FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 |OT| Change the Future

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Japanese girls only wear high-heels. That's what you tend to look like when you run with heels on.
brb, gonna try!

edit: yep, you were right!

Since you can buy weapons, does the model show up? All the screens and videos only show that same one Noel starts with? I don't know the name, some flaming looking sword with a wooden dagger looking thing.

The bigger turtles right? I'd fight them but my only strategy is to keep hoping Death kills them =P
Ah what the hey: I'll go fight one in my next grinding session and see if I get an Ignot~
You talking about the Guis? Don't bother spamming Death because it's not going to work. Death works on the 'Toises, but even then you'll have to wait, and it's much faster to use a Fang/Snow (backup Defender)/Vanille party to get rid of it. Personally, I find the Death tactic inefficient and utterly boring. Fighting them head-on is far better, but when you start grinding for Ingots, Dark Matters, Traps and Gold Nuggets and using the same tactics (depending on the party) repeatedly for hours on end, it gets boring.

I hate those turtles. I never want to see one of those again. (Oh wait... :/)

I was hoping for the older, classic equipment shop system. Don't wanna deal too much about customizing weapons (armors on the other hand, I can deal with) :p
Yup. I loathed the upgrade system in FFXIII. It's cumbersome (especially getting certain materials because the drop rate in this game is so random/sucks), but also because they keep a lot of the number stuff hidden from the player (EXP to next level, what's the maximum level to plot out how many of each component you're going to end up needing, experience after multipliers are applied, etc.).

Essentially it was:
-Dump all the crappy items like Oozes and Bones into weapons to increase the multiplier.
-Use the multiplier to make the good items synthetic items like URs and SCs provide even more XP.
-Do this again and again and again and again. :/

I'd like to be able to customize armours, though.

Nobody know?

Anyways, listened to some of the samples on their soundtrack page, sounds pretty good. They sure do love their vocals though. :)

Bad memories seeing you guys post about turtles. I'm not even going to attempt a platinum on 13-2 even though I got it for 13.

Come January I'mma boot up FFXIII again and do another run. Get all the characters and the story thus far fresh in my mind.

Gonna go for the plat too.

Killing them was easy part. The drop rate was worse than some MMOs.
Drop rate was horrible. I had more luck getting Guis to drop stuff than the 'Toises, which surprised me since the Guis are more fun (ie: more difficult because their attack pattern were sometimes unpredictable) to fight than the 'Toises.

Yeah, the trophies for this game seem more forgiving than FFXIII's, but I doubt they're going to let us off easy for at least one or two of them... I imagine that it might be the (obvious trophy spoilers here)
see all endings trophy, the become allies with the most hostile monster trophy and maybe the casino tokens trophy.

Japanese Opening Cinema up on Gametrailers... not watching though ._.

It's always good to have that one complete crazy-person objective in the list to remind people that they don't have to get the platinum.

I have the platinum. Does that make me crazy now? I guess so. :D Droprate on those Adamants was abysmal and cost me hours. Well I got my podcasts going and I still remember that grinding time as one of the most chilled out experiences of recent times.

Let's do this again for XIII-2. Don't give a damn about the story, just give me some cool enemy designs and encounters and your boy is happy.

LOL, I recall my plat run driving me nuts and putting me in a sour mood for a fortnight! If only the PS3 version of FFXIII had custom soundtracks... I ended up muting the TV and then played other music and few of the Giant Bombcasts during my Plat run since I couldn't stand Blinded by Light anymore, lol.

I hope the game has a hard mode a la Tales's Chaos/Unknown difficulties, tbh. Last time I checked, the only difficulties for this were Easy and Normal... unless they confirmed harder difficulties.

13-2's trophies aren't that irritating as 13's. For one thing, there is no trophy for getting all 100+ equipment in the game~

Also, I still call Santa Caius avatar!

Hope this game doesn't require more than one playthrough to get the platinum.

Me too. I don't mind if I have to do a ton of side quests, but since they've been emphasizing the multiple dialog options, I have a feeling we're going to have to play through more than once :(

Did you look at the trophy list yet? Cuz...

Based on ...two... of the trophies, it seems like it does. Though it seems like a remedy for this could be multiple saves.

See the problem I always have with that
option is that I hate having a crap ton of saves. I mean, I COULD have a few saves where I just make sure I'm at a spot where I could get to the section needed in order to get that specific trophy/make a decision, but that would require looking at a guide, which I would want to avoid on my first playthrough.

How does it branch out? Like there are two endings? Maybe someone can make a FAQs for the JP version or indicate at what point does the game branch out for those trophies. :p

Trophy spoilers:
There's a trophy for "Witness every Paradox ending" and a trophy for "Get the True Ending". There don't seem to be separate trophies for all the endings themselves based on the list out there. There'll probably be a FAQ eventually. It's a Final Fantasy game. There are always going to be early FAQs.

I'd like to see how this would work firsthand with a Japanese copy but I'm not importing this time around. I wonder if the trophy lists are going to be shared again, though. Going through part of my English playthrough without hearing a "ding!" per chapter was weird, lol.

I know what you mean...
It isn't until recently that I've embraced the idea of having multiple saves, but part of me just doesn't like them taking up space, or I might save over the wrong one. I do hope that the game clearly lets the player know when an important decision is coming up, like Radiant Historia does... or perhaps allow you to see the question but decline answering it until you're ready to answer it. I dislike using FAQs on first playthroughs too.

I can back this up. Overall it took me 40 hours or so grinding to get everything I needed. I got killing an Adamantoise down to around 2 minutes or so. When it came time for the Long Gui's I got all the black holes I needed in like 5 or 6 gos it was ridiculous. I hated fighting those suckers because as soon as they Quake, you're fucked.

When they use Quake or Ultima, go into the Tri-Defender Optima to reduce party damage. When they use Bay, you're fucked if you don't go into Tri-Defender immediately/don't have adequate accessories to survive.

The trick is to find someone who can stun them so they don't attack while you attack (ie: Sazh) and make a quick timing judgement between attacks and Sazh/Snow dazing the target. The Shaolong Guis become really easy as a result. Don't bother fighting those other ones walking around for materials unless you get bored fighting the easier Guis.

I wasn't in love with every single track, but I thought that was pretty great. Really interested in picking up the soundtrack now.

Looks like they're doing another one of these on the 27th.

Any ideas what the final boss track is on the OST?

edit: just heard the chocobo theme. Yeah I dunno what to say about that at all.

I would post in the XIII OT about this, but its closed. What is the easiest way to take down the tower boss? I'm guessing a SEN is necessary to make its powerful abilities less hurt? It's been ages since I last played, so I really don't remember. :p

In order for me to have combat clinic, I have to use hope, snow and lightning. My only SEN's are snow and fang. Saszh is the only one with haste. Would make the battle easier I think.

Start with... uh... forgive me if I'm using the JP names, but it's been a hell of a long time since I beat this boss. SENs always reduce damage inflicted to the party, yes. Always include one to guard against heavier attacks.

I would recommend using the easy team of Light/Hope/Fang for an easier go of this. You don't need Sazh for this particular boss since what you should be doing is paying attention to the attack notifications (ie: if he's going to use an attack and it says up top that he's going to use an attack, switch to HLR/HLR/DEF pronto). Actually, you get quite used to doing this when you're doing missions or fighting the Guis, I've noticed.

Make sure Lightning has Dispelga. Whenever he uses that attack that inflicts a lot of status effects on your party (it's been a year and I don't remember the name exactly), use Dispelga. If you don't have Dispelga, switch to HLR/HLR/DEF, I guess. Better to use Dispelga. In fact, you can use Dispelga whenever it uses buffs on itself, but it's best to use a Jammer to counter those particular buffs, I think (especially if you want to conserve TP).

Your Optima should be set up in this order:
Attacker/Blaster/Defender (default Optima to begin staggering)
Healer/Healer/Defender (switch to this when he's using heavier attacks like that Firestorm attack or that attack with "Breaker" in the name)
Blaster/Blaster/Attacker (stagger the enemy faster whenever he's using lesser attacks or when you're done healing up)
Attacker/Healer/Defender (switch to this whenever you feel like you need to maintain the break gauge but you still need to heal)
Attacker/Healer/Jammer (for Fang to inflict Deprotect, Imperil and Slow on it)
Healer/Enhancer/Jammer (if the above doesn't work or you want to buff)

The boss isn't really that difficult. At least compared to the end-chapter boss (which was really fun to fight at that point, I admit). I used Hope as my default party leader most of the time in Chapter 11, so I equipped him with a few HP/Stat-enhancing accessories for him to have a better chance of surviving.

Thanks. I shall use your strategies and see how it goes. :p Maybe I'll grind more CP, though I think I'm pretty close to maxing level 3 roles.
