Thinking about returning to the game and was wondering if the cd-key you get from the Steam version can be applied to an existing account to activate all the mini-expansions and Abyssea packs? Also, are PLDs useful at all for endgame stuff? Would love to play my TaruTaru PLD again D;

PLDS are useful to a point. They can still take a beating, The problem is that pretty much any DD job can tank now, and they can put out much more DMG than a PLD and hold up just as well.

Yes the cd key from steam can be applied to an existing account. Just act like you are registering one of the expansions you don't have and when it prompts for a key use the new one.

It's really awesome seeing so many people online at once in the LS now! And in the few weeks since I've started up again I managed to get high enough that I can actually be of some help to the new players. If anybody needs help getting their subjob items, unlocking advanced jobs, or doing any other quests feel free to let me know! Just /tell Beoulve
I'm nearing lvl 50 right now and I'm going to have to start doing those limit break quests to raise my level cap. I think I might be able to solo the items I need for the first limit break, but if somebody is willing to help me out with those drops in the near future, you'd make my life a lot easier.
And I can't wait to get my AF; BST AF is so badass! Though, one of the coffers that I need is in Garlaige Citadel. If I remember correctly there is a banishing gate there and you need 4 people to get past it. Is the banishing gate going to come into play when coffer/key hunting?

I'll be on regularly for a few hours at least from 9pm-12am PST, sometimes earlier as well as all Saturday. You might also see me managing some AH stuff mornings and during lunch.
One question I did have was how are regular exp parties these days? I've only done duoing Field of Valor stuff up to this point and was wondering if a good ole fashioned exp party still could compete or is even preferable for leveling.

Through soloing and duoing I've found leveling to go very quickly and haven't even bothered doing an exp party since I feel like it would take way longer to form up a party than it would for me to level on my own. But I do think if you manage to get into/start an exp party, it'll probably be pretty good and fast exp. I've been going BST/WHM at the moment, still haven't gotten around to unlocking DNC. But yesterday I was soloing in Crawler's Nest and getting quick exp. To give you the run down of the exp I was getting from lvl 43-45...Alchemy said:

Fields of Valor book - page 1 - Kill 3 crawlers and 3 wasps (Each kill was giving me 380exp).
By the time I killed all 6, that was 2,280 exp + 1,070ish from completing the page. So for killing 6 mobs, I got about 3300 exp.
So I would level about every 2 1/2 pages. I wasn't keeping track of how long that took me exactly, but I would say maybe 30-40 min a level.
Also, every enemy was checking as DC. So I wasn't exp chaining at this point (I should've moved elsewhere to fight some even matches or toughs, but I was hoping to get a silk thread drops). But when I was solo exping in Qufim some levels back, I would be getting exp chains (with the novennial ring on) for about 580exp a kill. So pair that exp with whatever bonus exp the FoV book pages were giving me, and I was leveling fairly quickly with little trouble.
Novennial ring aside, solo exp as BST feels much faster than it was back in the FFXI of 6-7ish years ago (or whenever it was I quit back in the day). Back then I took BST up to lvl 69, and it feels much faster now. One huge improvement over the BST of yesteryear is the adjustments to pet exp penalty. You can have an (Even Match) pet and kill an enemy for full exp now. Since there is no penalty having a charmed EM pet when the enemy dies, you don't have to worry about using the "leave" command and finishing off the enemy on your own. It may not sond like a huge change, but it takes away a lot of the danger that I used to face when soloing as BST.
I do plan on unlocking DNC and switching over to BST/DNC since it sounds like it'll be an epic job combo.

If you need any help unlocking BST let me know. I'm in California, so I'm usually playing around the same time PST that you mentioned earlier. I can cast sneak/invis and escort you to make life easier. There is a goblin bounty hunter now in addition to the kraken that guards the night flowers you need in Qufim for BST quest. I didn't anticipate this when I did the quest recently and the goblin strolled along and attacked me after I took invisible off and got the flower, resulting in sneak dropping and the kraken joining in on the gangbang (but hey, at least I got back to Jeuno quicker)

A few hours probably, just use your exp ring and the FoV books. Maybe longer depending on your job and if you're talking no subjob. I was duoing with Hoborg last weekend and he went from lvl 10 SAM to 25 in 4 hours (I was level synced so I don't remember my exact level gain).Dechaios said:

Unlocked DNC yesterday and it seems pretty cool so far. Drain Samba + Regen = I'm pretty much always at full HP. I can't wait til it's leveled high enough to start subbing it for my BST.

It took about 6 Ghouls before another one dropped. So it wasn't bad at all, now I've got to turn all the subjob items in so that I can get access to Aht Urghan
