He's a pre-order character, not exactly DLC

And ffs people, please stop editing your posts to respond posts after yours! It's confusing

tomato tohmato.

if i can't get it day 1 without pre-ordering, i consider that on-disc dlc. i wouldn't have an issue with cosmetic items, but a character is a whole other issue.

but alas, this is an old issue and i don't wanna bring up old topics, just the jason thing irks me a tad.

Some of the teams for 9 states 5v5 have been released so you can see some of the additional players that have not been mentioned are attending the tournament. Darui (sim), YHC Mochi, Gachikun, Inco, Kyabetsu, Gonzalez, Kim123, Kindo (guy player from mixupnight), KOK sagat, Reiketsu, kawaguchi rose, and 1P Ken.

This tournament is looking stacked.

Yeah, he'll end up being DLC after some time, so it's not that different

If you are referring to guest characters, I hate them too

What a completely insane opinion.

Look at Zangief. He's a grappler with limited mobility. It's extremely rare to see him get a perfect on another character, especially one who can poke and keep him at bay like Chun or Sim. He has to take those hits just to get in sometimes. His health is a utility, much like an armoured move or special. It's one of his tools and is integral to his gameplay.

What you're suggesting is that if Zangief had 2x his current health, that the matchup would be the same. Is that correct? If so then that's completely insane. A lot of times he hopes for a trade or a whiff punish opportunity to get in, meanwhile Chun and Sim are doing everything they can to escape if he gets in. Giving him more health would give him more opportunities to get in, conversely if he had less health then he'd have to make every moment count. His tool of extra health would be removed. That's almost like removing a move from a character's moveset. It's not impossible for him to get in, but it's hard.

Basically health differential leads to more or less opportunities for the character to take advantage of what they do have in the match. By referring to something like a 9-1 matchup, you're admitting a chance to win. It's not impossible using strictly movesets and gameplay systems. If you lower the health, that directly lowers the opportunities to take advantage of those admitted chances. If Cammy gets a knockdown on Sagat, do you think him having 6 chances to block the mixup over having 2 is the exact same thing?

MvC2 Sent has super high health. The end result is characters who barely stand a chance still dont and need luck, those who did still do well.

Until SF3, SF had the same health across the board. Gief was fine, in bad matchups he needed a sick read always or trade since he hit harder. You have this false hope factor that your opponent is eventually going to slip and you'll get lucky. T. Hawk has more health than Blanka, its bullshit regardless you just take longer to lose. Gief trades would always be favorable since his normals hit harder, health doesn't matter in the Chun or Sim fight, you play it the same. Give him a hitgrab special like Ibuki, that would matter not more health.

Remember when games use to have handicaps?

Jason is still a thing that people care about?

(I don't mean this ironically. I'm not a huge horror guy but thought that he wasn't that big a deal anymore.)

I was playing a bunch of USF4 on steam last night, winning more than losing (still low rank...around 1600pp/bp).

My username on steam is Skillzilla81. There were a few people I kept getting matched up with. Then I ran into somebody whose name was "lol...skillzilla."

I bodied them, but then I was left confused as to who it could be. Is there any way to check?

I don't understand how you could wait for other editions of a FG before buying it. That early part of a game's life is fun and I'd never want to jump in on a game a year in, it'd be so much work to catch up.

because in MKX game if i want the full experience just as everything comes out, the game effectively $75.

($60 for game, $15 for characters which VASTLY affect gameplay, unlike cosmetics)

so unless you love a series sooooooooo much you wanna pay above average game price for it, that seems like an overpriced package to me. you are essentially paying premium for the allure of going in fresh and learning the game with others.

i'd rather wait for the accumulative version where all bugs glitches and issues are worked out, with all the extra characters added and most cosmetic options included for CHEAP. that's called being a smart consumer.

Things always get cheaper if you wait.

If I want to play a game, I'm going to buy it. /shrug

If you can wait, good for you, but that doesn't make you a smarter consumer, it just means you value different things.

Go on their profile and click the arrow beside their name. Not sure if you can do that on private ones, though.

1. They arent competitive, they just want to dick around and shelf after a few weeks
2. Jumping in late makes it quicker to catch up, you have resources knowing what emergent things you have to know and dont have to go through that phase where no one knows whats up. Playing old KoF and Vsav myself, its super fun knowing what I need to know to give the vets trouble.

i agree with everything you said, but in this particular case there's a significant amount of a product being announced as paid bonus content before the main product, and even has a release date.

it's like... buying a new iphone that's coming out, with the news that an updated version is coming out a few weeks after it. at least that's how i'm looking at it. i understand others have different values and thresholds.

Yeah, I'm of the same mindset. I want MKX when it releases and I don't want to wait at least a year for the complete edition. I don't even buy many games so I have no issue "breaking the bank" when it involves a franchise I really like.

EDIT: Yes, its obvious they're milking character DLC. The same characters they're releasing in a $30 combat pack could be given away with the main game. Its just how the market is, I've learned to live with it. The gaming industry is not exactly the greatest when it comes to being pro-consumer. *shrug*

I really enjoy that starting/discovery period too, which is why fighting games are almost the only games i buy full price. Single player stuff is just as good a year on, fighting games are completely different because you mostly just get bodied by people with much more practice. Not that fun for me.

--Which is also why i think delaying the 360/PS3 versions of MKX until summer is kind of a problem.

Those games are ancient so the amount of new information being found is low and the best players would be stagnant. If a game is a year or two old it's still evolving so you have to catch up and stay up to date.

I can't think of many examples where someone came in a year or two in and became really good. New blood at the top is typically guys who have played all along and leveled up.

By all means though, I welcome anyone to play. Like it makes sense for the casual fans who just want to play story mode and see all the finishers and what not.

Idk, Apple usually supports their older models for a good while before completely making them obsolete. Video Games rarely keep support for a full year.

Word, thanks. I thought it was a friend, but this person had a lot more points than anybody I know. lol.

I get what you're saying (even though it's a poor analogy :p), lol. For me, it's not likely I'll care about any of the DLC. I think the content we're getting as a base will be worth the price of entry, and that's what matters most to me. If I felt like the stuff I was getting in the initial 60 dollars wasn't worth it, I'd have issue with it.

I just want NRS to talk about the netcode for MKX damn it! Please don't be terrible.

No point, even when devs do talk about it 9 times out of 10 its in office connections or straight bs results like being able to play across country with little to no lag... yeah right.

Also meh to Jason, wish they would have not done this. Freddy completely killed my interest in 9. Hate these lame horror movie characters.

Even if they did talk about it, it would be useless marketing speak, "improved netcode for smooth connections" - when was the last time a big publisher gave real detail on netcode?

Sonic Fox
Ppmd in Melee
Japan SF4 has a lot not Day 1 guys like Kazunoko
Gentlemen Thief in VF

You really are a strange mind to me honestly though. I think this only people at the top played from Day 1 is the craziest thing I've seen from you.

I didn't say only, I said it's not common.

I do not know anything about those other games but Sonic Fox was playing MK9 at least as early as 2011 and he played Injustice from the beginning.

Sonic Fox first placed top 8 at a major at Winter Brawl 2012, less than a year after the game came out. He was obviously playing before then as well. So he is an example of what I am talking about. "New blood" that was always there and playing, he just reached the top level later.

To be fair, a vast majority of people that play games from the start never reach the same level as its top players either.

If you have solid fundamentals and decent execution it's not really hard to jump into any new FG. Starting later means having more information readily available, which just cuts down on the personal investment required. Obviously things change a bit when you introduce arbitrary barriers like 1f links that rely almost entirely on muscle memory, but most FGs aren't exactly difficult to understand on a mechanical level.

Set up my turntable and put on some Spraynard.

Did the dishes and making myself some bacon and eggs.

Have my Chromecast ready for when the stream starts.
