Does the "Member Name" not matter with log in? And the playonline ID is the four letter, four number log in right? Just having a hard time logging in now.

Ugh, one last question and I'll be out of everyone's hear. Where the hell do I put in my code for the hat item? I'm going nuts.

Square Enix Account Management. Select FFXI and click "Add a Service Account." You need a character already created.

-siiiiiiiigh- Minor updates but done. Just need to get the character created, get code in and I'm game. Holy fuck what a painful process this has been.

Truth. I've been doing the install and update since 3 this afternoon. Still not done. Guess i'll be joining everyone tomorrow.

Do what I did. Scour the internet for the updates and download it by torrent. Much faster than downloading through PlayOnline >.<;

Oh, fuck me...
I don't remember my password. I changed it just before I quit, when I added an authenticator to my account. At least I can find that. :/

I did that and still with like an hour update. S'all good. Give me time to fix some dinner and bleh while it goes. So Slyph server eh? Everyone else new here going that way? I look forward to some grouping action.

Are the story elements to the game soloable now or do you still need a group?

They required a group last time I played. They're probably soloable now :P

Yay level 10 Warrior.

OK, I remembered the first password that the 360 version asked for.
But then it just told me that I need to set up a Square Enix account before it will let me continue and kicked me out.
I already have a Square Enix ID linked to that Playonline ID so WTF?

I'm sure the later levels will need groups. Ah that does remind me to get Windower. What are the best plug ins people are using these days?

A lot of the popular plugins are included with the latest version and are on by default. The GUI version will also allow you to customize the graphics a little without having to deal with the registry. This page is a good place to read about and download any plugins that might interest you.

Nice!

Nothing like a Galka WAR wearing nothing but underwear a Great Axe.

I can hear the Bastok and South Gustaberg music playing in my head when I look at those pictures. Keep an eye out for Leaping Lizzy ;)

Just logged into Sylph as panamachief. I'll be in windhurst...unless there's a better place for a BLM to start.

OK, I remembered all of my info.
But then it was still telling me that I need a Square Enix account... even though I'd entered my Square Enix ID and Square Enix Password in the Settings.
So I went to the customer service site... and they'd broken the link between my Playonline info and my Square Enix info.
Seriously WTF, SE :mad
My character is being transferred right now. I paid with Crysta that I thought I'd use for FFXIV, lol. (as if I'd pay a monthly fee for that mess)

Windurst is not the best of places to start. Mobs outside can sleep you, making exping early slow. You also have to take a boat to Valkrum Dunes, where the majority of 10-20 exp happens.

My advice is San d'Oria as it has the least amount of walking, and everything is much more convenient.

My character is Mithra and long after capping out, I made Windurst my home, but I'm glad I starting in Sandoria, it's a far more noob friendly area. I'd say it's worth forgoing that starting city item you get by starting in your races home city to start in Sandoria.

SE: "Wise fwom your gwaaaave."

That's not really the case any more though.

I'd say start wherever you want, but Windurst is infamously hard to navigate. Bastok will always be my personal favorite, but objectively I think San d'Oria is probably laid out best.

I'm not sure that it's worth thinking about, honestly. I would just hop into the nation where your race belongs or whichever place looks most interesting.

Windurst is great once you can remember where the 4 warp taru's are. Though, once you get into voidwatch, Windurst has by far the least convenient Voidwatch NPCs.

I remember the first time I realized those guys existed. I never got to a point where I messed with all four, but realizing that the dude in Windurst Waters would warp you to Windurst Woods was awesome after playing for like 4 years lol.

Wish there was more people doing parties at low levels. All the people looking for parties are 99+

Wish there was more people in general. :\

The FFXI you remember isn't the same. You have to level a different way.

1-12 is solo leveling. 12-30 is partying Gusgen Mines entrance leveling with the Book (Fields of Valor). 30-50 is Crawlers Nest Book Fields of Valor.

You should probably get someone in the GAF linkshell to escort you to the Gusgen Mines.

...I did not know this.

There just aren't a whole lot of players in general it seems. Bastok is a ghost town. :\

Where are the Gusgen Mines at? Nevermind. I remember now.

Well, I'm not to sure on the population on Sylph. Asura has usually has people in the main towns. Although, people hang out in Jeuno in FFXI. If you go to Jeuno, you'll see tons of people.

You mind typing "/sea all" in-game and telling me how many players are currently on?

Also to get to Gusgen Mines, you have some walking to do.

West Ronfaure -> La Thiene Plateau -> Valkurm Dunes -> Konschat Highlands -> Gusgen Mines.

Go here http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/West_Ronfaure and click the links in that order and take a look at the maps.

Well, the starting towns are pretty abandoned but that's not necessarily indicative of how many people are playing.

There aren't many new players, and there's not really any reason to be in the starting towns. You might notice that they linked all of the auction houses in order to help persuade people to move away from Port Jeuno a bit- which is where they all are.

When I stopped playing, it was typically everyone hanging out in Port Jeuno and all of the Japanese players hanging out in Whitegate.

Jueno is the standard home point for almost everyone. Though with Voidwatch making warping anywhere is pretty easy. Jeuno still tends to be the home point becasue of easy access to magian moogles for magian weapon trials, and player bazaars are usually located in Jueno.

I started in Bastok, and I remember where the mines are at now. Already in the Konschat Highlands for the tutorial quest, so I'll check it out as I level.

A "/sea all" shows 1208 people online, btw.

I distinctively remember why I was leaning towards healing once I got subjobs: waiting around to heal in this game manually takes forever.
