some teams out there just do nothing but hit and hope for 70% of the game.

I almost never run into teams who play (or even try to play) good football like my team does.

Hmmm from that picture, I could be wrong about it.

I'd like to see if (X) is still defender press in the button help. Legacy Defending may just be a more automated Tactical Defending.

We'll be sure when the demo hits.

Gameplay doesnt look that good to me. EA really need to remove fully assisted settings. It ruins the game!!

Career mode at last looks like it will be good and that could be enough to make me buy Fifa 12.

you can now choose to play against people on manual settings if you want.

ssolitare said:
So on harder difficulties how good is the Teammate AI in fifa?

Are your defenders total idiots near the goal box?
Are the goalies idiots?
How good is the enemy AI at the late game? Are they unstoppable cheaters all of a sudden?

Fifa looks good animation and graphics wise, which I like.

Is there a lot of customization in Fifa, say, will I be able to create a player and put him on the USA team and then on say, Barcelona's team?

If I can do that then I'm in. Passing looks pretty good in that madrid v barca vid, can anyone elaborate on that little bit for me? How good is the passing game?

defenders 's IA it's good but not perfect...movements needs to be improved.
goalies are good to,but they suffer "finesse shots"
the AI at "legend" level it's pretty good..maybe too good actually..many tricks even from low rated teams.

sorry, but if you 're looking for customisation,PES it's the game for you...fifa has always been a few steps back in that regard..but such basic thing as create e player and put it in a team..yes you can do it..you can even play the career mode with a created player.

passing depends on what settings you decide to play...full assist doesn't need much precision..even more if you play like a big team like Barça or R.madrid...semi-assist helps you a little but you can make wrong passages if you don't do them with attention,or too fast ...manual is with no helps from the game, where you pass, how strong the pass is,it's all in your hands

all this is about fifa 11,i haven't play fifa 12

it's true..but hopefully online the default setting will be the new tactical defending..so you could use the old "homing pressing" only in local with your friends...

no it's not..there's an option to use the old pressing..but the default is the new method, and online too i think.

Wednesday can't come soon enough. I wish EA would do something similar to Konami and release a demo of the final code.

Demos are usually of beta build code where all the features are polished and complete, but never will be final due to the nature of Sony and Microsoft certification process.

ea always put a old build on the public demo..last year the demo on september was much older than the ones people could play 1 month prior at a EA event...

Good jersey for the wolfsburg this year..maybe i will use that for "home" and the lyon's one for "away" on ultimate team this year.

Having honor whilst losing on manual control is almost as silly as using a 3* team and using that as your excuse for losing to Barca. If it pisses you off that people use 5* teams then use the matchmaking tools bra, but a pet peeve of mine is when someone comes in here "Goddamnit I use Porto and lost 5-0 to Barcelona why do all the noobs use 5* teams!?"

Which is why I mentioned the 2nd PES demo. If Konami could do it, I'm sure EA can too.

Anyway, just played 2 FIFA 11 Head to Head matches, both opponents disconnected. I suppose being beaten by Benfica while playing as Real and Arsenal is pretty groundbreaking for them. The community for this game really is shit.

Either PES's 2nd demo is code from one month before final, or they've hit final way before their street date.

FIFA never finals when there is still time. Demos take significant development power that demos are done separately and way before the game finals.

ranked games is only 1v1, not clubs, you could change the passing settings on clubs last yr, so unless that changed, the defending thing will be similar.

The hacked pros is the worst. I don't see the point of playing with a superhuman player. Surely that takes the fun and satisfaction out of the game.

Not to mention that a lot of teams will see them on the ready screen and quit or quit during the game. Which must mean they spend most of the time struggling to get in a game and when they do it's shallow and boring?

It would.

One thing I've noticed is that people who get to test it early, or generally speaking even, really suck at playing FIFA. They really fucking suck.

Is the demo offline only? I really need to test the online experience before committing to FIFA 12. Basically, in FIFA 10, whoever is hosting will likely win the match.

All the other demos have been offline so this one probably is as well.

This came up quite a bit, but is this the case for Fifa 11 as well? I am still playing Fifa WM 2010 on PS3 and its working flawlessly if the opponent doesnt have a super-bad connection.

I am hoping the training ground is in the demo, and yeah, cant wait any longer either :/

Really it's the shorter the pass the worse manual is for ya and i imagine that will change once we can apply sliders to the power bar speed and they remove the supercharged first touch passes.

Even without the variable power bar speed, manual long balls are amazing. You can do like three different types of long balls that are infinitely better than through balls at mid to long ranges. Assuming things don't dramatically change, i can't wait to show yall what i'm talkin' bout in FIFA 12 clubs.

Said it before, but again you might want to check your own connection, because myself and others have never heard of a host advantages (I played 09-now)

This year I'm switching from the PS3 version to the 360 version.
On average, how many players are playing fifa 11 online on the 360 now? There's 80k on the PS3.

Any particular reason why you change? Just asking whether there is some drawbacks to the ps3 versions. Online matches worse or something.

Nobody plays the PS3 version. If you want to have people to play with, especially here, you gotta do it on 360. Every year people are like "oh look there's almost as much interest in the PS3 thread" but seriously, go back and look at 10 or 11. Get it for 360, don't be silly.
