FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 |OT| Change the Future

Okay, I completed the entire optional Bresha Ruins side episode (100 AF and 300 AF) and I'm convinced FFXIII-2 is one of the best comedy RPGs ever. They should really have marketed it as the game it actually is, instead of the game the marketing department wanted it to be. :p
Kupo kupo...

got a couple of questions gaf hope you can help me.

ive never played a FF before nor im a big classic RPG fan tho i did like ME series, pokemon, witcher 2, demon/dark souls series. i know those are action rpg but is this game fast paced or slow? do i need to play XIII to understand this game?

is the LE and the LE guide worth it?

The game barely teaches you how to play it and assumes you have played 13. The battle system is still my favourite system in recent memory though.

The LE is mostly the soundtrack. So that depends on whether or not you like the music.

The guide can be useful, but all the information is online already.

Oh yeah! Got myself an Amodar crystal my second time fighting him and Lightning. It's so rad to a have a third human in my battle party. And he looks cuuute with pink-rimmed glasses on.

The game is pretty fast paced and the battle system is easy to get the hang of.

I didn't play FFXIII and I had no problems with this game. There's a "beginners primer" in the main menu that goes over the events of the first game, chapter by chapter. It helped me a lot, so I don't think you'll have any problems

The biggest reason to get the LE is the (amazing) 4-disc soundtrack IMO. And the LE guide is really nice.

Any advice for Omega? I wiped my ass with all the final bosses in the game. It wasn't even remotely a challenge. But Omega is pretty tough! I can't even damage him much...

Dual-wielding rapid fire spellblades.

Wait...

I haven't fought him yet, so I wouldn't know.

Holy moley, I went from this to revisiting and finally finishing The Last Remnant's final boss in his punishing "Absolute" form. That may have been the hardest rpg boss fight I've ever had, every menu choice filled with anxiety. Although high at 200 achievement points for doing so, that was really earned unlike most achievements in rpgs.

But that experience also highlights why there is room for something like FFXIII-2 in the marketplace. May just get that Serah Resort dlc and replay, as I myself am in the mood for taking a fun rpg vacation after TLR. And then start a second game and try hard to avoid building Noel and Serah up as much as reasonable.

As for other DLC, I'm somewhat interested in the Jihl scenario. While I would rather toss in FFXIII if whim struck to play as Lightning or Sazh, Jihl (if recruitable) would be something new.

If you can't keep up with his damage, you can just sen/sen/med or sen/med/med until he...staggers himself. His stagger doesn't last very long, so it'll take a while, but it should be doable.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

You can beat him easily if all your roles are level 99. Oh and don't worry about not damaging him much, he'll overheat when he casts a super attack, thus making him vulnerable.

Oh, I see, the trick isn't to fight him while he's firing, but to survive his Wave Cannon attack first? I'll have to try that, thanks.

As for Lightning, her drop rate is BULLSHIT. I just beat her like 6-7 times in a row, and there's no drop! I even got her Lightning Cross accessory, but no Lightning! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!

Is there a reason I can't get the Chocobo unlock in Steppe? I have all the cactaurs, and opened the other gate. There's no NPC to talk to other than the dude by the gate who spouts jibbrish. Does it have to be certain weather?

Guess I got lucky with the DLC. Won Amodar on my second fight, and Lightning on my third. But can I catch a green chocobo? Nooooo.

I finished the game today. 82 fragments. 36 hours. The game was a solid 8.5 for me until Chapter 5. That chapter plus the final brought the game up to a 9.0. EPIC final battle sequence and a very challenging final boss, despite my decent stats. I admit I hated the ending when I first saw it but now seeing it in context and in English, I actually liked it! In old FF games, it would have ended all tied up all in a neat little bow. This ending was shocking and unique. But very well foreshadowed....I will also say this again. The storyline was a hell of a lot better than Skyrim.

Bring on DLC / 13-3. Haters be damned :D

Quick grips before I iron out my review:

1. Hard mode please. I want the game to be as hard as the final episode.

2. Spacing off the abilities in the crystarium needs some work.

For the feral link to increase the capture rate, is it just the last one you do before the monster dies? Cause, Gigantaur is about 700% if you ace the QTE, but I also use 100% with Flanitor, and I'm wondering if that's affecting anything.

So now that all I have left is the 10k coins in one game session trophy do I just basically have to leave my L1 taped down till it pops and let it run?

Ok, so I ordered this a few days ago.

I ADORED the combat and leveling up system in FFXIII. It was enough for me to finish the game and attempt many of the sidequests. Should I expect an improved version of the things I loved when I start playing this in a week or so?

If you liked chapter 11 from 13, then you should enjoy this game after the game opens up one hour in. As long as you don't mind the story, the gameplay is is still there, if a bit too easy most of the time.

It's 7777 coins in slots for the fragment.

Getting 10k coins is the trophy, and you can get those coins from racing as well as slots.

Too much is postgame for me. I want to be able to have the game finished up before fighting the last boss. I've completed the game but really have no urge to grind for items for the best weapons or get all the fragment because it won't make me anymore powerful to defeat anything related to the main story arc.

Yep. Just make sure to check the state of the machine by talking to the casino employee. If she says : "It's hotter than a summer's day" (something like that, paraphrased) your chances of winning are way higher. Took me about 30 minutes of auto-gamble to get the trophy (mind you, it IS luck based)

Also, in case people didn't know, auto gamble gives lower odds than manual gamble. But NOBODY does manual gamble in their sane mind.

I got about 151/160 before last boss and a couple of monsters to get in the bestiary. Not much post-game grinding at all for me. It depends how you play I guess. Got the platinum trophy relatively quickly after finishing the main story.

Just beat the game. I'm still laughing. So hard. Good job Toriyama. Lol.

The man should be given more credits for having the guts to finally
not end a story with an happy ending
. He writes like shit, but here and there he can pull off some funny original ideas :p

Maybe that's not enough to save the man, but surely it's entertaining.
That doesn't mean I wanna see him again behind FFXV of course... lol.

so GAF im hunting down some graviton cores atm before being able to continue. At the moment im unsure whether to continue and finish the game or do some of the optional time zones first? any suggestions?

Doing the optional zones simply means you'll be higher level for the final battle... so it depends on how you feel about making the ending easier for yourself.

You don't have to grind for a single item. Just get the Chaos Crystal from the casino and get the fragment weapons (you can buy the other weapon at the Casino once unlocked). This gives you incentive to do some fragments because they get stronger with more fragments you collect.

I think the ATB Rate weapons are better than the Chaos Crystal weapons, but those require a bit more work. Of course, I had the Genji bow DLC so that automatically gave me one of those weapons for free...

Finished all the Yaschas Massif and Vile Peaks Fragments. The background stories were pretty interesting. I like how they tie several subplots together, both in the actual events and in the Fragment information you get after the quests.

So after completing all the option stuff in all the time periods for Bresha Ruins, Yaschas Massif, and Vile Peaks...

I assume that after the Atlas paradox was resolved in 5 AF, anti-Academy fundamentalists were inspired to try and take control of the device. So in 9 AF they steal the control device, and did something with it before the Blitz Squadron recovers it and takes them down. These terrorists then retreat into Pulse, where they continue to plan their attacks against the Academy.

In 20 AF, whatever they did to the control device starts work, and it creates the paradox which generates monsters into the Bresha Ruins. The government ignores it for decades, until the problem gets so bad they have to pay bounty hunters to get sort it out.

But in 100 AF, when the terrorists realize that Serah and Noel are on the verge of helping resolve the paradox, they take out the guy who knows the control codes at Yaschas Massif, and when they realize that the paradox there is getting worse, they take advance of it by killing more people there hoping to scare the Academy away from the site.

I wonder if there's more to this background story element. I still haven't done the optional stuff in Oerba and Sunleth yet, and there're still a ton of Fragments in various other places.... like Academia 400... shudder. :/

Oh, and I think it's pretty funny how the game has direct foreshadowing to the Sazh DLC scenario. Reminds me of the DLC hooks Obsidian put in New Vegas for the first two DLCs. :)

i think i will finish it first so i have a challenge, thanks for the advice firehawk12

btw has anyone encountered the game (360 ver) just randomly deciding that it cant detect the dlc? it's quit on me twice now for no apparent reason, i have used the costume dlc since i began the game, purchased lightning and amodar and not fought them yet. any suggestions?

Academia's fragments are all for map completion.

Whoever designed the Oerba sections needs a healthy slap across the face. They're not even hard, it's just so god damn tedious.
So much of the optional stuff is tedious. :(

Welcome to my world. I had to fight her more than 30 times before I got her. SUCH bullshit. But I can say that, since finally getting her, it's definitely been worth it... so stick with it!
