I've used the party finder several times to fill in the last slot when my guild is running stuff off hours. It does a fantastic job of providing community server interactions. Several people who have joined up have expressed interest running with us again.

Cool, that's good to know, thanks for the reply.

I was also curious about what the end-game scene is like in this game. WoW became a bit too much for me to keep up with and turned into more of a job than a game (I only played up to BC), is the endgame in FFXIV structured similarly where you should expect to spend like 2-3 nights a week raiding?

The system was originally called MVP, then was changed to MIP (most impressive player). If everybody is bad, then nobody is impressive.

I thought they were going for "nicest" player. Guess I'll stop dancing and clapping in Duty Roulette dungeons then.

When they talked about it, they were definitely going for helpful players more than anything else. But nobody talks, so it's come down to observing whether a player is any good or not, at least for me.

The only thing really resembling raiding right now is the Binding Coil of Bahamut, but even then that's not really mandatory and not as demanding as WoW raiding. That said, they're following a progression model that is similar to how WoW was during the Burning Crusade era.

Speak (or don't) for yourself, everyone talks in my groups. Why? Because I initiate conversation. Perhaps you need to initiate conversations more in your group. :p

The thing about talking is that it's hard to hold a conversation while doing the dungeon. There is time to talk once things are done and a quick 'hi' at the start but once you're in fighting things it's a bit harder. You are either typing and not doing anything or doings stuff and not typing and if you start chatting after a fight (like with some trash) then you might be behind coming up on the next group and might have to wait for you (if you're tank or healer).

Not a lot of talking is needed though, mainly to explain a boss if it's got a tricky mechanic or if someone is new to the dungeon. Sometimes there are elevators or things you need to wait for which you can get a word or two in but mostly talk isn't needed. Always say good run etc at the end of a dungeon though and thank the others for the run.

There's enough downtime in dungeons to easily hold full conversation. Heck, right now I'm posting in this thread as I do a low level dungeon. :p

Well, good for you.

Just saying. Parties are social events. If you don't kick up a conversation they get awfully boring fast. :p

I'm probably gonna give the commendation to the black mage in this group. He's not the best (in fact he's awful), but he's putting the effort to discuss subjects and making this Copperbell run not boring. :p

You only talk because you want commendations >_> they want them to so they all just play along.

You know what was fun? Laughing my ass off at pugs raging at each other. This whole commendation circle jerk ruined duty finder.

Well, here we go, it looks like I'm quitting the game too. The patch 2.1. managed to grab my interest again, but after beating Ifrit I asked myself if I really wanted to continue this and if I was really enjoy this mmorpg model. The answer was... not really.

I still have 11 days left to play so I'll probably log in a couple of nights to help my coil static until they can find an appropriate replacement for me, but other than that, I'm done with this game.

I was talking in parties in MMOs long before any commendation system appeared. :(

People who don't talk are the worst however. You turn yourself into a wildcard when you don't do idle chatter, because people don't know how to react to you. That's not good for anyone.

That's a shame. I kind of feel the same way at times so I just spend my time helping people through the PF/FC.

Well, good for you.

Honestly, I get at least one commendation per run (as a dps) and it probably is because I'm the first person to say hi or gratz on gear or to send out a tip when people don't understand a mechanic fully
and I use cute emoticons :D

I love helping (I even used to join random DF dungeons like Qarn way before the roulette or the commendation system were introduced), but honestly, in FFXIV helping feels like re-doing the same 2 fights over and over again (flavor of the month: Garuda Exe, last time was Titan HM) due to the lack of party-based activities as you make your way to 50. And everything is instanced or blocked by carefully placed time-gates.

It's just the whole game mentality that doesn't fit me, I hate instances, I love open-world content and a quest-design that requires cooperation (helping people get their sub-job, escorting people to Jeuno or the teleport crystal, etc) and I hate linear gear progression.

Could you elaborate on that a bit? Do you mean in the sense that you need to be adequately geared out to move on to the next dungeon, then getting re-geared before moving on to the next, etc.?

So basically because you're nice.

I had a really good time through Brayflox earlier today with a gaf party, we simply interacted and had fun. No need to discuss Shakespeare either.

In the sense that progression is locked with attunement. Progression for a class basically goes: Story > Chimera > AK/WP > Hydra > Ifrit Hard Mode > Garuda Hard Mode > Titan Hard Mode > Binding Coil and Extreme Mode Primals. With Crystal Tower, hard mode dungeons, and Ultima Weapon Hard mode on the side where you feel appropriate.

Ahh cool, that sort of thing I can definitely live with.

Cheers.

Sooo I entered Coil for the first time since the game's launch. It was rather fun actually, took a couple of tries but we got Turn 1 down, then the group beat Turn 2 for the first time...only took us 2 tries. We might have beat it in one but someone forgot to pass Rot and well...party wipe. Turn 3 is a total joke and we called it a night after getting to Turn 4. We were constantly getting to the fifth phase of Turn 4 but things went to hell after that. I think we should knock it out soon...well I'm a reserve member so I may or may not get to go but eh, my book will always be ready if I need to step in.

Oh and I got Alagan casting gloves, nice to get a drop in your first ever Coil run! Cheers Worst Coil Group (Haman, Ravi, Myra, Mariko, Silent Protagonist, Auli and Avelle)

I think Garuda EX is what Titan HM was for some people in terms of a stone wall.

After about two weeks, I got the pattern of the fight down to a science across many groups, but no matter what, the group can never actually seal the deal due to a variety of things (running into tornadoes, losing whirlwinds, wicked wheel problems, random DPSes attacking the Spiny plume too early or accidentally, etc, etc). And a lot of the PUGs end up ending in bitch fights (healers calling tanks bad, tanks calling healers bad, etc, etc).

At this point, I'm at an absolute loss on how to proceed from here.

You use the FC to get that win! Team up and take her down...she's nowhere close to Titan HM in terms of difficulty.

Yeah, my group said last time they got DRG drops but there aren't any in the group! We were very fortunate that all of our drops today went to actual members who needed them. Felt bad for our BLM (Myra) who bought myth gloves and then casting gloves dropped but I was happy to drop those dumb DL gloves for some alagan ones. RNG is dumb

I hate Titan so much.
How could you!? Titan is the most enjoyable boss currently in the game [in my personal opinion], although EX Titan does seem like one of those things where they try to do too much all at once. In my personal opinion, HM Titan is more delicately balanced, but I have a great time in my attempts at the EX version. We will succeed! ...Eventually, or at least, that's the dream!

Unless you invite Titan to your house, then it's okay to hate him. That fellow does not mind flipping a table or two or three.
