FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 |OT| Change the Future

Well I can't say I can comment on how it compares to Amalur since I haven't played it yet. It looks fun but the story seems too shallow from what I have seen for me to spend the full $60. Plus I am a little preoccupied with FFXIII-2. I can forgive quite a bit when it comes to action if a game has an engrossing storyline which is why I liked Nier so much.

Amalur has a lot of its own problems, i was just focusing on the action combat specifically. It has a lot of strategic depth that isn't present in a game like Nier, which is very brutish and unelegant altogether.

I guess sort of related, but how close to the PS3 version did the development team manage to get the 360 version of this game this time? Thankfully my fiancee got me the PS3 version, 'cause I am assuming it was the best again, but are there any real differences? Framerate the same?

I have a rubber band attached to my left analog stick so that I can get the chocobo trophy. I have other stuff to do anyway, so I'll just leave it on there for a while.

If anyone else used this method, how long do you think it took you? I think the steps are cumulative and not in a single sitting (because that would be utterly silly).

I did it earlier today. Left it on for ~2 hours, when I came back I had lost 5k coins, but to my surprise I had acquired the fragment o_O

Whipping around that moogle is god damned great.

That said, should I just be popping open gates willy-nilly? It makes the plot progression really weird. For example: (Uh, around the end of chapter 3)
I went back and opened a gate randomly in 10AF, and I got a cutscene with Caius / Yerva(sp). The fuck? It seemed like the ending to chapter 2.

Graphics are exactly the same now. Loading is MUCH faster on 360 installed, about half the time it takes on ps3. Framerate, sound, and cg is better on ps3.

wow, loading is that much faster? Jesus... that might even be worth a slight framerate dip...

if i was interesting in playing the game to completion, that is. But I doubt I'll be able to stomach it for more than a few more hours at this rate. Just hoping my fiancee loses interest in watching me play before I drive myself insane on this insufferable bit of software >_<

I used that method too for about 10 minutes, got off and got the trophy, but then again I rode on chocobos a lot during my post game fragment collecting.
I didn't ride chocobos too much outside of bits of Yaschas, but left the rubber band on for 20-30 minutes, so it didn't take long at all.

Yeah, I'm planning on doing this at the casino too now that I got the Chocobo trophy. :D

Doesn't matter if I'm in the hole for coins, but as long as I get the fragment at least, I'll be fine. Then I can try for the casino coins trophy with the Chocobos or something. It's a better solution than putting tape on the controller.

Chocobo races are a good way to get the casino Trophy, but if you want coins to exchange for prizes, there are really easy ways to farm enough gil in less than 30 minutes to get everything you want. (provided your characters are strong enough)

It seems like Amalur and Nier weren't really trying to use the same type of combat system though. The only two different ways you could customize combat in Nier was your choice of weapon and magic. Amalur seems to be focusing more combat where you can play the way you want to. That's not really what Nier was about though.

Good thing your fiance bought you the PS3 version! I haven't played the 360 myself but I have heard the PS3 version is better. I have the PS3 version but that's my console of choice so I probably wouldn't have bought in on that either way.

Just beat the main game. Definitely one of my favorite Final Fantasy titles. So fucking fun.

I knowww. I am nowhere near beating it yet, but I'm so happy playing the game. I'm finally getting back to Archylte Steppe, and I'm walking around in the sunny weather exploring, and I couldn't be happier because it's so fun.

It's interesting how when an area is nice and sunny with lush green makes for a really pleasant gaming experience.

Yeah, I actually prefer Archylte Steppe in XIII for that reason. Sunny and lush green WITH all the wildlife walking, flying, running around... it was just so beautiful

So, I still got question about the ending xD I'm kind confused, cause I thought the game had multiple endings but you guys told me that if I simply beat the main game I'll watch the CG ending which is the true ending...

So, how many endings does the game have?

Yeah, I think I'm going to farm for gil to win some of the prizes since I'm not really buying much from Chocolina outside of greens.

LOL, I've left a rubber band on my controller for a little bit, and my coins are steadly lowering as opposed to increasing! I just want the fragment, though.

Buying coins from the casino counts towards the Chocolina money achievement as well

One, the rest are little fake endings - what if scenarios

One true ending which you get when you beat the game for the first time, eight paradox "what if" endings + a secret ending.

I'm glad Amirox jumped in on this game. It's like watching someone willingly slam their head into a wall just to see what it feels like. Good old fashioned GAF entertainment.

There are 8 paradox endings, which are basically just "what if" scenarios throughout the game, and you can only see most of these after beating the game. Then there is the secret ending you get for beating the game with 160 fragments that you view after the credits, which is basically another paradox ending and doesn't add much to the real ending.

There is only one real, true ending, which everyone gets when they beat the game.

Not sure if links to GameFAQs are allowed here, but look around on various FAQ sites, the methods are pretty easy to find. Basically, you want to find either Tonberry, Don Tonberry, Rasputil or Yomi for insane amounts of gils+loot to sell.

Those are from easiest to toughest, regular tonberry should be manageable without a very strong party.

Checked reviews and saw that the game was reviewed poorly, but decided to pick it up due having a gift card for Walmart. Got it for around 11$. By far the most fun I've had with an RPG in a very long time. The game is great. The story doesn't even seem bad. It's over the top sure, but it's what I've come to expect from final fantasy post VI.

I am really, really enjoying it in any case. Some of the fights so far have been a challenge as well.

I'm so attached to my little monster buddies. My Notsugo RAV is an fiesty little mage (who looks positively charming in his Wizard's Hat), and Flanitor's Hyper Rescue is just about the most awesome thing ever. Not to mention all the beatings my good ol' Pulse Knight has taken to keep my party rocking. I <3 my monsters.

I really want to platinum this trophy. is there an easy way to get 100% on the map in academia?

For 400 AF, just complete it in 4XX AF since they're the same IIRC and this way you don't have to deal with battles every second. For 500 AF, if you're having trouble with the platforms get the long jump fragment skill and jump to your death near them since they get filled out anyway.
...
Actually I'm not sure if you even need to fill out Academia 500 AF.

Well, I finished this game. Fuck the ending that is XIII-2. Fuck the final boss too. Now, I can focus on completing Mass Effect 1 and 2 before Azura's Wrath comes out.

I can see people not liking the ending (I like it)... but the final boss? Really?
I thought most people would agree the final boss in this game is awesome

If you think the framerate on the PS3 version is poor, the 360 averages even lower.

You do, because I have 100% for 400AF and I did not receive anything.

It's annoying because you have to go back and forth to fill in that one little block, and if you fall you can wind up all the way back at your last checkpoint.

On the flip side, if you reach that small block, you can just fall and go right back where you were.

I opened that area earlier today, saying that you hated it doesn't motivate me to head there next. Might just fragment hunt for a bit.

I'm doing this right now. It truly is horrible.

Why no one put the kabosh on this level during development is a wonder.

There's a blurb in the guide about how the team wanted to create a level that would really emphasis the game's jumping mechanic...
