I... Kind of like this game so far. I really want to party up with people. I think that'll make me enjoy it way more. I'm not sure if I'm cut out for MMOs, though.

Sorry if asked, but is there any way to make text bigger (ps4)? Game seems fun but I can't read shit. Thanks.

I forgot how to do it, but I actually increased the text size in one of the screens, but I am not sure how I did it. I think it hit left or right on the D-Pad or something to increase text size.

This is bullshit. Every time I try to sign in it says my password is wrong. I've changed it 3 times now trying to fix this. I am 100% sure I'm inputting the same password on the website and the PS4. Anyone else have this problem?

Be sure there isn't a space at the end of your user name and password. There are times when the PS4 keyboard will add a space when you jump to a new input box.

you can go to hud layout and hit R3 for each element to increase the window size to 60 to 140 in 20% increments.

obv dialogue isn't part of the hud.

Played for about 5 hours now and I'm starting to come to grips with the controls. They're still goddamn terrible, but at least I can wrap my head around how they work. Unbelievable that S-E literally just took the PC UI and gave it controller bindings. I was expecting something similar to what Blizz did with D3. Oh well.

Also, holy shit, the frame rate. Absolutely terrible. Lock it to 30 if it's going to be such a clusterfuck.

I'll probably keep playing for months just because I'm dying to play an MMO again and don't want to go back to PC... but my goodness, this game really doesn't deserve the money it's gonna get from me.

Er, the UI and controls were designed on console to use with a controller (DS3) first, and the PC controls were more of what you would generally call the "afterthought". The entire game was designed for people to be able to play it using a console controller from the outset, and at most press events and such they've actually demo'd it with PS3 controls.

Not to say the controls are spectacular or anything, but the complaint would be against the core UI design philosophy, rather than against it being a "lazy PC port" or something of that nature.

I do remember hearing a lot when I was in Japan that it has to do with the differences in the way Japanese people read compared to people who read Latin-derived languages. Basically, UI in Japanese games tends to make a lot of sense from the perspective of someone who's used to reading Japanese, and therefore ends up feeling a bit "off" if you were raised on romance languages.

I do remember having a little trouble with the controller controls at first with the PC beta, but I used them the whole time. Now, it's totally second nature. I'm pretty impressed with how they were able to implement everything into a controller.

I'm having a bit of a problem when remote playing. The touch pad button used to scroll through the hud what is that button on the vita? Tapping the screen doesn't work for me.

Yeah I don't think you can on the Vita. Although I haven't tried configuring it to different button.

up to level 8 now just solo-ing. everyone seems pretty anti-social...lack of kb i guess? do you have to be in a party to do voice chat?

Stumbled on a few FATES. Are FATES just fighting one big ass monster and/or a mob of monsters?

If they don't fix the tiny text I'm gonna need an LE that comes with binoculars and eye drops.

You obviously didn't choose the binocular as starting gift!

FATEs can be a bunch of things; fetch quest, killing a big monster, killing many small monsters, and even escorting NPCs (YAY).

I don't know if it's only the starting area for the marauders or something but holy crap the first hour to hour half of this game is soooooooo stale and boring and Blegh. So many damn fetch quests and talk to this guy and give this person an item and grab this item from this person. When I finally was able to play the damn game I was just so unimpressed that I quit within 15 minutes. I'll give it one more shot but so far it has been doing all the no-no's of MMO's.

Also, I seriously cannot get a handle on the controller layout, I've tried editing it so it makes a little bit more fluid but there is only so much you can do with crap. I mean I thought Rift was bad but good god this game takes the cake.

You really have to have the patience to get to level 15 for when the first dungeon opens up. Otherwise yeah, it's pretty miserable for the first hours.

Yeah, the first 30 mins or so was friggen dull as all hell. When I finally got to leave the city and just beat up poor little animals and level up for an hour it was way more fun. I get that they want you to run around the city and learn the layout a bit, but it's pretty tedious, yeah.

They could probably do a better job of expressing how completely optional a lot of the questing is. You can always revisit those quests when you're leveling a second or third job, so it's no huge loss if you leave some of them uncompleted and just go out and fill your hunting log, do easy leves, or explore around and do FATEs.

The game is pretty deep from my understanding but I feel like a ton of people will be deterred from getting past the beginning part. Im assuming in the full version there are no differences to how the beginning is laid out?

There is no voice chat unless you use the PS4's party chat.

I'm not playing the beta but it's pretty dull for the first 15 levels mostly because you're just doing story and side quests alone which are, as you've discovered, not very original or interesting. The quests don't get much better but the instanced party content is pretty good. Make sure to do hunting logs to help speed up leveling.

I've kind of grown used to this though coming from a bunch of MMOs with similar starts so I just accept it as an unfortunate consequence of how abilities are distributed and learning curve.

The text is hilariously small! I was standing with my nose pressed up against a wall-mounted plasma anyway because I don't have glasses here... but even right up against the screen the text is small!

So I've seen a little slowness, and some graphical strangeness (mostly due to a bad camera angle here or there on tall grass for example) but other than that this looks great. Hope it does really well. I'd play for sure if it went F2P but don't have time for a monthly payment game at the moment.

Works pretty damn well on the PS4 controller too. First game I've played that made the pad a feature I enjoy having instead of a liability.

edit: And I have no issue with the text size, but then again I'm ~6 feet away from a 50"+ screen

Here's my character. Can you earn more emotes or is what's in the menu all there is? I remember a gif posted on gaf where the guy hilariously claps but then suddenly makes a straight plain face.

1. You can earn maybe, two or three more emotes IIRC? One of them is a throwing emote, and the other 2 are salutes. Might be more but that's what I remember.

2. Pretty sure that's laugh on a hyur male. The emotes have different animations depending on race.

I think that was just one of the standard emotes, but done sitting while targetting someone next to them. You get a couple more, like special Salutes based on what GC you join.

So fighting with the fist-fight-y class is really just pressing three buttons in a set order over and over again? I have the feeling I might have chosen the wrong class for fun play -.-

That sounds way more fun than how spent my first five levels of playtime.

This is really typical MMORPG. Too typical, just better than dat failed FFXIV first version few years ago.

But It's fun and I also welcome this game that I missed so many MMO games, even I didn't played WoW, because of my PC spec didn't met requirements.

Login progression is same as PC version, everything I experienced in PS4 version is really same as PC. Just problem is... typical.

All of the classes open up and become fun when they become jobs. To become a MNK, you have to level pugilist to 30 and lancer to 15.

Is there a wrapper for the Pro Controller finally? I've had a hard time setting one up that i've given up.

I use the mayflash wii u usb adapter. Has a handy DInput / XInput switch on it. XInput is a no go because XYBA are switched. But DInput works perfectly, and it's all mapped correctly by default. I like to change the PC UI ingame to show Playstation buttons as well so there's no confusion / smoother transition between me playing on PS3/4 and PC.
