I remember that night. We spent hours watching Treitei Firnas doing emotes. Also visible there: Rentai, me :3, Chie Izanami, Kessah Shrykewolf, and Eithne Rain.

It's always sad when you remember the random good times you had after quitting MMOGs.

Lulz that should get a couple people on just for the novelty factor, going to be interesting being able to see all around you from that high up. I also still can't fathom how that is going to look in game when a ton of people get that mount. Its like a bunch of people sitting on top of a giant puppet.

Bet its going to be the fat chocobo theme.

Looks like Drakes and wolves are in too. Going to have a hard time choosing between riding a chocobo or a wolf...unless they're going to go forward with mount stats/mounted combat.

Yeah just saw those screen captures (The mounts are already in the .dats). The wolf one is going to be an 'interesting' one to ride on unless the size is bigger then the current ones in game. Imagining a Roegadyn on one of those is going to be a sight otherwise.

Another thing I found interesting is the mounts all have the same bracelet like accessories. We know armor for Chocobos are coming eventually, and that the mounts are going to double as companions you can use in the field in the future. I wonder if those bracelets are going to be the 'armor' that we can change out whenever that feature gets added. They are already talking about customization for Magitek Armor and that isn't even close to out yet.

Where do you see that?

But i want a dodo mount.. :(

I see a Dodo mount coming eventually if they decided to do one of those friggin wolves XD. The Dodos are more suitable as mounts then those things are... hell that drake looks positively uncomfortable to sit on even if they did smooth out the neck area a bit. I want a toad mount next damn it! (Oh god... imagine if they add a toad mount and a ninja class/job all in the same update lol).

Only in FFXIV would a light-hearted addition to the game spark a raging forum firestorm.
THESE MOUNTS ARE STUPID AND BREAK MY IMMERSION RAWR

Want a drake mount so bad...

If they have a problem with this breaking their 'immersion' they better not play any of the old school Final Fantasy games. There were tons of little 'immersion breaking' easter eggs or down right goofy stuff that came across as content or a story (The Sakaguchi FF's come to mind... hell FFVII with Cait Sith. You had a friggin cat on a doll as one of your main characters). I think the sight of 20 of these badass plants at an aether camp would be a breath of fresh air lol.

The notion that Final Fantasy is anything more than a hodge-podge of cool and weird fantasy stuff is completely lost on me. People are taking this way more seriously than the devs do.

I'm not sure why people would want to limit choice, either.

100 different crazy beasts riding around would probably be a bit much, but I'm not sure why a Goobbue, Drake and Wolf mount is OMG THEY HAVE GONE TOO FAR. Just like when they were like CALL IT SOMETHING OTHER THAN MATERIA YOU ARE TAINTING MY MEMORIES OF FF7.

Think its mainly because the idea of a mount the size of goobbue is unheard of in FF MMO history. In fact in FFXI they got rid of large pets for BST due to the earth shaking whenever they moved around and mounts for the most part have just been chocobos (with a few exceptions obviously). So the idea of an unusual mount like Goobbue just strikes a cord with some people as a slippery slope that brings a lot more this 'unusual crap' that they think doesn't belong in the game. For me I welcome it as long as they can make it fit. These unusual trappings allow players to have fun with the way they play. The thought of a Lalafell on top of that thing terrorizing a little camp area is just fun no matter how you think about it. In fact I would love for SE to allow certain player estate functions in 2.0 to be run by your animal companions. Imagine a Goobbue Gardner!

So if I want to change the music playing while on the chocobo, not to my own music but just switch so that the music from the rental chocobo plays for the personal one. Anyone know if and how it can be done? I know you could do stuff with the music files in FFXI and get your own music.

I'm glad Yoshi-p wants to make the game more high fantasy, this realism bullshit in games has gone far enough !!

lol. Realism in shooters? Sure. Realism/seriousness in fantasy? No. You make it seem like most MMOs are not mostly made up of either WoW clones or hyper-stylized Korean porn dolls. The verisimilitude is actually refreshing here.

I don't find a goobbue mount particularly offensive (and we've already seen controlled goobbues in a cinematic). If it they have to fuck everything up to make the world look as pretty as XIII's maybe it could be worth it(but I still wouldn't prefer it). What will bother me are the goofy gigantic 1-handed weapons (which we've already seen) and gigantic cauldrons which are inevitably coming. If you are going to be super deep into out-there fantasy, at least have the beauty of a next-gen Final Fantasy and don't be an abortion like WoW.

I don't see what wrong with WoW its an old games designed to work on a PC from 2005 its not guna look beautiful.

I was more talking about the people on the offical forums who want everything brown, drab and realistic.

Realism has never been part of Final Fantasy so I duno why it would start now.

Out of curiousity what do you mean by Giant Cauldrons ?

My pop at realism is more based on the look, ie something like Skyrim looks realistic but actually isn't. (I'm a fan of cartoony looking graphics, Korean art style is awesome)

Realism is what brought us the crafting system where you synth 2392479564795632497 parts before you start the actual synth -_-; But I agree, there has to be a balance in between realism and fantasy. Even with the goobue mount, i don't think it breaks that balance.

I was bored and decided to give this a try after having not played it from beta.

Still working on creating an account, but holy shit... this Square Enix login/account management/billing website is pure shit. It's just full Engrish in some parts. It's pretty obvious they outsourced the translation of this to someone who didn't really care.

Seriously, "*To create characters on your FINAL FANTASY XIV service account, you must possess automatically continuous options."

If I hadn't already read their Japanese site, I would have had no idea what they were talking about it.

They need to let their non-Japanese arm handle their own regions instead of just translating the Japanese version.

Clickandbuy? What is this shit? Why do they have a billing vendor for subscriptions, but run their own billing system on the Square Enix store?

What is this $6.99 Basic Service Automatically Continued Option?

What is this dropdown box that asks me to choose an amount of characters?

I have to pay more for more characters? Seriously?

Wow... this shit is borderline unplayable. What kind of madman thought of this interface?

Wasted $20 for sure.

Yay another happy customer.

I really want to like the game, and it's quite beautiful, but damn it sure is obtuse. It's like the developers looked at all of the standards that exist in modern MMORPGs, from the billing system, the log-in process, the patcher, the character creation process, movement, combat, interface, etc. and at every chance they had, they made things needlessly complicated and unintuitive.

I don't know if you are looking for solutions, but what exactly is your problem with the interface?

Yup JP devs are out of touch.

What isn't the problem ?

Consolised controls, laggy response and unintuitive menu upon menu are a few of them, they plan to address the UI either when 2.0 comes out or before.

I don't have much faith though, take for example the latest addition to repairs (which I though was cool) but it doesn't work with the old style bazaar system... or when you remove weapons/armour change class, the replaced items stay up for repairs its just really akward and not thought out proper and seems to be the case with everything they add.

They added Search UI but left the old Party search just to confuse the hell out of everyone.

Market Search is really odd, takes ages to respond and unloads all the NPCs, If I buy an item it will stay on the list for 5 mins after I have bought it.

The latest problems they had with the billing made me wonder if they will ever get this game up to scratch. (You don't start accepting subsciptions when your system to do so isn't ready)

Jinko, I wasn't looking for a rant. That can be found quite easily anywhere. I am more interested in making the UI easier to use for him through instruction / tips. That is assuming he wants help and hasn't decided to stop playing for good.

Seems new mounts will have seperate theme music.

foxclon said:
The foreign side of the forum also just asked if they will have their own original music, so everyone is wondering about same thing, I checked in on this one and it will indeed be a new original music made by the sound team.
