Nah, it's mainly for stat boosts. . . I don't recall Cul being needed for anything important itemwise for crafting something. But the real plus to a Cul is some of the skills it has, is actually really key for HQing items.

Wait you can cross skill crafting skills?

I was enjoying healing dungeons until I ran 2 runs back to back with tanks who only single targeted and completely ignored adds. First dungeon was fine I could heal through getting my face punched, but the 2nd the adds just started wrecking me. Also I hate overzealous dps... really need to learn to just let them die so they learn to let the tank pull. Maybe this is just karma for me playing only dps for so many years in other mmos.

Even better is when a healer is trying to act like a nuker due to that running out of MP and doing a half assed healing job. Had that happen too.

People there is no such class as a battle cleric so for the love of god please stop trying to play like one.

Regarding endgame and raiding Yoshida said this during Gamescom:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ws5elJaaHnc

"He expects that around 100 people in the whole world will be able to defeat Bahamut before patch 2.1 hits"

I love the direction the seem to take with the endgame!

This sounds amazing until you realize that Bahamut was originally supposed to be after the Crystal Tower, which isn't in this launch. So it's artificially harder because the content which you're supposed to do before Bahamit is unavailable, so you can't get gear from it, so Bahamut is tuned too high for the gear you can use for him.

HOOOOOLD UP... and feel free to laugh at my ignorance.

So this means that you can switch classes at will without needing a separate character or losing progress on what you were using before? You can switch around, always picking up in the progress of that class where you left off before? And it isn't like other games were it divides levels between some overall player level so if you're level 30 in one thing you'd only be able to be level 10 in another thing, but you could technically eventually be level 40 in everything on the same character, just switching between them by switching your equipment?

Yup, completely correct. You also have the ability to save gear sets so you can switch classes in a matter of seconds. Really simple and easy to do.

maybe he was a money farmer. i remember that behavior from older games. they don't behave like normal human beings.

that reminds me. i got my first real money trade ad today. thank you xfdhs for that /tell.

Its too bad that they dont add some sort of option to allow tells from randoms or not. Its nice how at least the mail system you need to be friends to send mails, but something needs to be figured out to prevent the general tell spam for gold farming.

Thankfully I have yet to see that yet.

Yep its one of the best features of the games. Save your sets makes for quick and easy changes. Plus being able to always update those sets anytime you change things is great.

Once you have it all setup its a breeze.

None of that mog house bullshit from 11 anymore.

I've actually found myself switching so often I have set up permanent hotbar with nothing but classes, crafting and gathering on it.

Correct. The only thing you lose is that you can't replay the quests you've done previously, but you do get a boost to xp gain on any class lower than your highest level class. Classes can also share abilities cross class once you've leveled them, for example: Gladiators can take tanking skills from Marauder or healing abilities from Conjurer.

I haven't had many bad pug experiences, but a lot of people like to overworkt me (the tank). DPS pugs seem to really struggle with burning down adds quickly. I can only hold so much.

However I love the XIV community. Coming from Tera it's a huge turnaround. The pugs in Tera were always overzealous DPS/veterans that want to rush through dungeons. I am the tank, let me set the pace please.

No one has challeneged that at all in XIV. In fact almost everyone waits for my go ahead at every battle.

There is really a lack of quests for some levels. Lvl 39 atm but last 2 levels I had to rely on fate farming. Questing only really got me half way through to next level.

I think that's how it should be, i mean... if questing always gave you a full level... many people wouldn't try other stuff...

If it doesn't, you'll FATE farm, you'll do leves, you'll do guildhest leves etc :p

Edit: I had a hard time today with a healer, too in the temple dungeon... everyone i've encountered until now has been awesome, though

Yeah, I agree. 38-40 I've been bouncing around content. Ran out of quests and basically have been doing company leves and FATEs and the 40 hests. It's kind of refreshing.

1) Is there a guide to all the acronyms here? Like DPS and DD and stuff?
2) Are there any tips on how to play each class so people don't moan at us? I haven't been complained at so I might be doing it right, but it'd be nice if there was a guide for how to know what to prioritise with each class.

All you can really do is just blacklist them which is a pain in the ass as theres no quick dropdown.

Its

/blacklist

then input their name in manually + add.

as usual square is a bit too naive with putting in functions to make it easier to block / report dumbshits. Guildwars 2 was pretty good with this.

Looked up all of the skills the Summoner could learn and there's not many. :/

You have to take into account the ability to use skills from other classes. You are going to need to level some other classes to set points to get skills that are vital for you to have if you want to play seriously at endgame,

Amazon still says that the downloadable version of this game is still available but I don't know if I'll get screwed because Square Enix said they stopped sales of the digital version.

I'm not too bothered by it I guess I'm just used to other mmos where there is really never a lack of quests

You could level to 20 in the phase 4 beta test, and that carried over. Most people at 50 on new start servers just fate spammed and skipped the majority of the quests and storyline.

DPS = Damage Per Second
DD = Damage Dealer

In general, if you're a tank... then you've got to aggro the enemy right in from of you (shield lob, flash, etc) while taking the most damage.

Lancers are all about being in position for an attack, there are some attacks that deal more damage from behind the enemy.

It looks like most of the skills the Summoner can take from other classes are DoTs. I can see why some wouldn't like them in their groups.

"hello?" "this is vagina"
I want to make alts for a tank and a magic user. I know it's not necessary to do so, but I want different races for each role and I enjoy the questing enough to want to experience each starting area.

Is there a disadvantage to doing it this way? Would one character specialised in everything be significantly more powerful? I'm not a min/maxer or hardcore endgame player so I don't mind a small disadvantage.

Picture of my vault. All sorted by my lovely retainer~

Its pretty good and easy exp. Just tedious. Plus doesnt flood your inventory space.

Though might go from ingots to making lumber next. Need to rid myself of these 10+ stacks of wood everywhere. Gotta get the yew lumber unlocked.

Why do you say they are OP? Also what is it with gamers these days calling everything OP suddenly.

Was just cranky this morning :p
But to explain:
The fairy not having an MP pool and basically unlimited aether is dangerous. And from what I hear from players who already have scholar unlocked and played for a big chunk, the mitigation is incredibly powerful. Compared to scholar which is a) more fun and versatile to play and b) shows more potential for varied healing it feels like the Conj/WHM might need adjustment.

Probably too early to tell though but from what I see, hear and read it's tipping in favour of the Scholar.

That also has to do with the fact that Conj/WHM lacks synergy between his/her spells imo while Scholar seems more thought out in that regard.

Anyway, calling it OP was bad on my part, sorry about that. WHM also needs something more class defining imo.

They definitely aren't good burst damage, and you get the occasionally fight where you may really need that or not allow for the setup time on all your dots. Every job has it's place though, especially when you start getting to the 24 man stuff.

Lol, can't believe there is no afk kick. There seriously were people logged in for days just so they wouldn't worry about having to get back in.

Yup... buddy of mine has been doing that, he stays logged in 24/7 because the game lets him. Kinda ticks me off... he's part of the problem. SE needs to fix it.

Yup! Key to being a master crafter is really to have all them leveled. I only have Goldsmith/Weaver/Blacksmith @ 50 personally and while I can make things for myself, it won't be HQ unless I do Alchemist and Culinarian

Which to note if you want any hope of completing the crafting class quests, you need to have the ability to HQ. Towards the end, it asks you for some basically endgame recipes to HQ. Of course the reward for completing your crafting class quests is a tool that is second only to Luminary.

I'm probably going to take a break on my DRG and start up crafting. My inventory\retainers are full of crafting material that it's hard to sort through all the junk. Might as well get my crafting up.

Finally managed to get in last night and play until the first time inn becomes available. EU servers were all utterly greyed out, so made my toon on Ultros (NA).

Could not make two steps without seeing someone with the GAF suffix. Lol.

Back then? A month and some? I was leveling them all last summer. Then got my Miner to 50 afterwards. In a way, it was easier in 1.x because they gave you the materials to craft the stuff. This time around you're sent up the creek without a paddle. Meaning you gather or purchase the ingredients yourself. IMO a real bitch move. XD
