A question for those who know about programming how hard would it be to high jack the data YG updater pulls and upload it to your own site/database.

Im thinking it would be nice to get a site that records marketward data over weeks/months/years with a graph etc.

I think lancers are there for damage, group/single person debuffing, and some party buffs (absorb on attack or something)?

So I should probably make a gladiator to tank while the lancer deals damage?

Sold all my stuff and gave all my gil away to one very happy new player, no turning back now I guess.

I deleted my old character and now I'm at the last stage of character creation and it won't let me choose my name, but I checked out the lodestone and it said the character name wasn't in use on Lindblum. Any ideas why this might be?

Man, YoshiP is such a nice man and seems really humble.
I wish I could meet him one day and thank him for his hard work.

Also, Wada's entrance made me laugh.

Well this sucks, apparently because I played in the beta the name is stuck in the beta transfer server or something. :(

I really liked that name too.

they can just create a few new servers for players that don't want to compete against veterans
Yeah I guess thats a possibility, I just dont want to start a MMO with such a fucked up economy, I mean a friend of mine has a character on Rabanastre with 70m+ without even trying lol.

Alright, another low level Ifrit, Totorak, and whatever else trip tonight or sometime during the weekend?

Also if possible, could we get a small Kobold stronghold escort for that one quest.

You got Ifrit done already lol? I want to do it, but my time is being eaten up by Dark Souls. Confirm a time or date and I'll be there.

Killed the Amaljaa stronghold boss a few times. The new Strongholds are pretty fun. It's maddess and you gain EXP like crazy.

Sorry Tek, I forgot to take pics.

To any new ppl joining Lindblum, please send a tell to:

Renta Hamster
Shiori Aran
Lily Vraminica
King Lala
Teknoman Blade

for a pearl, and verify your identity on gaf, too.

I'll probably get on tomorrow and get my pearl, still trying to decide on a new name.
Why can't you use your beta name? Isn't there a way to do that? My name was the same in beta.

Did you open up a new service account?

http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/news/detail?newsId=222bfbf646423d0b9863df91dd1bc083cbb989ea

If you happen to register new service account during the transferal from FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, you will not be able to transfer the Player Character name and obtain in-game bonus item.

If you participated in the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta, a FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Service Account should be present under your SQUARE ENIX account. This FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Service Account can be transferred to the official release.
* Note that this FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Service Account by itself does not allow for play.

Once you enter the registration code included with your game, you will be able to choose whether you want to transfer your FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Service Account to the official release or if you want to create a new FINAL FANTASY XIV Service Account. Please take care not to select the option to create a new FINAL FANTASY XIV Service Account unless you wish to lose all character information tied to your FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Service Account.

Please be aware that if you register any bonus item codes to your FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Service Account, you will not be able to redeem those items unless you transfer that FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Service Account to the official release.

In case you have registered new service account by mistake, please wait until the application procedure on how to correct the registration is announced.

I deleted my character on Wutai which was the one carried over from the beta using the name I wanted, and now that I deleted that character I can't use that name anymore for some reason.

The SE support dude did a pretty bad job of explaining it, but I think I'm out of luck. It's alright though, I thought of a new name.

Aw that sucks :(

Why didn't you just make a new character? Since the game is still free, there's no charge for making as many alts as you want.

Haha, forgot that I could do that, but it doesn't matter, some lowbie got a ton of gil out of it. I didn't really like my race or server choice anyways.

There is character restoration apparently if I ever did want to go back.

So, is the fighting more fun since 1.19? I'm wondering if I should come back or just wait until 1.20.

The fighting is much more fun for me, but I'm an archer and Auto-Attack really doesn't apply to archers. If you're a melee class be prepared to stand there and watch yourself hit a mob.

Rolled a lancer on Lindblum, haven't played since open beta. Obviously the game has come a long way in a year.

Im lvl 5 now, at what point should I start worrying about upgrading the starting gear?

Honestly even with auto attack, I still feel like i've got alot to take care of. They are supposed to be redoing the way positional attacks work too (some enemies taking more damage from the back or side) I think.

I re-rolled on Lindblum, name is Naka Kana.

Not sure if I will stick with this one, since I have a couple classes in the 30s on my Rabanastre char.

Late night update from Matsui:

Hello.

I would like to talk a little bit about battle balance.

In our most recent patch, we made some adjustments so that the improvements of leveling up or upgrading gear are more noticeable. (As a result, defeating an opponent with a much higher level or defeating an opponent who usually requires 8 players with only 2 players will be much more difficult to pull off. Despite these changes, please understand that it is not our intention to do away with the impact of player skills.) Overall, we believe that we have been able to achieve what we desired for battles, but more detailed individual adjustments may become necessary as play continues.

As mentioned in another post, players may feel that they are stronger or weaker based on how they have distributed their physical bonuses, and it will require some trial and error to get a good feel for the materia system and other new gear. I feel that it will take a few days to become accustomed to the changes.

In patch 1.19, monster stats have been altered, physical level and physical bonuses have been removed, damage calculations have been changed, and gear stats have been reviewed, so there will be situations where past knowledge and experience will not apply anymore. Furthermore, the patch has just been released, so I understand that players may feel uncomfortable with the changes. With that said, I would greatly appreciate it if you submit your opinions and feedback after you get a better feel for the changes by testing things out for a few days. (I am not saying that your feedback now is pointless! Rather, I would like to compare the reactions immediately after the patch with the feedback after some time has passed.)

Also I cant decide if EXP is crazy high or just right. Still now sure about the power level possibility situation either... Its useful, but really boring, so I doubt everyones going to flock to it.

I can see Yoshi wanting other higher levels to help lower levels without restrictions and being rewarded, but the exp rate is a little too high for that. Just dont want people not understanding certain abilities/ how to play a certain class by the time they hit 50, since everyone is having to relearn things at this point / skip over certain areas/items.

I'm Electromagnetic Postman on Lindblum, rank 28 lancer currently.

Is there actually a disadvantage to the dated gear, or is it just the stuff where recipes changed? i couldn't see a stat nerf.

Dated gear generally has less def of its same level counterpart so in most cases its better to upgrade it as soon as you can.

Def makes a massive difference now.

Is that an item or does that mean if Im in a guild yet? Sorry Im not new to mmo's but I get confused with FFXIV terminology. =D

It's an item to communicate with other ppl in same Linkshell(aka guild). When someone gives you a pearl you become a member and talk with them from everywhere in the game. You can be a member of many Linkshells at the same time as long as you keep the pearls.

Getting kind of tired of running around rather long distances back and forth between the desert and the city to do quests. I know there's a teleport system, but is there some faster mode of free transportation that I'm missing? I'm only at level 3, but it feels like 50% of my time spent in game is running.

Get a personal chocobo and run a bit faster :p

You're only level 3, run around, explore.

When you reach level 25, join a grand company and start doing company leve quests/escorts, and various company quests and save up for 3000 company seals and purchase your own personal chocobo.

In the mean time, you can rent a chocobo for 10 mins from cities (its slower than the personal but faster than walking). However, it costs 800 gil, which i suspect would be a lot for someone at your level.

If you want to travel between cities, there is an airship available now. Airship travel is instant but the cost varies with the max level you have achieved with any class. It starts out quite low (2 or 3 hundred gil or something) and by the time you reach level 50, it will cost 5000 gil.

I finished parsing and decoding items in the database and i found some interesting things...

- Was I decoding food wrong? Are these effects correct?
foodstats.png

- There are rare items that change the item color! Im a little behind so this might be old.
itemrarity.png

- not sure about this but are there no items with elemental resistances?!?! how does one beat ifrit???

- i was unable to find the item to materia breakdown link; i assume its stored serverside. blast!

- "Dated" jewelery are the only ones with AP bonus... whatever that is. There are 2 items not dated with AP bonus: Moonlet and Patriot's Choker and they both only give +1 AP.

- drinking a Potion increases block to 200 for a brief second.... that cant be right

The item data now contains more info than ffxivpro and both more info and more accuracy than yg.

Im done for the day - tmrw is recipes.

this is the site: www.ffxiv-db.com - feedback/suggestions appreciated

Wow, nice job!

As for elemental resistances there are some earrings that list elemental resistance in their descriptions I think. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't work at all though =P

Why does Pugilist have all those magic potency materia yet Conjurer has none? Or are those the materia that can be made from pugilist weapons?

Nah those are what can be added.

2H CON weapon =DD, 1H = Healing. (Im guessing when they add jobs the will lock then out to specific jobs) same for THM.

I guess PGL gets elemental + for when they use their weapon skills.

It does seem that + element is a better way to go than + magic, you could have seperate staffs for seperate elements.

lol51 is there anyway you could incorporate a filter to look for gear with specific stats, filter out classes that can't wear certain armour etc.

Great database so far :)

Yeah i will need to do a complex search feature. I ran into a road block regarding item equipment and filtering class required. I'm going to pause work on this till tuesday. Clear my head a little - use anima and leve allocation. For now i just did a incomplete and temporary dropdown selection for tools/weapons with (ill stop this as i think the complex search is the way to go).

Lancer's purpose in a group other than their DPS (which is substantial), is TP control. Namely, making sure the group has as much access to special attacks as possible (Comrade in Arms for the group, and the Surges and Invigorate for the Lancer themselves), and the enemy doesn't get to do special attacks as little as possible (Twisting Vice drains TP completely, Moonrise lowers TP generation). They're there to make enemies autoattack instead of using that weaponskill that hits your group for a lot.
