FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 |OT| Change the Future

How many cutscenes in XIII-2 even have Lightning in it?

Because in the Raiden situation in MGS2, Snake was still a major player throughout.

Off the top of my head I want to say 4-5 (counting the first one altogether), but there may have been more. Only the first one was Lightning focused. There may have been more, but she shows up so little and often doesn't even make an impact when she does. She does do some narration, but that doesn't really count. There is also an optional area with her in it, but I didn't count that either.

4-5 sounds right. You see here in the very beginning, but then she doesn't show up in a cutscene again until 20 hours into the game.

Has nobody seen the ending from 160 fragments?

The ending is
really nothing but
Caius
trolling at the player by saying
how Noel and Serah
did what he wanted them to do
It is a around
1 min
long in length.

She is basically only around
at the very beginning for say 15 to 20 min and near the end she appears to speak to Noel and Serah. She also appears in the ending scenes.

That plus some narration and a side plot in an area where she
stays behind the shadows and doesn't even appear to Noel and Serah

Five cutscenes, narrator, short appearances, and an area where she's in? She surely appears more often than Snake in MGS2 :D

Because she still has a big role in the story, like Solid Snake had in Metal Gear Solid 2. I don't know why people are so angry about this considering that 1) Lightning was not a good character at all and she had already her "character arc" (...) done in the first game; and 2) I think it's quite admirable dropping the main character everyone expects in favor of something more original fitting the new story, like her sister and a totally new character like Noel. I appreciated Raiden being in MGS2 for the same reasons. It also helps giving the old characters like Light and Snake an aura of mistery and so growing in epicness. You know, just like Gohan taking the spot of Goku during DBZ.

What the Eff ?

Cool opinion bro, but don't go throwing it around like a fact. Just because you don't like Lightning doesn't make her a "bad character."

She surely has the best female character design I've seen in ages, but her personality and backstory is thin like a paper. Every character in XIII is better developed than her.

Still, Solid Snake was cool as hell and I didn't feel sad in seeing him like an unreachable "hero" like he was presented in MGSII. It felt cooler. Perhaps here in FFXIII-2 Lightning too will look like that.

She's quite wasted, actually. They could have excluded her from the game entirely and it would have made no difference.

I know that the FF team can't help but have terrible stories in their games as of late. What I don't get how they never cross the line into ' so bad, it's good' territory. Like not even close.

Why so serious Square?

You have an habit of always crashing every desire of mine, lol!

But in the intro she's pretty cool at least, and those are 20 minutes of pure epicness! :D

I've heard on gamefaqs that Lightning was one of the least important characters, but take it with a grain of salt. EDIT: She was almost pointless in the original game, as well, she simply had a lot of screentime, which gave the illusion she was important.

Actually, they can end up being laughably bad when you analyze them a bit, it just so happens that on the surface, they are so bland and empty at times, that you'd wish the ridiculous plot points behind the events were more visible so you could laugh a bit by how bad they are. Ex. FFXIII's ending.

And she's the cover of the game...:lol

Kagari you've probably said your thoughts about the game? Could you direct me towards them?

I only posted my thoughts from the beginning... but I'm working on a full review.

Yeah, cool intro but... it's self-contained really.

I'm replaying through MGS2 for the HD collection and I'm sorry, you are absolutely wrong about this.

Snake is pretty much in a bulk of the cutscenes during the Big Shell chapter, almost always comes up in Codec conversations (including the fact that you can have substantial conversations with him throughout the game about various plot elements, including backstory of the villains, the true nature of the plot, etc, etc), and he is very significant to the plot when considering the stuff he does along side Raiden. To say that he appears in less than "five cutscenes" or does not have short appearances is just factually incorrect.

But it's definitely a shame to see Lightning solely underutilized here. I would say that large portions of the marketing for this game were entirely deceptive.

I played it long ago, so my memory could be a bit fuzzy :p
Infact I remember just a couple of cutscenes with him.
But I intend to replay it in HD soon enough, I loved that game back in the past and I want to re-enjoy it on PS3 when the european version gets out.

Oh, I forgot Kagari didn't get FFXIII's plat. I wouldn't recommend it, honestly. So time-consuming and boring. :lol

Nice to know that trophies aren't a huge grind like FFXIII's. I hope it's as fun as Sonic Generations' and Tales of Xillia's platinums were~ :p

After just spending 240h getting the platinum in Disgaea 4, 75h seems like a treat. Even 13 took 100, at least for me.

Are there any missables that would cause you to have to start over if you wanted the platinum?

Quick question to you, Kagari, as you seem to be trustworthy. Is this a good game? Short answer is ok. :p

It's better than FFXIII for sure, but far from perfect. I don't think I would rank it in my top games of the series though.

There's a lot they added that should have been in XIII to begin with, but they also took away from others that people might be disappointed with.

Well, if it's better than XIII I guess I'll bite. Would be great to know if the advantages of having a save from XIII are small enough to be ignored. I'm wondering about buying XIII-2 here in Japan before leaving, but I have an EU XIII save on my PS3...

You get a theme, an item that gives you more luck in the casino, and some monster items. You can use any region save it seems because I used a US version save on my Japanese version of the game.

Really? That's great, thanks. I'll buy the JP version then for the seiyuu.

I remember leading up to XIII there was huge hype, but I've heard practically nothing about XIII-2. That said, I'm not exactly a FF fan. Just curious as to why the original got so much hype and the sequel isn't... especially if it's supposed to rectify all the problems of XIII.

It's not a mainline title. Sequels never get as much hype.

I don't know about that. X-2 had a lot of hype and effectively sold pretty well. I'd say it's because XIII disappointed and X didn't, generally. It just sounds like X-2 was something people were okay with, and XIII-2 (in contrast to a newly developed FF title/world) was not asked for. Glad to hear this one sounds like it's a bit better than the original, though.
