Final Fantasy 13 - A Storm Gathers

SE going bankrupt is the only way to save Final Fantasy. SE goes under, Sakaguchi reclaims the Final Fantasy name, and develops a game we are all proud to rightfully call a "Final Fantasy" title.

SE can't go under or else we lose all the great Eidos stuff. If FF has to suffer for them to remain great then so be it.

One thing I will say is that XIII and XIII-2 are possibly my favorite game soundtracks of all time.

It took you 60 hours? The game was ridiculously easy and repetitive, so yeah, there's 60 hours right there if you take the time to do a bunch of the monotonous fragment quests.

There was maybe 10 hours of actual content progressing the plot, and even then I think that's being generous.

XIII took around 50 hours, with XIII-2 taking around 30 to complete the plot alone, never mind the sidequests.

Considering most people agree that it takes at least 10-15 hours to get to Gran Pulse, this is nonsense. Even if you went to finish it straight from there, it'd still take another 5 hours at the very least. I'd say an extremely fast playthrough would be around 20 hours.

So yeah, 10 hours, where the hell did you get that from?

I meant 10 hours if they didn't have you jumping through hoops.

I can't really understand. Lightning is one of the worst main characters for the Final Fantasy series. Why not make more of a fuss over a guy like Balthier D=?

I think Lightning is ok. She seems to be the most reasonably human out of the bunch. She's hard-headed and cold, emotionally drained, she has real person problems and quirks so she's easy to identify with.

I don't really like the world of FFXIII from what I played(Is it just me or was almost every area floating platforms?). And the combat was ok, but I never really felt in control of my characters. I was more like a play caller.

If they can fix that stuff I might be interested, but really I'd prefer if they just sent Lightning to another dimension. So we wouldn't have all the garbage from the previous games showing up.

Because Balthier is a poor man's Han Solo. He always annoyed me when I played FFXII.

Does Han Solo have a couple of swag rings?

No he doesn't. Your argument is invalid.

Need an old school FF with crystals, the original theme song interwoven somehow, and medieval shit. The last several games have been futuristic, which has allowed for some amazing visuals, but it's time to rewind the clock a bit.

Based on XIII-2's ending I think
Lightning is the new villain... a storm gathers, which is always symbolic of evil, and storms are full of lightning

Man I'm smart!

It's funny people mention Sonic in this thread, because I've been saying for ages that I feel the fanbases/fates of Sonic and FF as series' are following almost identical trajectories, FF is just a few years behind. FF14 was their Sonic 2006, which means, in theory, things are going to improve tenfold in the next five years.

2 things need to happen:

1. Noel has to be playable character

2. Serah can't. (Honestly she's such an awfully bland character)

And if they're really serious about it
no more 'Sister A' must save 'Sister B' bullshit. It never worked and it won't work

Heh, I enjoy the eidos stuff, but FF is the main event for me....Versus is the last chance for SE to redeam themselves this gen.

On the other hand, I would welcome a Vita game. SE has announced bugger all for it so far. Its a catch 22...Vita aint selling well so it doesnt get big games....vita doesnt have big games so it isn't selling particularly well. Its a shame, because it is by far the best handheld system I have used.

Was just thinking, Lightning Saga going in a new direction...

Wii U? It certainly would be a new direction.

The whole point of the third game is to make money while FFXIV is being remade and Versus is being financed. It has a very slim chance of doing that on Wii U as opposed to the HD twins.

Wait....what?

I thought the last shot could have been taken in a couple of different ways. I'm probably wrong on this, but the first time I saw it I felt like they tried to imply that Lightning was going to be evil or something, just the way it was directed and how eerie the music was. Or it could have just been that... she's crystallized, not evil or anything, but they still made it very ominous. Of course knowing S-E they'll probably have us playing as Lightning again after forcing us to put up with Serah for an entire game. Either that or they'll punish us further by making Snow the MC

then Noctis and crew are the protagonists. And Etro is actually Lightning a million years in the future and becomes the last boss. So Versus XIII = Final Fantasy XIII-3 lol

Sigh.

I wish Square would have left XIII at just one game. Actually XIII-2 wasn't bad, but it should have ended there.

Now they're dragging it out to three games with the same mundane cast. Sorry Lightning fans, but she's extremely boring - her design may be cool, but that's about it. They tried to get me to care about her sisterly relationship with Serah in the DLC and I realized then that I will probably never have an emotional attachment for these characters like I do in some of the other FF games. To put it simply, they've tried too hard.

Instead of showing off the games that people keep begging to see (Type-0, FFX HD, Versus), Toriyama gets to hog the spotlight once again. If XIII-3 or whatever they decide to call it doesn't release until Summer/Fall 2013, that means the wait for those other titles will probably be even longer - just a guess, but it's likely true. I'm not expecting Versus XIII until late 2013/early 2014 now.

The more I think about it, the more it really irritates me. Why do they keep focusing on a "series" that a lot of people became disappointed with? It amazes me they shipped 3.4 million units of XIII-2 because they certainly didn't sell that many to consumers - 1.6-1.8m or so. With the amount of development time going into this continuation, one has to wonder how much are they willing to recycle... and as pointed out above, is it worth it? Sure you can argue easy profits, but how many will return a third time? This isn't like the Mass Effect series where it was planned to be a trilogy from the start and so the story was laid out in that way so people anticipated the next entry.

This entire console generation has seen nothing but Final Fantasy XIII games now. Think about that. XIV will soon join it, but for single player experiences, fans have only been able to chose from XIII, XIII-2 and soon a third XIII game. Not very inspiring if you ask me. I recognize that some people like those games, and while they were decent... they weren't great.

Square Enix tried to listen to the fans with XIII-2 and they got some of it right... but they still continue to ignore everything else, and to me that represents a huge problem.

This would be the ultimate way to cap off 6+ years of trolling Versus XIII enthusiasts. Here's hoping. Sometimes popcorn is actually better than videogames, it just depends on how salty it is.

I agree with Kagari's post, but now that they've started the ball rolling with an incomplete story, I do find myself eager to see what they do with it. I thought XIII-2 was very fun and XIII-3 has the potential to be a lot better.

Have you played the Lightning DLC? It sort of explains how and why she became crystal...

They need to fire that main writer guy. I can't remember his name, Tomiya or something? ARGH this is so frustrating for FF fans :(

I really hope the main characters are mature adults. Please no more pre-teens!! The cast for XIII-2 was bizarre.

What's hilarious is that if they released FF X HD it will probably do at least the same numbers as FF XIII-2 and there will be considerable less work going into it.

Then again I do want the conclusion to the story so, an expansion pack (both retail and digital) would the ideal way to go.

well said.

I actually didn't, so yeah I may not be the authority of what happened there. I'm just going by the actual ending of the game and mining my speculation from that. I had just heard that the Lightning DLC didn't really do anything so I didn't look into it.

I hope you get to throw that rotten tomato to Toriyama when you interview him and mention it's a love from the long time fans.

I really hope that FF event is not focused on XIII but also other FF titles.

I have a feeling it will be... :/

Personally I think the overall teaser site looks kinda crappy but that's me.

Though the little summary makes me laugh a little.

Here's hoping GILGAMESH is in this so I can somewhat care about it.

Hahahaha!

I think Versus will only be released after the PS4 is out. It'll be on PS3 but it's going to be late.

EDIT: Holy shit just realized I'm a member again.

I dunno, it's starting to look like FF10 HD is getting way more put into it than it should considering what it is. At least they managed to get FF13-2 out in 18 months of development.
