How tough is CT? Harder than Pharos? Harder than EX Titan?

Gods no. It's way easier than either of those. I'd say it's possibly as hard as Garuda Hard Mode. Possibly.

I personally did not find any mechanic difficult at all as a tank once I read a guide instead of just blindly trying to wing it.

Had three people quit on my group when I mentioned I was new at wanderers keep. Thank god some nice people showed up afterward and walked me through it.

Is it true people speed run that in 15 minutes? Something about pulling everyone in one big mob or something? How does a tank (me) survive that? Truly end game armor?

Man I hope most of the end game community isn't like that.

I really regret not reading this thread and finding out which server GAF was on. I have regrets.

FC are tied to servers too right? So there is zero chance of playing with you guys unless random duty luck?

The primary trick in WP speedruns involves 'locking out' large groups of mobs by sleeping them and starting the boss fight before they can get into the room. This makes them reset so you never have to kill them.

Aside from that, you save your black mage/summoner limit break and pull every mob after the pudding boss at once with hallowed ground. Then boom.

You can get it under 10 minutes with decent gear and a healer spamming holy, although I dunno how well the latter works now.

But yeah I could never play this game just running with randoms all the time.

Does anybody know how the "thrown for a loop" mechanic in Moggle Mog works? The one where pink lines go to 3 people and then they lose control for about 10 seconds. It seems like most groups just ignore it, but I'm not satisfied without knowing how it works. :\

hidden aoe ranged charm that tags targets really early on in the cast. nothing else to it I believe.

the pink line is from moogle to king that denotes who is getting powered up i think. you pretty much have to be against the wall opposite to avoid i think.

It's the bard that uses it if you get too close to it

Hi guys

For those melee trying to down Garuda Extreme mode the rotation for garuda with adds up is.

Slipstream > Downburst > Wickedwheel

We had some problems with our melee getting killed by wickedwheel so with a bit of luck knowing this will keep you alive.

She only does wickedwheel while the 2 adds are up not durring plumes etc. Melee can run through tornados in the arena right after the animation goes off and you will take 0 damage.

Hilde quests are 10/10.
Better than the 1.0 quests. Probably the best content of the patch and had me laughing quite a bit.
Glad he's back and the fact that he's "fighting" someone so significant is awesome as hell.

Yeah, I hated them in 1.x, but am enjoying the new ones so far. Definitely an improvement.

Only did the 1st part, I'll have finish it before my leave of absence for xmas.

Yikes the pvp is downright bad. And you wait forever to get a match going it seems only to get jack for reward out of it if your team loses.

I kind of like it. I had a blast even as a non-OP class.

The 2 minute wait is frustrating though. 1 minute would be much better.

It's also the duty finder wait to start a match, all the loading screens, etc. For an arena like pvp system, it should be best 2 out of 3 and not just one quick little match that takes forever to get started. And for the time you invest in it, rewards are garbage. And it's extremely broken with the cc abilities.

The PVP combat has a good feel to it. It definitely needs more balancing. I'm more looking forward to the larger 8v8 encounters and the large scale objective based PVP.

I think it was a mistake to add gear progression and gear advantage to PVP though. The gear should have been either aesthetic only or add some type of enhancement to an existing ability. That combined with unlocking actions would have been a lot more balanced. As it stands, everyone running PVP now and getting geared in the higher level stuff is just going to completely decimate any new players and with the low rewards for losing, it's going to be really tough for new comers to get geared up moving forward.

I watched the housing video and Limsa has grown on me. I didn't like it at first, but now I would put it above Uldah. I still like Gridania the best but if we go there we should petition the devs to knock down some of the walls on the good plots.

A 2/3 scenario would be nice and the wait time should really be 1 minute or less between matches. 2 minutes is too long.

Overall, I like it. It's not horrible.

The pathetic reward for losing is going to be a real problem soon due to how much your strength in PVP snowballs as you gain morale gear and abilities. If you fall behind now you're never going to be able to get in unless they change something drastically - I'm almost rank 12 and I'm already behind, many people are already mostly full warwolf and are impossible to kill. I have no idea what they were thinking with this progression system.

And since balance seems to wait for content patches in this game, oh boy enjoy your dual summoner bullshit for a while.

It's still oddly more fun than I was expecting even though basically all the problems I predicted about melee classes are true. Also kind of annoying that I had the idea of going in as a Marauder instead of a Warrior prepatch, and it seems like everyone but me is doing that. I can't yet because I haven't leveled dragoon or gotten an axe I can use on the class, only have Bravura which is WAR only.

Okay UltrosGAF I have come to the decision that I will be jumping ship from Phoenix sometime soon to join your wonderful FC if you'd have me. I bring a ilvl77 DRG as well as full DL 50 PLD/WAR on their way to relics. I don't craft at all (yet) but I do gather (50 MIN, BOT, 33 FSH). I've had enough of my dickhead FC and their clique mentality, plus I play during the day in Aus which is peak US time and the dead of night EU time.

I do have a question though, my brother plays but doesn't read or post on GAF, he's still making his way through the story, would he be able to come with me? if so, I will probably make the leap once the holiday period is over, maybe earlier in the week before Xmas and new years though I am super busy with work so who knows.

Yeah, family / friends are welcome to join as well.

for those who've tried the ps3 version and high PC settings, How does it compare ? How big is the difference ? The game looks beautiful and framerate is good enough ,but you can tell they cut on enemy frames of animation , detail etc

I am completely addicted now but maybe its worth it to wait for PS4 version ?
Never this gen have I seen such visual disparity as exists between the PS3 and PC version. It's not even HD as far as I can tell. The lighting is drab and it just looks poo from a technical perspective. If you can hold out, hand aren't obsessed with rolling with end game ASAP, hold out for PS4

This is a bit of an overstatement IMO. I've played on nothing but PS3 and it looks fine. Of course a high end PC is going to look better but don't let that stop you from getting the PS3 version now. Since you get a free upgrade to the PS4 version there's nothing to lose except 3 months of enjoying the game.

Man, pet AI still is borked. What's up with it defaulting to Guard every time I set it to Sic/Obey and why doesn't Steady allow my pet to actively engage one enemy.

Damn the xivdb site scared me for a second, it listed 3 'rowena's token' as the currency needed for the extreme primal weapons and said you only got 1 for clearing all the primals. But the lodestone says you get 3 tokens for doing the quest or the (weekly?) repeatable so it won't actually take 3 weeks of killing them to get something. Blame Paladin shields I guess.

No that's the purple line. There's a brighter pink line that goes to 3 people just before they get that debuff. The lines have to serve some purpose!

I asked someone in this CT group and he said you get 3 after doing it once.

Okay, I need your guy's help.

I redeemed the registration code through PSN as the game manual says. The game installed completely, and launches successfully. But when I log in with my Square Enix account, it says that there are no valid service accounts for this game, and I also must redeem the game through PSN, which I did.

I tried going through the account website as well as the Mog Station, but it won't let me activate a new PS3 service.

I've done everything right, yet I still can't play this game at all...

Wait what ?! I was thinking of starting pvp during this weekend, and was actually optimist enough to think that the matchmaking would take people pvp rank into account...

Spent most of yesterday PVPing and I have some take away thoughts.

Currently CC is about 3x or 4x as long as should last in PVP combined with the fact the casting in interrupted on damage means it's impossible for healers to remove CC, makes PVP who can CC the best. And this is not just Sleep. Stuns, Heavy and Binds all last too long given their PVE cooldowns. Lastly the ability to break any of those CC is on a base 4 minute cooldown making it mostly useless against the barrage of CC you get.

Next issue. Vertical scaling gear progression. It simply doesn't work for PVP. I think they did a good job adding the PVP skills and really that should be the entirety of the grind. With gear being unique in appearance. Vertical scaling gear essentially kills PVP over time as new players have to grind out losses against opponents they simply cannot touch. Which brings me to my next point.

The grind and the disparity between winning and losing. For winning you get about 50 mark and for losing you get 10. It takes about 25 wins to get your first piece (The cheapest costing 1250). Essentially the system is set up in a way the more you win the more you win and the opposite is also true until you grind out an absurd amount of losses until you can start winning.

Lastly, the class balance. Marauders are way too strong. The survivability that they sacrifice doesn't compare to the damage and utility they gain from cross class skills for which they now have access to 10. Essentially any group running a Marauder is running 3 damage dealers and 1 healer so their damage output is substantially higher than say a group with a Paladin. The Paladin abilities barely have any use in PVP and Gladiator lacks the damage output to be anything more that an annoyance.

Summoners are also quite strong. Their pets are basically a dot that you cannot remove and switching to kill them is pointless. Miasma II allows them to kite any melee infinitely. Combine that with Tri-disaster. And the burst from Fester and you have a really strong damage dealing class. Top it off with Swift cast plus Ressurection and you have an extremely strong class.

Scholars are also quite stronger than White Mages at the same gear level due to the fairy and Lustrate. Healing debuffs don't have an effect on Lustrate and within the first minute of the fight they can fire off 9 Lustrates while kiting you with Miasma II.

I'd say these 3 classes are the most broken and a comp with 1 Marauder, 2 Summoners and a Scholar are the strongest. Even without sleep they have so much burst potential and enough CC and utility to take down most other comps.

My last complaint is pretty much the ability to use combat resurrection. Not sure what they were thinking here but combat resurrection in Arena based PVP. It pretty much means you have to focus the classes with that ability first and groups with more than one via Summoner are so much harder to kill.

Overall the combat in PVP feels fine , it's a lot less laggy than I thought it would be, though there is still lag. Based on some of the decisions they made so far at the start don't make me have a positive outlook for PVP in the future. The idea of adding skills was great. Class/skill balance is off. Vertical gear progression for PVP is a terrible design decision. And the grind too steep and gets exponentially worse the more you lose.

Welp.
The security token software on my phone reset randomly, and while I thought I wrote down the emergency password, I didn't. SE support is notoriously slow, and they don't even work on weekends, so ... it was nice playing with everybody, see you whenever I get this fixed.

Sorry to hear that. :(

Here's hoping everything is fixed for you soon!

Also, does anyone else love the Amalj'aa music [in the daily quest area] as much as I do? I can't quite say why, but it has a very classic RPG style tone to it, almost as if it's something I'd hear out of Chrono Trigger [65 Million B.C].

Can we have two characters in the GAF guild? Currently playing PGL/MNK (Blaetkoena Hymlwyn).

I'm thinking of starting a fresh character (ARC) after experimenting with the first few levels and loving it. Never knew being able to range attack and move felt so good.

Hope it isn't too long.

I had to wait about 2-3 days just this past week to resolve an issue.

Is there a reason why you don't want to level an ARC on your current character [since every character can be any/all classes as long as you want to level them up].

I'm liking the content of the new patch, but it also killed my leveling. My quest to 50 on all classes is slowed until fate grinding comes back in some form.

So what you're sayng is, everyone is already full Conjunct and they'll have VM soon and if I start now I'll never catch up.

Well that's fine, I didn't really want to PvP anyways. Now I definitely won't touch it. I had more than my share of Real Gear Check Combat before, I won't waste my time here.

Just do dungeons.

Running quick escort levemates is probably the fastest, but they're finite. After that, running dungeons is the best alternative if the queue time doesn't drag. SE needs to allow grouping while queuing for roulette, so I can maximize xp gain during downtime (Companion/Fate Group).
