Granting us access to the Heroic version of the event while we have no FFXIII stuff available is wall-banging (the event itself doesn't give any FFXIII stuff, making it worse).

One of the trash mobs cast Slowga on my party in todays hard exp daily. It's a pretty rough thing to get hit with, but damn it's a very pretty spell.

So...we can't do Elite then ? ;(

We'll find out. My ballpark estimate is the tier that could clear Iguions Elite with Mastery should be able to savescum the shit out of it without any RS gear, considering it's only 1 round per stage, but it'll get extremely tedious after a while.

The interesting part about all this is, the tuning seems a lot more lenient than Rinoa elite. Hypothetically, this might be because there's no Retaliate-friendly RS weapon off the gacha (only 4* weapon is gloves, presumably for Snow, and obviously only 5* weapon is Vanille's)

If you have a multipurpose 5* like a Buster Sword or Danjuro that Cloud or Sephiroth can use, you probably could get some mileage out of Retaliate, but it's nowhere near as good as if you managed to RNG a Blitz Sword in VIII world.

Basically, be prepared to not rely on Retaliate cheese all that much. Thunders/Waters out the ass.

I think I'll keep my Mythril for the Limit Break Festival. Sure, we probably won't see it before a while, but it sounds more interesting than anything in between.

On a side note: I reaaaally want Sabin and Edgar.

I'm saving my Mythril for a weapon or four-weapon banner I want. But I have a feeling I'll end up blowing like 250 mythril on some banner without getting anything I want....
My luck with mythril pulls has actually been pretty good, though.

So the current guess is Vanille next and then Locke afterward? I just dumped a bunch of magicite on Growth Eggs because I couldn't resist the idea of instantly sending Locke from 1 to 40ish and adding him to my main team.

As far as Mythril goes, I'll probably throw one 11-pull at the Locke banner and continue stockpiling otherwise.

If Locke's job isn't "Treasure Hunter" I'll rip someone's lungs out.

"Relic" hunter, seeing as his theme song is played for the relic page

Ugh I feel like I'm hitting a wall with this game and I'll never be able to keep up with the new content rollouts (mainly the event cycle) while still grinding up the stuff I need. Stamina keeps getting in the way.

Falk

that puzzling face
Best get used to it now- on JP there's like a billion things going on at once and you'll never have stamina for EVERYTHING. You basically pick stuff at your level and go for those.

Also new content is like the wild west, and often you end up going into the easier modes with a bunch of debuff abilities just to see what bosses are immune to. No guide to begin with for obvious reasons.

Characters are virtually always obtainable though assuming you've been playing a reasonable amount of time. They're the low hanging fruit.

It's such a jarring change of pace when for several weeks it was easy to make progress so fast you'd outpace the content. I can't imagine this game being any fun if you're a new player who didn't get in from the very start.

Falk

that puzzling face
Yes and no. I was playing on JP casually up until the EN launch, then I switched because I decided I wanted to be as close to the forefront of content as possible, which is how I tackle games.

Both ways are equally enjoyable for different target markets.

Just like any decent MMO, there's catch-up mechanisms. You're not gonna be at the power level of people who have been playing for a long time, a few weeks after starting, but things do become much easier to get the further into the game's lifespan we go.

For example, in the first month a lot of the discussion was where the best places to farm 2* orbs of various types were (ANSWER IS ALWAYS IMPERIAL CAMP KK), and then they became pretty much common enough that you can hone 2nd ranks of 2* abilities without thinking twice about it. Up until Heroic dailies two updates ago, 3*s were much harder to come by and you had to ration and choose between breaks, for example. Down the line, many events outright award abilities, up to and including entire summons.

Essentially, one stam when the game launched isn't equal to one stam now isn't equal to one stam at the point where JP is currently at (in fact, they just got farmable 5*s last week). If you keep at it, you'll eventually come within throwing distance of decent progression regardless when you start.

In some ways I do regret switching over, since a big part of the reason I play games that get content updates is to figure out new content (which is the polar opposite of EN where every bit of information is pre-handed out on a silver platter) but eh, my gacha luck was terrible.

In terms of orbs I've managed to pick up all the summon orbs (1-4*) and the lesser power orbs from the Lenna event. I'm just farming magicite shards now while deciding what to get, it's probably going to be greater non elemental orbs.

I found greater earth orbs to drop quite frequently in the Mist Cave and while the drop rate isn't great, greater wind orbs from Mobliz are easy enough to farm if I really need them.

What's the record for fewest magicite after a battle?

22,000 Magicite and still deciding what to do with it. I'm probably going to hone Quake and then see if I want to aim the Major orbs.

Also anyone wanting Bladeblitz and only need Wind Orbs, my recommendation is since you're already constantly fighting the boss, you might as well hold off on buying them since you might get the drop off the boss and can save the magicite for other orbs.

Man I don't understand at all why some people are obsessed with always being on the forefront of new content to the point where they can't have fun with the game unless they're doing some super-new thing.

Personally that wasn't bothering me too much, though the way events expire (yeah I know they come back) makes me anxious to get as much out of them as I can while I can. I have found myself falling behind even on Classic dungeons though and have something like 20+ Elites left to do that I'm not sure I can even complete.

Encountered Motor Trap 4 times in a row. Feels good.
Currenty at 20 000 tokens. Once I hit 31500, I'll buy the greater orbs necessary to hone Quake. Then I'm back at farming the event to buy all Greater Summoning Orbs.
Yeah, it is going to take a while. That event needs an Heroic version.

The fewest is either 24 or 0, because there's no enemy that drops less than 24. Any guesses as to the most out of my ~600 run sample size?

I'm going to feel sad when I get 0 :(

Motor Trap drops 255, I think? So I'm guessing it's 765 (or whatever three times what Motor Trap drops is)

What's a good party? I'm rollING with tyro, cloud, rydia, aeris, kain.

Kain has no abilities, cloud rocking 2 double cuts, tyro can use magic but sucks at it.

Also I've been playing for a while and am at level 37, how do people have multiple lvl 50 parties?

Switching in a new character isn't appealing as it would take 2 months to get them to this lEvel.

Definitely get Jump for Kain, it's fairly strong and only he can use it so far. Blade Bash is another good one for him

Yea right after I posted that someone posted a screenshot on reddit of 765. Highest in my database is 582 though. Highest I've seen I think is 543.

The only character you're using that I'd say is specifically bad is Tyro. He's versatile but he's not good at anything. I'd switch him for another physical character if I were you.

Rydia can only use up to four star black magic, which isn't a problem right now, but if you think you'll want to use use higher level black magic later, you might want to switch to Terra or Rinoa sooner than later. (She's definitely good for summons, though.)

Honestly, aside from Tyro, you can pretty much use whoever you want in this game and have a good party as long as you have someone who is decent at black magic and someone to heal. Which you have.

I don't know what to tell you about not having a party of level 50 characters. :p Take advantage of synergy and run the Sunday EXP dungeon a lot, I guess. I think you might just not play this game as much as some of the rest of us. (Nothing wrong with that.)

Yeah, I would add that it's sometimes a combination of play time and stamina refills. I've been playing on a nearly daily basis since launch--I went whole hog on Flan grinding (used a handful of stamina refills) and about half of my characters range from levels 40-50. I also hand out Growth Eggs like damned farmer's market.

If you (Anustart) see posters on here or the FFRK subreddit showing off a full roster of 50s, they've likely run the heck out of EXP dailies/Flans and potentially used mythril or gems for extra stamina along the way. That being said, I think a party averaging level 40 is pretty solid. I wouldn't stress too much over levels otherwise.

Edit: LTTP but I finally created Bladeblitz and it is ultra sick nasty

I know you said you would rather not change characters but switch out Tyro, he's not great. Replace him with someone like Cecil, Wakka or Sephiroth. Rydia is okay but I would also replace her with either Rinoa or Terra. You could also put both in and have two amazing black mages.

People have multiple 50's because of Celes's event. There was a great way to grind exp for characters using the Flan trick.

I didn't really grind Flan much and I had a bunch of level 50's before that event even started.

But I play it a lot. And I really have put that EXP dungeon to work.

Also, it's worth noting that it really doesn't take very long to get a character to level 35+ if you already have a team of higher leveled characters to escort them through higher level dungeons. EXP or otherwise. Don't be afraid to switch your party members out if you'd rather use someone else. It's those last 10 or 15 levels that can take a while.

Anyone got tips for the Shiva sisters and Odin in FF13?
I just can't kill them in the time alloted. My team are tough enough in that the summons attacks don't do much damage to them, but the flipside is that my offense doesn't do much against them in return.

The armor break/retaliate/power boost/double cut combo should really be your go to if you need to damage things quickly

If they're not taking much damage, great. Focus entirely on offense, in that case. Break skills. Your strongest offensive skills and spells. Double Cut. -aga spells and Comet if you have them. If you're using a Healer, give them one healing spell and Dia or a black spell if they can use it. Go all out.

I'm suspecting the game has glitched two stamina shards from my account. I was doing an elite today and the date changed between a save/load and when I finished the dungeon I was supposed to level up, but I didn't. Maybe I was imagining my current stamina level.

Well, there's two ways to find out: 1) Go into each dungeon reward and count manually, which would take me approximately two years due to the horrible UI; 2) wait until I finish all content and see if I'm on the expected stamina level.

Changing subjects, I find growth eggs so horrible. Would never waste currency on them. Sunday XP is a billion times better and if you just got a character from an event, he/she will level up very fast on the event due to synergy.

I realized the whole point of growth eggs is to put your character near level-up so you can exploit the ability refresh in a difficult dungeon. =P

Retaliate

I actually beat Shiva sisters without it, using only the new chars (Lenna, Snow, Luneth, Warrior of Light and Gordon) on level 30-ish, with Double Cut + Boost + Power/Magic/Armor Break + Souls Breaks, but I had to sub in Sephiroth for Odin...

I still use tyro. He is a jack of all trades so he fits whatever I need pretty well. I'll probably use him until I get a good sword or another melee weapon, or edgar, whichever comes first. I even run kain and according to his stats he is merely average, but his soulbreak hits like a truck and heals himself. And jump is pretty good too.

The other three characters I am using are sephiroth, terra, and aerith which likely will not even change in the future much. At this point I intend to include sabin and/or edgar into the mix eventually, likely replacing tyro and kain. It also depends on what abilities they add to the game, cause I think those matter as much if not more than raw stats.

I don't use tyro now that he's level 50 for me, but considering he is one of the few characters that can use non sword weapons, ie spears, Katanas, he can be pretty handy for another rs weapon if your other users have hit the level cap.

Tyro could be very useful in the XIII event where he might be the only character capable of wielding a good XIII weapon and having retaliate.

I've found Tyro to be really valuable when I need to equip someone with a random ability or two in order to meet the mastery conditions for a dungeon.

I just got that mythical Greater Wind Orb drop from Liquid Flame. Strange but appreciated!

like in pokemon when you have those turd pokemon that you need to equip HMs on.

Pretty much

Edit: Started playing Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Edition today. A boss used bind on my party and I instinctively hit the Home button to S/L. Oh boy.

I find myself using Tyro whenever I use retaliate meta groups

Then I tried using his sentinel grimoire the past couple days, it gives him about 130 attack and 130 magic for me. So he doesn't do great damage, but becomes more better with his soul break. Still a sub in for retaliate group

Any character will hit like a truck if you have their 5 star weapon... Otherwise Kain would be rather sub par.

My primary party consists of Dark Cecil (combat), Cloud (spellblade), Tidus (support), Terra (black magic) and Aerith (heal/esuna).

I rarely need to swap members, and when I do, it is usually Terra for another melee hero.

I just need a better weapon for Tidus.
