FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 |OT| Change the Future

Is there a reason to level anything other than COM for Noel and RAV for Serah? I'm worried that I'm wasting points and nodes leveling up SEN and MED. Aren't there enough monsters out there that will take care of the SEN, MED, SAB, and SYN roles?

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
20+ hours in(Monster recruiting on the Steppe) and I am pretty mixed on the game so far. I do agree that all the extra fluff makes the game feel more engaging than XIII, but I still can't get past just how awful the characters, world, and narrative are. FFX-2 was pretty similar in that sense as I enjoyed the combat and character progression but hated damn near everything else.

I'm definitely more invested in achievement hunting than actually witnessing what the game flow delivers in any real capacity. Also taking down the toughest endgame optional encounters.

Not looking forward to the casino stuff when I reach it given the previous comments these last few pages. :/

yeah you should level there other abilities too and keep the main abilities on the larger nodes. if you make serah a good sab and noel a good synergist then you won't have to have monsters to do those jobs, and since you can only have 3 monsters in a pack it seems like it'd be more worthwhile to have a med/rav/com monster group.

My housemate got this today and has been playing for 14 hours straight (and counting).

i think earlier today i played at least 7 hours straight T_T. i never do this sort of thing and can usually only play an hour of a game before i have to put it down to take a break or something. just something about this game and even 13-1 where imo the battle system is just really engaging and fun.

the person who does the voice work for the time traveler guy, I swear I've heard that voice in other games

i thought the same thing so i looked him up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Marsden#Filmography_and_television
i'm guessing i remember him from Spirited Away but he's been in a lot of stuff.

I'm an expert

Formerly worldrevolution. The only reason I am nice to anyone else is to avoid being banned.
Ugh..thought the used prices would have bottomed out by now but still around 5k yen. New from Amazon is like 4400. In the mood for this after reading all the great comments in here but still not feeling the price.

Aha, I knew he sounded like Haku.

This is my perspective on it. More interested in the trophy hunting than anything else... also trying to get through this game with two characters feels good.

I don't care at all about trophies, but I'm having a good time just wandering wherever I end up, even if I'm somewhere too early, and picking up monsters and items and doing sidequests. Not that I think the story is particularly uninteresting, I just think it's more of a backdrop for the game, rather than a focus, which suits me fine. It's the same thing in a lot of other games I like, too.

I can't help but to feel like the ease of the battles and nerfing of certain roles has made me feel a little bored with the game in general, though... and thus attempting the trophies (most of which you'll get by 100%ing the game and doing all the sidequests anyway, so you aren't really doing much to get the trophies) is probably my solution to trying to make the game fun for me.

Perhaps I'll feel differently by the end of it all, but that's my perspective of it now. :/

Like I said before, I do like parts of it like Noel, going wherever I want whenever I want, and doing some of the sidequests, though.

Oh man I really love the music in
A Dying World 700AF and Archylte Steppe area. Especially in A Dying World where the place feels so lonely with white deserts and red sky (reminds me of Bleach manga/anime, where the Espadas live) and when the sad music kicks in i was like T.T

The name of the music is 忘れ去られし都 btw, if those that want to know.

So I been doing really well for the clock stopper trophy. I died against one enemy and had to retry, that doesn't reset the counter does it? I also to retry a few times against some enemies, that's okay right?

Do this instead. Saves you misery, and it takes WAY less time. I've tested it on my Japanese account, and Cheska validated it.

I'll just quote it:
Figured I would post an update on this. It totally work and I was able to get the Clock Stopper trophy. Easiest way to do it is to keep a tally, which I did in the form of 1-10 times ten rows. So:

12345678910
12345678910
etc

It's literally easy as pie, as you are brought back to the mog clock as soon as you press retry. Just preemptively strike->wait for the attack and "preemptive strike" to flash on sceen->press start and retry.

It's much more enjoyable if you play some music as it makes the times go by faster. I'm a little surprised that it's only a bronze trophy though :(

For a reference, I did this in
Oerba
after the Caius fight.
Thanks for confirming, Cheska! Good work. Yeah, I would've thought it'd amount to a Silver. Ah well, lol.

So to anyone else attempting the Clock Stopper trophy, forget about doing it legit. The method described (ie: get a pre-emptive strike, then let the characters hit the enemies to boost the gauge, then select retry, and complete the process over again 100 times since you're always brought back to the Mog Clock screen) completely works! It doesn't take long, and it's way easier than doing it legitimately, so keep that in mind.

Ugh I think my progress is completely fucked. I didn't understand the crystalium or whatever until I read this thread. I'm getting my ass handed to me by
Cauis when you first meet Yuel...on fucking easy. I swear FFXIII was way easier than this; and people say FFXIII-2 is the easier of the two? ugh. I don't feel like grinding either shit would take me forever. I think I'm done with the game.

Hmmm... well I suppose that was totally pointless. I just beat
Geiseric in Academia
. I used all my phoenix downs, and the fight got me nothing at all. Suppose I should reset and just do that fight later when I can do it better.

Academia has the worst enemy spawn rates I have ever seen in a FF game. Luckily, I grinding out a shit load of levels on the way to the end!

Finally started playing this today and I'm actually really enjoying it. It is more engaging than 13 gameplay wise and storywise, it's kind of charming in its stupidity (in the way you pat a dumb kid on its head).

My mom watched me play for a bit today and she thought it was hilarious haha. She was really into the Live Triggers and all "OH WHO'S SNOW MAKE THAT CHOICE". But then she left all "not gonna lie, I don't give a shit about Miss Serah Farron" haha. She liked the graphics and music though and even though she ~didn't give a shit~, she asked me a couple hours later how Serah was doing haha.

It was pretty bad. I haven't spent the CP I got from there or
Augusta Tower
yet because I was trying to stop grinding for now and just finish off the story.

This is kind of a dumb question, but how do you figure out what episode you are on? The game is so non-linear I have no idea where I am episode-count wise.

So I bought the Chaos Crystal and gave it to Alyssa and Hope and now I don't know where to pick up the weapon. There is only one receptionist and she just ells me where to get Graviton Cores. Is there supposed to be another receptionist at the front or what?

Did they tell you to talk to the lady in front? If not, you might have to actually hand in the cores first, then keep on talking to Hope until he says that the weapon will be waiting for you with the lady

Phew, 6 hours marathon today. My eyes hurt. Man, the game opens up a ton once you get more gate artifacts, specifically after the
Snow vs Flan
part. Im so overwhelmed jumping from time period to time period that Im afraid Im gonna miss something.

Arrived at Academia and holy crap....so gorgeous.

With all this jumping around though, I wish there was a home base i could go back to and kick back....

I'm stuck at 99% map completion on Archlyte Steppe, I have the Yomi spot filled but missing something else, is there any other spot like that I might be overlooking? Wish I could just take a pic and post it, would probably be easier...

Check north of the Long Gui/Cactaur statue; there might be a small spot along the walls where the trench is.

Well it was definitely a trench, was against a wall south of that cactuar statue. Thanks though! Been running around aimlessly there for a little bit.

Episode 2 done. Mostly stuff I already played at NYCC, so not much else to say. This game is seriously easy in battle, but that doesn't mean I'm not spending a ton of time managing stuff in the menus. So fun.

Question about monster abilities that you can pass on to others:

Do both monsters have to be the same job role to pass an ability?

Question for you guys farther into the game:
I just beat Atlas in 5AF and went back to get the hidden fragment in 3AF. When I got back Gadot said that I looked tired and should come home. Should I? Is there any reason to go back (story related) or can I just go back to 5AF and continue on?

Trying to get the silver chocobo now since I need a sentinel for the final boss apparently and I have gotten no sens in the whole game :(

Games been great although the story is a bit short. I've enjoyed the story quite a bit, the soundtrack is solid and while there is some hit and misses (ie I like the battle theme but blinded by light is so much better imo), it's one of the best soundtracks yet.

Battle system is good, the monster stuff has been fun and as a whole, the game is much better than FFXIII. It's been a lot of fun :D

for passive abilities, no. But for role 'active' abilities yeah. Not every ability can passed on though, it depends on the level of the monster you're trying to give the ability.

Just beat the final boss... I have to say, while the game was stupidly easy for the most part, I was pretty happy with that final boss. It was quite good.

This is such a great combo to pull off once a boss is staggered:

Multi-cast, Ultima Arrow, Paradigm shift to Cerberus, Kweh, Change Leader, Noel's something something Javelin move.

No comment on the quality of the game, but I just have to comment on the FF13-2 commerical I saw since it was just SOOO bad. Holy crap, was that bad. Cheesy, bad music, bad VAs and bad voice acting. Yikes! I can't imagine that getting the game more sales

Again, no comment on the game since I havent played it
