FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 |OT| Change the Future

It all makes perfect sense until you get to the end of the game I think, anyway.
Huge ending spoilers:
What I don't get is, shouldn't Noel have known letting Caius die would cause that to happen? Why didn't he take the power of the guardian instead? Also, Lightning would never "admit defeat" as the datalog says, and enter a self-induced crystal sleep... that part is just BS. She says right before this all happens in New Bodhum 700 AF "I will never stop fighting" and the game just expects me to believe she gave up? Thirdly, is there some other way to kill the goddess, or was it Caius's plan all along to be killed by Noel? Would Caius have never succeeded if Noel and Serah did nothing?

Questions for the first piece of story DLC? As for Lightning, I think either Etro did it for some reason or Lightning got defeated rather than give up. In any case, I am positive, the first piece of Lightning story DLC, will clear that up.

Caius wanted Noel to kill him but Noel refused so Caius did it himself using Noel. In the end, Caius is the cause of it rather than Noel. Well, at least that is what I gathered

Caius might have done the Cocoon thing regardless as shown in the Oracle drive but that may have just been a back-up plan had Caius not gotten Noel to kill him/had Noel been defeated before hand

What I really want to know though is where is Snow? How did Sazh and his son get to the future? and how will Lightning fix all this... if she can in this next piece of story DLC? And if she does and the paradoxes are fixed, will Noels future cease to be meaning he will also cease to be and will Serah be revived?

The story made sense, at the end, it just left you with asking questions which is meant to make you want the story DLC to see if it answers those questions.

Lots of spoilers talking about the ending... lovely.

Noel didn't inherit the power because he had a strong will. If he hadn't had one he would have inherited the power as seen in one of the paradox endings, or so one of the fragments says. And it was Caius's plan all along going by the secret ending.

I guess that paradox ending is Cauis versus Noel on his own? Not gotten that one yet and won't til the weekend probably. Same with the secret ending so my stuff above was based on the normal ending itself

To be fair, I haven't played Episode 6 yet. But I did like The 3rd Birthday's ending so I'm not really worried...

Time travel stories are bound to have some plot holes anyway, it's not something that really bothers me. I just watched the Series 1 through 5 of Doctor Who. I thought it was brilliant, but it DID have some plot holes. It just goes with the genre IMO.

Yay. Kinda lame that the platinum icon is the same as XIII's. It was a fun platinum though (except for the casino part).

Hi, a question to those who have finished the game: Does it get more challenging later on?
I've only played 3 hours and it's too easy so far.

One thing I loved about XIII was that they finally put a few challenging and strategic battles in the game, in stark contrast to the older FF titles, where the only difficulty was having good stats. In XIII stats mean nothing for the story and very little for the optional stuff, it's all about strategy - I beat every enemy including the last mission without upgrading a single weapon or accessory and without maxing out my characters. I loved that part of the game, the battle system saved it for me because otherwise it was pretty disappointing, so I hope XIII-2 isn't dumbed down in that regard.

Alright, so what's the trick to the Serendipity trophy? I earned about 7000 coins on the races, then had to retrieve my chocobo. Now I've earned about 4000, but no trophy so far. Please don' tell me you have to earn 10000 in one career.

Edit: Never mind, I apparently had to exit the chocobo screen before it unlocks.

If you're used to XIII's battle system, then the entire game will be a breeze. The hard stuff are found on the side quests and post-game content.

Is there anything you can't do after you finish the main quest in terms of side stuff? I'm near the end, but I don't want to rush ahead if I'll cut my possible content down.

You guys think this story is actually confusing? How so? Everything is pretty well explained throughout the game...
It's not confusing.

It's silly.

Booooooooo! Curse you, Hell Week! *kicks rock* I can't get anything done for the plat/fragments yet cuz I'm busy.

Congrats, Ultros. :D 56 hours certainly doesn't seem like a lot. Too bad the trophy icon for the plat is the same as FFXIII's. They couldn't come up with anything different, eh?

You have homework/work or something Schala? Sucks that you can't plat it... -_-'''

Also, I agree with Schala, the story is not confusing at all. There's a difference between convoluted plot and complicated. This is the former.

Well, that sucks. Then I hope that there are at least some harder optional fights and that I can find the other aspects of the game more enjoyable.
But I remember reading that Square patched a new difficulty mode into XIII after many people complained, so maybe if there are enough complaints about XIII-2 being too easy, they'll make a hard mode available for download =)

I have two problems with the platinum... the icon is the same, and it's a hidden trophy. Why would a platinum be hidden? That's retarded. So, it won't show up on Facebook when I get it, it'll just say "hidden trophy". -_-

Actually, I was thinking if I should avatar bet with you but since I felt nice this week, I didn't ask anymore. :D

Nice job. The game is definitely easier to get 100%.

Definitely... Though the hardest trophies are Serendipity and the Defragmented one (because the side boss battle involving
only Serah and the monsters vs. Caius + Grand Cross ON
was incredibly difficult). But at least it's not Treasure Hunter level (I got like 3 traps for 12 hours straight last 2 years ago).

Hahahah, that sort of does suck. The reward for Platinum is soooo not worth it.

I definitely remember the trap thing. Ugh. If I remember correctly there was a glitch and I didn't have to farm all the traps. I would use it then reload the save file with the Trap and it counted towards it. Saved me extra hours. Still a pain to get the 100% though.

Complete a C program + documentations, thesis, and business reports within the week. But hey, games > school.

Both school and work. Luckily I was given time off from research to get stuff done this week. -_-

I should launch into trophy/Fragment/Enemy hunting around Friday, though.

I can't recall, but was FFXIII's plat hidden like that too? I know I've played a few games with the plat hidden. It's been a while since I got XIII's plat so I can't remember if it was hidden or not.

Yeah. Probably replace it with Sarah/Lymle from SO4 or some avatar saying Suikoden is Dead. :p

So, where do I go about farming stuff for my monsters? Seems like the ones I've been using most of the game can't level up anymore. I'd like to get my level 19 Silver chocobo some, but I never seem to have any items for him. Same thing for my level 45 yellow chocobo.

If you lost, your avatar would've probably been one of Luca Blight or that kid from Tierkreis, with "Suikoden II is horrible" or "Tierkreis is the best Suikoden" captioned in it.

Given the relative ease of the trophies in this game, they probably learned from how stupid that trophy was since the drop rate in FFXIII was horrible. I got most of my money from farming Guis, not farming Adamantoises.

I ended up getting more Dark Matters to drop than Traps in the end. :|

A glitch? How'd that work? Was the game still counting the weapons even though they weren't saved to your file?

I ended up creating a separate file, dismantling Vanille's weapon to get the extra traps, and synthesized the ultimate weapons and a few accessories with the ingredients I got from that.

The marsh area in Archylte Steppe is great for this(in any weather that isn't stormy... sunny and cloudy are probably best, I'm not sure about rain). You'll get essence drops of every kind, and even some crystals. You'll get a lot of mana essences, which you probably don't want, but you can just sell those to chocolina and buy the essences you actually want. Equip the collector's catalog if you have it - or even better, the durable collector's catalog - and you'll get lots of gil. I have almost 400k gil after I did that for a few hours. Lots of Royal Armlets and Entite Rings will drop as well, which sell for 3,300 gil each.

FFXIII-2 was my first platinum. The gamer/achievement whore in me felt so happy when I got it on Sunday. If I can do it so can you :D.
And re: post above. You can get the collector's catalog from winning chocobo races, as well as many other rare accessories and adornments.

Dark Matters were pretty easy to get actually, it's just that the Shaolong Guis are very hard to kill. It took me 10 mins to get all the DMs that I've needed.

Anyway, I plan on writing a review since I've uncovered everything except Omega plus trophy reviews.

Guess I should do my school work well when I wake up. Hope I can still graduate with honors. :|

Cloudy and sunny probably work best, rain is probably okay, too, but you'll just get lots of Cie'th if it's stormy, so don't do that.

Unfortunately, the only way I know of to get a collector's catalog is as a prize from a fal'cie class chocobo race... once you have that you can get Chocolina to craft the durable collector's catalog for you. It takes up all 100 of your accessory capacity but it is worth it

Going to retry Yomi again with desus's tips. Then I have to fight the giant turtle thing. :( Not looking forward to that.

I recommend maxing everyone's roles when trying to beat Long Gui.

Also what I didnt ask you before, how far are you in the game anyway? I mean maybe your characters are just too weak and youre attempting Yomi way too early?

Rainy will get you the most Potent Essences (level 4 material) and Crystals (level 5) which are the hardest to find. The
western desert section in Dying World 700AF
gets you a ton of potent level 3s and the
crystal pillar (north) section of Sunleth 300AF
gets you a bunch of potent level 2s. Those are what I've been using to farm.

Also, definitely worth it to pick up the Collector Catalog from chocobo racing, and upgrade it if you can (at Chocolina in Archylte).

I've beaten the game. I've did Ochu and Immortal. My Noel and Serah have over 5k HP. I just think my pendigrams are wrong. Maybe I need new monsters. I always use this cloudburst, silver chocobo for my sen and yellow chocobo for another com. About racing my chocobo. He was winning a few, but now he seems to lose every one he races in. Haha.

I just finished the game and seen the ending... maybe because I was prepared all along but, what's so bad about this? It's also what I expected considered the story before that, I mean only Noel and Serah
could forget what was Caius' plan from the beginning
. I really don't get the complains. It's long, beautiful, makes sense and anticipate a sequel. All this mixed with drama.

I must live in a different world, but I was waiting for an emotional ending like this from years. Loved every second of it.

The game is great, so is the story. Sure, it's written shitty but... so entertaining and romantic. Can't wait for the sequel, I hope it comes.

The Shaolong Guis are easy when you get the pattern down (but it really sucks when they get unpredictable and change their attack pattern. I was hit with 4 Ultimas, a Quake and a Stomp in near-succession). The Long Guis are another story, but they're pretty fun to take down.

Just sync Fang's and the other attacker's attacks with Sazh's Daze since his casting speed is sloooooow, and the Shaolong Gui won't strike you, ever. Also, Slow and Imperil work wonders. Switch to Tri-Defender if it stomps, Quakes, Ultimas or Bays.

Edit: I'm wondering if this strategy is applicable to the Long Gui in FFXIII-2?

Same strategy for the big turtles. No Highwind cheese though.

Shaolong Guis aren't in the game, but the big one casts Ultima at the start of the battle.

I did run into a batch of yawn-inducingly easy battles for a while, broken only temporarily by a fight against 2
Dragoons and and Orion
in
Academia 400
where they knocked me down surprisingly harsher in one battle despite dominating them normally. I must have drifted off there for a moment...

I'm only using weaker monsters with special abilities. Depending on what effect I want at the end I switch to a paradigm with the Kill/Libra guy, or the Gil Finder guy, or the one that gives 320% chance on rares. I think the first is the little electric dude you first meet along Cait Sith, and the Gil Finder is a Frag Leech from
Oerba 200
.

I do miss some of the difficulty of the battles from FFXIII, but as long as there is always something like that
Metal Cactuar
that I stumbled onto there is still some challenge on the side.

The game has a really weird difficulty. I thought the
Faery
boss required a lot of quick timing and I almost lost a few times, even though I ended up 5 starring it. But all the fights leading up to it? Snore. Most of the encounters are just extremely easy and are no sweat to constantly 5 star. But I felt the same thing as you in that area, the
Dragoon
enemies did a lot of damage really quickly, so fighting three of them at once was the only thing to be remotely worried about in that area.

Oh, and a question on monster hunting: I heard feral links make the chances higher, but does that mean actually killing with the attack or just using it in the fight?
