In the middle of chapter 12, doing basically all of the sidequests and most of the minigames. I am starting to grow tired of some of the side activities, thankfully despite the sidequest onslaught that was dropped on me, it seems like things are finally winding down. I'm 100 hours in and just went on the sky wheel, and I can't imagine much more content before the logical ending sequence of the game.

Having returned to Gold Saucer and watched all of the dates, it's absurd just how many cutscenes and unique cinematics there are. The sheer amount of detail and content baffles my mind, how the hell this only took 4 years to create. The little details during the different dates all took effort to animate, plus how every line in the game (including background chatter that has a ridiculous amount of detail) is completely voice acted.

Edit: Btw, really excited to read through the spoiler thread after I'm done with this. Seems like my time spent taking a break with Helldivers 2 put me pretty far behind and most discussion seems to be wrapped up here. It's a shame, this has been one of the most fun and positive threads in recent memory.

This is how I felt during a lot of it. Even though FF as a series is known for it's high production values, it's still something you don't often see in the genre, so it kinda blew me away.

For sure, it's amazing how expressive and animated the characters are in and outside of cutscenes and the volume of it too. The synergy attack choreography is just ridiculous and next level.

Wow, chapter 11 was all kinds of awesome, with some tough scraps. It was fun getting to grips with Cait’s fighting style. 70 hours in total now.

Is there any way you can find out which enemies you have not scanned in a specific region?

Wanna level up the enemy skill materia but I'm stuck at 12/16 on grasslands without any idea of which enemies I forgot to scan.

Who in their right mind thought it was a great idea having players trying to beat a mindflayer first with two easy to destroy enemies laying around at the same time?

If you're talking about one of Chadley's challenges, I hear you. Not only that, those two enemies will suicide themselves as well. I gave up on doing it. Not worth the headache.

Yap exactly that one.

I ended up doing it by lowering the difficulty to easy and just taking Barret into the battle.

A lot of long range shooting and rolling but it's doable.

put both easy ennemies to sleep, focus on the mindflayer.

there is an easy solution for every battle, you just need to think

I can just about say I'm done with the game (for now) at 103 hours clocked! That's the most hours I've ever put into a single player game

All side quests done except for the last one in the Gold Saucer cos it was driving me crazy.

I finished up the game on the Protorelic quests and the climax to that and the final battle was pretty nuts . I wasn't expecting so many unique cutscenes tied to that side content and it basically felt like part of the main narrative in reflection.

I'll come back to it now and again to finish up the queens blood quests and will then replay the full game in Winter, hopefully enhanced on the Pro.

Final verdict: one of the best games I've ever played and probably the most love I've seen poured into a video game in recent memory. Give me part 3 asap. :messenger_grimmacing_

Finally made it to chapter 13, trying to finish up sidequests before the final push past the point of no return. But holy hell, what is going on with the difficulty spikes with some of this end game content? I am doing the UPA challenge and just finished up queens blood games (except for the higher ranked survival challenges, FUCK THAT) and things have been getting insane, only playing on Normal difficulty.

Its a shit battle but doable with Sleep on the little guys.

And you can set it on easy mode because there is no downside to this. Probably doable with one character this way too.

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
Have also finished it today. Came in at 130 hours.

I adored parts of it, was meh for parts of it and hated parts of it so it managed to hit every emotion I suppose which is what it wanted to do.

I did do some side stuff via chapter select on hard but genuinely don’t think I can be arsed to do another play through from the beginning on hard.

Playing the final boss and I'm pretty sure I hate everyone at Square Enix right now.

EDIT : Fuck it. I uninstalled. After a bullshit one hit kill from the final boss, I'm done with this thing. It's a little early but it's probably going to be my biggest disappointment of the year. I'm going to save the space on my PS5 ssd and play something that's actually fun. Fuck Nomura and co. they dropped the ball as far as I'm concerned. Whoever thought it was a good idea to force you to start from the VERY BEGINNING of the boss fight(which has several stages) after you die is an idiot. I'll just watch the ending on youtube.
I LIED. Reinstalled and beat it. :messenger_face_steam:

Overall, I think the game is pretty good. I'm just not in love with it like a lot of people are. There are some annoying parts in there for sure. There's a bunch of side stuff I didn't do so might come back to it later. There's too many games I have right now to play through.

This was basically my feelings as well.

Some parts were awesome, some okay, others terribly irritation.

Overall, I liked it by just mainlining the story.

I just came to post the opposite - that section throwing boxes as Cait Sith is one of the worst missions in an otherwise amazing game I've ever played. What a drag.

Opinions huh?

The enemies in that section were really difficult to fight as Cait alone, especially when there was more than one, so it took a bit a strategy, which I enjoyed. The actual box throwing parts were probably only a few minutes long in total, so not a big issue for me - if they removed a couple then I wouldn’t miss them. All in all though, I loved that chapter. Chapter 12 was awesome as well.

The only sections I haven’t enjoyed (in general) are the Chocobo stealth missions - they suck. The Chocobo races (Gold Saucer) were surprisingly fun though, and I have to admire the time spent on them by the devs.

finished at 101 hours. skip some of small amount of final side quest left because of minigames-fatique.

big attention toward minigames is great but it is too much and feels like an unnecessary bloat IMO. overall feels like some stuff unnecessary dragged off too long. some part like in dungeon can be quicker overall.

i hope the devs can find sweetspot of content length and minigames for part 3.

overall they achieve this kind of scale in mere 3-4 years is a feat. they better keep same team for next mainline after part 3 done.

also i dont care about card game. really dislike they force it on the ship. yeah in the tournament we can forfeit but it still should be optional and you still forced to play against Red 13 later.

Yup. Worst. At that point in the game… you are rounding third and the story is starting to pick up…. Then…: lol. Learn a dumb mechanic and a dungeon that goes on way to long.

Really irritated me

A good portion of the main game was great… but whew bogged down in a lot of places.

I'm at chapter 13 now and done everything i can do quest/side things. Going to start a hard playthrough after i am finished with the game. Not going to lie, i'm a bit scared for some parts of the game on hard mode. But as a trophy junkie i need to do it :)

ngl it is a hard one especially the brutal vr challenges. They're frustrating but satisfying also. I kinda mostly found playing through the chapters on hard really fun though, like a good challenge, mainly because you can retry a boss straight away unlike facing a vr gauntlet of 10 battles where u go back to the start when you fail. If you research and plan beforehand should be all good

Thx for your response, i think i have a couple of hours left on the main story then i'm going to start the hard playtrough.

There was a deliberate attempt by Square to force people to play all the characters. That was Cait's part.

Learning how to play with Cait wasn’t awful, but the box throwing mechanics were designed by some kind of masochistic fucktard. Same with the chocobo game in Nibleheim…and the constant party back and forth in the temple requiring materia swap outs was a total chore.

But overall, pretty minor gripes

i notice overall minigames mechanic in this game has smaller window of leeway. be it mechanic like cait sith's box throwing or even those minigames scattered around the world. this is some of my gripe. also certain part is dragged unnecessary longer. like cait sith's controlling section.

If any character was going to be a NPC like Red XIII in Remake, it should have been Cait Sith in Rebirth. He joins quite late, sticks with you for a few chapters including one painful one that forces you to use and learn the character, and then they take him away again until the very end of the game.

Man, that Odin fight was a real piece of work lol. Great challenge and I lucked the heck out beating him.
I had Bahamut as my summon and saved to use him towards the end of the fight. I got hit a bit too much for Odin's liking so he uses his basically one hit kill move on my team. I had Bahamut summoned by Yuffie and since she was dead, the game has Bahamut use its ultimate move and leave, which finished off Odin and I won the fight.

I was SOOOO worried that the fight was forfeit when Odin did his tomfoolery as I was this close to beating him.

Aerith was able to survive with Reprieve which is probably what prevented me losing.

Any tips on getting this game to look better in performance mode?
From memory I've read from some people setting the consoles native res to 1440p and slightly upping the TV's sharpening level can make it look a bit more crisp. There are also two performances mode and I think most consider one better than the other. Although I played the game in the quality mode without issue so someone else might be better placed to help you with more tips.

I had to look up if the Protorelic questline is worth it overall.

I know you get Gilgamesh as a summon once the questline is over. I decided to look up what that entails. Sweet Jesus : having to fight 2 summons at a time. Man...idk if I have the patience for this.
Also you onlook more fights in the vr. Brutal :D And the best weapon for cloud is obtained there.

I played the entire game on normal difficulty but will admit for these fights I knocked it down to easy... 🙈

I guess I will give it a try. Even if I have to turn down the difficulty to Easy. I'm split at: I already got to this point so I'm gonna do it and I really like this game, but I'm ready to finish it as well.

On easy you won't have a problem. Tips:

Against Odin just dodge a lot and take him out with special attacks.

Take out Phoenix first as it revives the other summon.

Gilgamesh on easy mode I did first time as regen on every party member helps a lot.

My question is this and not sure if I'm reading tips online overall correctly:

Odin's Gjallarhorn's Warning move: Is this because he has hit me, the controlling character, too much or if he hits CPU controlled players as well. Dodging worked great for me before I beat him, but I also had him use it when I was dodging alot but not hitting him enough. I.e., have to press on the attack and dodge.

I love this track from the reveal trailer and from the opening train segment with Sephiroth.

I'm not sure on the answer for that, but at least on easy difficulty I think the fight is a lot more forgiving.

Finally hunkered down and beat that Combat Simulator battle where you have to defeat the Mind Flayer first. Did it as Tifa and Yuffie. Those two just staggered that bitch and made him mince meat.

Wow the Two legs? Nothing to it Piano theme is incredibly hard for me.

The sudden changes of making most notes on left side instead of the right side completely fucks my brain 😂

Ooh.. Fort Condor is pretty hard. Even Normal with the difficulty reduction I still wasn't able to complete the final one without the clock running out. Had to drop all the way to Easy.
