Just did my first healer run of Satasha.

Let the tank die on mob because I mistimed my recast of cure, then canceled the next one by accidental move.

Wipe on the final boss cause none closed the water hatches and I healed a dps 2 to 3 times in a row while I though I had the tank selected.

The amount of healers must be extremely low, no one said a thing.

For the record, I did pass on most of the drops to make up, and it's been years since I did priest healing in wow MC/BWL.

Good fun though, really reminded me of old school wow priest healing.

TIME OUT. You can close the water hatches? I'm usually a tank so I never paid any attention aside from trying desperately to keep hate on the flood of sahagin, but the DDs can run around and close the hatches?

Yeah. When they start bubbling up, someone can go click them to make them stop.

Fuck it next time I'm logging in I'm not logging off.

I'm about fucking done. 5 straight days of this bullshit. I have been around for almost every MMO launch and this one takes the fucking cake. I think I would rather have random disconnects, lag, and all the other BS I have dealt with at launches then sitting at the fucking log in screen being told , nope try again for hours at a time with no indication of when I will be able to play. At least in the other launches I got to play the damn game for short periods of time. Right now as it is I work all day then come home and waste time and never get to play.

I'm in Ul'dah and there's just a sea of immobile people in town.

Tell me again why they don't kick idle players?

so I just added the ps3 version after playing the pc version (so I could play at work sometimes) and when I tried to login I got that my account was suspended for suspicious activity, and no follow up email as to how to correct this horrible judgement call.

way to punish me S-E!

I can't blame the players in this situation. SE clearly was not ready for launch. The sad part is that I feel like they really did turn the game around. I didn't think they could do that, but right now the game is solid and a lot of fun.

They never have, in FFXI you can set auto logout. If that option isn't in the game now they should just patch it to auto log people out by default after 30minutes of idle with the option to turn off auto logout.

This is the line of thinking I have trouble with. We know that the servers as they are can't handle the player volume, but some people have no problem with others leaving their characters logged in while they're not playing?

Implementing auto kick will take time and resources. It's not like they can just flip a switch and there will be auto kick tomorrow, and the same thing goes for server addition. Mitigating problems like these for the time being will require some player cooperation as well.

There are two types of people who play Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Those that idle, and those that don't.

The idlers are able to come back/play whenever they want, unless they are forcibly removed due to an error. The non-idlers, who log out when they are finished playing, usually cannot get back into the game afterwards, due to the number of people idling.

I was all for logging out when I complete/finished playing to keep the landscape an even/fair battlefield [so people can log in and play the game in my place]. However, if that means that I'll no longer be able to play in the evenings unless I get extremely lucky? I might be convinced to change my perspective...

How hard is it to implement a system that auto-kicks anyone /afk for more than...say 15 minutes? It can't be that hard to do, pretty much every other MMO has it. I don't want to resort to idling, I really don't. But if that's the only choice I have, I see no way around it. :(

Leveling crafting is so much easier than leveling mining. Is there anything people are doing to level mining faster?

Guildleves help. They let you mine stuff that is always equal to your level or above, have bigger chain bonuses because the mining points give up to six or eight items each, and you get a chunk of bonus exp at the end, particularly if you do well. You don't get anything useful, but you they do give decent gil.

Tradecraft guildleves are pretty useful for leveling Disciples of the Hand, too. They actually let you make decent money off of incidental crafting.

Is it impossible for them to implement this even temporarily, like just for the first week? I don't understand in the least why they don't want to kick idlers to ease their burden, unless they're certain that it wouldn't help.

That issue should have been taken care of by SE though. The auto kick should have been done in time for launch. It was an after thought, and now they are getting shit for it. I can understand the server issues, but they should have had the ability to kick idle players day one no excuses.

If they could just resolve the server issues this game would go HAM.

Also, is there any way to completely disable environmental shadows? I can lower them but not turn them off it seems

That's the tactic. When the hatches are bubbling up, you click on it and the add wont spawn.
I find these kind of mechanics (like the slime boss in the mines) to be the best part about the dungeon runs. Makes the fights varied.

If it's not coded in now, then it would have to be to implemented, and that will take time to code, test, and implement, as well as costs to pay those responsible for the work. They may be looking at it now.

It's fine if people think that, but in that case they should also have no issues with other players preventing yet other players from playing by leaving their characters idle.

Ah, that definitely explains it...but it seems very strange to not have something in place that kicks idlers in the first place.

Have had no issue playing the past couple mornings 10am - 1pm PST. I'm playing on Exodus and not on Ultros but still wondering whether logging in and out is a good thing.

So much for giving Square the benefit of the doubt. Decided not to log in before work this morning,. and lo and behold, I can't get in now.

I think I know why they only gave legacy members 2 weeks free, it's so they can look gracious when they extend it to a full month.

go for HQ and make good use of the whisper buffs. Use the +10% HQ chance buff on +1 attempt nodes and don't go for items with a lower than 90% success chance. Losing chain bonus hurts.... heck missing any hits hurt.

Gathering is slow, but that's because you can pretty much free ride crafting with a high level MIN & BTN, at least to a certain point going by the gathering/crafting logs and recipies.

It's a popular social thing that's driven to the ground. #Text Here is a twitter thing. I don't know much about twitter myself, but I bet my puppy that #Yolo is everywhere because Yolo is everywhere.

I believe YOLO reached its peak when an aspiring rapper tweeted YOLO, while speeding and driving drunk, crashed his car and killed himself seconds after the tweet.

It cracks me up when people say this is typical for mmo launches. I have had a great time with the game and managed to level a decent amount and have no plan on quitting but honestly it is one of the worst launches of an online game I have ever seen. It is right up there with Simcity. The difference though is that Simcity was a bad game also and this game is really good but as for technical issues it is in an exclusive class of terrible.

any 1.0 players who preordered been able to add the 30days from 2.0 to their existing account? i thought they had said we would be able to?

Wasn't there talk about having an option to re customize you're character? I really like the way my Elvaan looks... but everything from his movements, mannerism and even the way he lays down to sleep it's just way to effeminate for my taste. I was hoping for something more neutral like human. I picked the Duskwight version, does the other have different animations?

In online games people look out for self. When gil sellers (gold? I think it's still gil) start taking over ffxiv you'll see it when buying gold becomes more popular (more gil sellers). Though the gil sellers can only mess up the economy and not monopolize mobs, or notorious monsters. Same for botters, it seems like FFXIV has everything in instances so they learned from that...

Anyway what I'm trying to say is you can't expect a large amount of people to do the right thing when there's no penalty that can be brought on them (again looking out for self). A few people feeling guilty will not do the job. SE has to force it. I get auto logged out of GW2 constantly and I'm usually not afk. In pvp games I have to move every minute or I'll be kicked out of the instance.

Not sure about the PC version, but I had 1.0 CE on the PC and just today bought the PS3 one and linked it to my account. Checking my account and it shows I won't be billed until October 10th.

That's the 14 day "Welcome Back" + 30 days from the PS3 version.

Maybe they mean it's typical compared to WOW launch...like a decade ago? You'd think people's standards would raise a little after that much experience with this stuff.

Ifrit will be a really good test for you. He has high burst damage and, as a healer, you'll have to be vigilant of his strikes directed at you.

EDIT: Also, Sat is easy-peezy, as are the other 2 starter dungeons.

Yeah I know, It was easy, I just healed badly on 2 occasions, but none complained, yelled or left, which was nice for a change. :)

I really need to improve before taking on harder dungeons.

Again, good fun.

I had my doubts if I ever wanted to sub again for an MMO (many free alternatives), but I'm liking it so far. (minus the first launch days issues obviously)

Wow I got a new variant of the 1017 error: This time it let me into queue and then progressed the queue. Then once I made it to the front it gave me a 1017. Previously if I had made it into queue I knew I was good to go, not anymore. Pretty sneaky SE.

Has anyone else experienced this new technique in error presentation?
