Final Fantasy 13 - A Storm Gathers

They think if they keep putting Lightning in everything she's suddenly going to not suck, for some reason.

They should stop thinking that. She's the worst FF main character in the entire mainline series. She can fuck off and they can finally give us Versus.

I'd buy 5 copies. I'd want them to do the story as well. Might as well go all out on the batshit insanity. A Platinum Games time travel story would fill the whole world's minds full of fuck.

Um... they did time travel before. Would be kind of a spoiler to more explicit.

"A Storm Gathers"... so, Cloud is joining? Right? Right?!

My guess is that it won't be called "Final Fantasy XIII-3", but instead something like "A Storm Gathers: Final Fantasy XIII", with FFXIII being now more like a 'subtitle', just like "A Realm Reborn: Final Fantasy XIV".

Anyway if we want to be positive, at least the FFXIII series is a good cage for Toriyama and would keep him busy and away from ruining other IPs and new FFs.
Which new ff? We started this generation with 13 and versus in the works and a ff online in development. Years have passed and still they are working on versus, they are working on 14 2.0 since they canned 14 and we get another toryiama masterpiece(lol). Where are other ff? Type 0? Which they don't localize because they are way to late as usual and waiting for that meanwhile the psp market died in us/Europe? Japanese ff output this generation is the same meat from years

I thought the last shot could have been taken in a couple of different ways. I'm probably wrong on this, but the first time I saw it I felt like they tried to imply that Lightning was going to be evil or something, just the way it was directed and how eerie the music was. Or it could have just been that... she's crystallized, not evil or anything, but they still made it very ominous. Of course knowing S-E they'll probably have us playing as Lightning again after forcing us to put up with Serah for an entire game. Either that or they'll punish us further by making Snow the MC

I figured the music was ominous because the world is covered in chaos, Serah is dead, Lightning was turned into crystal which meant she failed at dealing with Caius on her end.

As much as I want to be upset about this. I know deep down, I'll buy it day one, and most likely enjoy it. >_> But, Lightning isn't that great of a lead character, I really hope they do better in developing her character in the next game.

Um... I'm pretty sure you are wrong about XIV.

EDIT:

Hello again to all you FFXIVers out there, and to all of you looking forward to FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. Letter from the Producer #34 is going to be a bit of a special edition!

I like Lightning just fine. She's just like the rest of Square's stupid, stoic, cool looking characters. She's just like Squall, Cloud and the rest of them. In fact, I kind of find her a little nostalgic in a way, she's like the modern equivalent of 1998 incarnate.

Together with Squall

Squall, Cloud and Lightning fighting Tidus (Sun) in the most epic twist that brings together 4 previously unconnected worlds through the force of PARADOX!!!!!!!!!

I think the one difference between Lightning and Squall and Cloud is that the latter two actually change during the game. Lightning has a nice growing up arc with Hope but once that's over she reverts back to her old self and even in FF XIII-2 is just like that. Also the whole 'I can't be happy no matter what' is something that Cloud and Squall got over while Lightning didn't.

Simply terrible. The day they announce this will be a bad day, especially if the game continues the incredibly stupid story of FFXIII-2 with Lightning trapped in the 4D world or something like that LOL.

Based on the DLC it's more than likely a direct continuation.

LOL not worth buying for me, I sold FFXIII-2 a while ago (I still have FFXIII though), won't even bother with this.
When Square Enix decides to start making good games in the FF series again, we'll talk again.

Given the fact that FF13-2 was $20 a month after release, you might be better off waiting just a teensie little bit rather than buying day one, even if you really want the game :p

I should get to finishing XIII-2 then. I literally could not do it. It was a better game than XIII in some respects, but I am so turned off by the entire XIII saga at this point.

Seriously Square, drop it.

Why can't we have FF XII HD instead? :|

This is what I don't understand. The ps2 era games can easily be upscaled for HD releases and using the International version of those games will bring new things to the fans in the west. Those games would do much better in terms of sales for a lesser investment than FF XIII-2 or FF XIII-3 and wouldn't damage the brand as much.

She so cool with them flashy moves and clothes, alpha female characteristics.

I really can't wait to see where they go with this next. There's so much that's uncertain after that insane ending.

Now that the barrier is broken, doesn't that mean that time no longer exists? That was the whole point of Caius' plan, and he succeeded. If Valhalla and the real world aren't separated anymore, is there even life and death anymore?

Then there's the new Cocoon in 500 AF, Bhunivelze. Do we get to explore that? I wonder because the DLC shows Lightning hundreds of years later, waking up from crystal sleep. Is anyone even still alive by then?

Pretty much the darkest ending in a FF game ever, so I really can't wait to see what happens next, especially with
Fang and Vanille freed
. Then there's this whole "new direction" thing they're starting to promote. I have a feeling it will be pretty out there.

I agree. I finished XIII-2 though, and while the end was enough to sour me, I think I'm pretty well done.

I'll play the new game for review, but that's about it.

It's even worse seeing things like Theaterythm, FF XIV 2.0, and the next gen engine, knowing that there are certain groups within SE capable of decent and good games and committed to quality for the sake of the series. And then we get thrown Toriyama crap.

Do you usually try to get all Achievements/Trophies?

That's what ended up saving FF13 for me...hoping does the same for 13-2.

My interest on this game depends on one thing entirely on one thing: difficulty. The removal of level caps ruined FFXIII-2, making the combat system virtually pointless (which is to say it made the game worthless). The "freedom" and "sidequests" we got wasn't worth it.

Also it is funny people want a platinum games game. You realize it that would make it... linear!!! :O

Agreed. I never get why everyone thinks XIII-2 is better than XIII in every way, because it's not. Despite the lies about just "hitting A to win," XIII was actually one of the more difficult FF games in some ways. The level caps allowed them to actually balance the difficulty properly, like they do in FFXI.

I'd prefer level caps periodically raising at certain story sections for every FF from now on. But then again, I played XI and I'm used to it, and know what they offer. In contrast, you could just be trying to farm monsters and components in XIII-2 for a while and suddenly you've ruined the difficulty balance on multiple boss fights because you're extremely over-leveled. In XIII-2, I barely even had to use Sentinel, Saboteur, or Synergist. I had to use all jobs in XIII frequently.

I only got the Platinum in 13-2 because it was three trophies away when I finally completed the game. But no, I don't really care for them otherwise.

Words cannot properly describe how excited I am for whatever they're going to announce on September 1st. I loved FF XIII, I loved FF XIII-2, and I love Lightning, and I just adore what they've done with the FF XIII series in general. Bring on FF XIII-3, I say!

Come at me, NeoGAF.

No, actually, don't. I don't feel the need to defend my love for FF XIII, and I understand exactly why many people don't like it. No need to have that discussion. :P

Would make too much sense for SE to do that.
I would pay full price for a XII International HD remake.

I'd pay full price day 1 for a HD version regardless of whether it would be the IZ version or the regular version. I just want FF XII in HD with trophies.

I'm looking forward to it, considering I enjoyed XIII and really liked XIII-2. I like ridiculous game stories for the most part and as long as the gameplay is fun then I'm excited.
