Talk to NPC -> Obtain Goobue is pretty lame IMO. There should be at least a tiny bit of effort involved but I guess they're using this as a freebie for people who play before 2.0.

Is the game launching for anyone? I (finally) got through all of the updates and patches. Boot up a new game and I get this.

Seriously, the music is the best thing about the goobbue, closely followed by the sheer spectacle of riding the funny looking beast through the scenery.

Edit: it looks like all choco's get armour automatically.

In the patch notes,
An issue wherein certain graphical elements for damaged weapons were not displaying as intended.

There are some graphical changes when your weapon is damaged now?

I think paying for XIV is more difficult than most guidleves I've done.

It's actually easier to pay for K-Tera from what I can see. And I'm talking about a game where you need to go through Chinese RMTs to buy the Korean game time card which is sold only in Korea that you need to play a game entirely in Korean.

Not very similar at all apart from both being vaguely descended from EQ.

Edit: you just quit SWTOR, yes?

SWTOR : WoW :: wolf : dog
FFXIV : WoW :: cat : dog

So like more nible? i don't get comparisons like that >.<

Yes, just quit SWTOR. Good game for people new to the genre, or SW fans. For me, it's too much like WoW.

So my computers video card just died, and now im going through FFXIV withdrawal, so I'm looking at getting a new card. I am looking at something in the $250~ range that can run the game as good or better than my old 460. I've been looking at the 560 Ti but I've read several negative reviews that make me uneasy about getting it. Anyone have any advice as to how the game runs on a 560, or a similarly priced ATI card?

How similar is this game to World of Warcraft? What are the most notable differences?

The only real similarity is that they both follow some basic MMO conventions like the trinity of healing/tanking/DPS. WoW style games offer much more structure than FF MMOs. In WoW you can get the quest from the NPC that starts right in front of you and essentially follow the trail of quests all the way to max level. In FFXIV you essentially have a tutorial quest and then are left alone to fend for yourself. There's probably twice as many quests in any given WoW zone than in all of FFXIV. Leveling in FFXIV can be done solo through what are essentially the equivalent of repeatable daily quests or through straight grinding in parties. If grinding of any kind scares you then I'd stay far away.

2 dungeons, quests, recipe overhauls for alchemy and culinary, jobs and job related quests. I think they've got content covered for 1.21

Oh shit, Inns are going in in 1.21? I guess I missed that.

I still do a lot of leves and am always wanting for favor, so this is a thing I want.

Sounds great, had no idea about the inns either.

I'm loving this game. I'm a level 9 conjurer set in Gridania so far. Currently on the "Whispers in the Woods" quest.
The only thing I don't get is how Class ranks work. I need a required class level to rent a chocobo...can anyone explain to me how this works? I also understand I need to join a grand company?
Sorry. Noob questions.

Yeah Yoshida mentioned them in his second Live Producer letter complete with a picture of the Lominsa one. Its basically like the rent-a-mog house from FFXI where you had a private room to go to in another city. You may not be able to make it a 'home' like you will with the estates later in 2.0, but it is a private place you can rest that others can't come into or see. The actual room looks like a sizeably larger mog house, enough room for a table, windows etc. Somewhere way back in this thread there should be a picture of it.

Think at level 10 you can rent a chocobo, its not much faster then on foot, and it has a time limit but if you don't want to teleport its a nice alternative till you get a proper personal mount later. As for companies you should join one, but you won't be able to till you get lvl 25 on a War/Magic class. After you join a company and get 3k seals for that company, you can buy a personal chocobo license and then get a chocobo which you can call in the field at any time with the push of a button and its a decent 'click' faster then your character can run. Companies are this games factions. They are war parties you swear allegiance to. You get special leves when you join, can participate in the escort quests outside of your company's city (Which don't get too many people these days, just a warning) and you can get special consumables and gear using company seals. For instance at a 200 seals you can get field and crafting manuals which give you an EXP bonus for crafting or fieldcraft. The bonus is 50/25% respectively but cap out at 5k bonus, so 15k Crafting EXP and 25k Field EXP. Seals don't come in fast though outside of one time seal quests, so you might want to save your seals till there is something you want to spend them on.

Thank you. I think I will wait until I can get a personal chocobo license though. Now how do I exactly join a company? And how exactly do I level up a class? :x
I'm sorry. All I know so far is to "do battleleves, gain exp for level, go onto next quest". (First MMO. :( )

Its odd that we get inns before we get private lodgings. I guess it is a logistic thing though. It probably is easier to instance a rented room instead of customizable lodgings.

The inns are the bit where you rent a room and get increased focus regeneration rate, right? And not like the Kokba Hostel in ToAU that no one cared about?

I think they said something about staying in an Inn would increase the rate of Gaurdians Favour.

Letter XXIII

Real life stuff, nothing interesting.

Don't care what you been doing Yoshi, give us some info about the game.

Can you still only pay for a subscription via ClickandBuy? Not directly to SE the way you could with Final Fantasy XI?

They said its in the works but no eta was given when that will change, also FFXI 'used to be' direct credit card but that was when people had to use playonline, when SE forced people to shift FFXI paying over to Square-Enix account system late last year, they were/are greeted with the same options FFXIV is left with.

The reason they wanted to use click and buy is they wanted a 3rd party to handle credit liabilities thanks to all the account hacks done by RMT in FFXI. Its the reason the "3D card" was required for FFXI going forward. Hopefully we get word soon on being able to use direct credit cards, hell I'd take 3D card crap over click and buy any day, but since I did a 6 month subscription I don't need to worry about putting up with that BS again till June.
