The original merger plan had all shells breaking because everyone was technically heading to new worlds. That might change thanks to them going with something closer to option 2, but it still might happen anyways if they use new worlds, but just have certain servers get merged into those new worlds, the shells would break all the same.
Shells will be broken regardless of which plan they use.
Are they? No one mentioned that. :/
I already started too. I think I'll just keep at it and remake it again later. Not having to scroll through 100 inactives is much nicer. Lol
@Riposte, Ziz: I actually just named it Red Dot II. Lol Since the guildworks site is red dot and Renta made it all pretty I didnt name it something else. If you guys want to come up with a new name we can do that though.
@kiryogi: I need General Renta back though.
I'm waiting for the translation, but Yoshida made a huge post like 25 minutes ago detailing the possible 'new' plan for mergers and if I am reading it right it sounds like shells/friendlist etc. won't break. Its going to be 18 worlds converged into 9 brand new world (A+B = new world 1 etc, it was used as an example not what will happen) and might retain linkshell info and the name of the linkshell duplication will follow the same rules for rename that characters need to do. Anyways the 18 worlds would become 9 new worlds and then he opens up a 10th world for the EU population to go to or for others to start all new if they desired. He calls a small community server. People can also still go to another server if they so choose, but they will be defaulted to the server their community merged with.
Also it seems the new server name and naming scheme is going to be based on legacy items from the final fantasy series (tentative). This includes server names like Excalibur, Ridil, Ragnarok, Balmung, and Aegis etc. So be prepared to say farewell to Lindlbum etc.
Hello. This is Producer/Director Yoshida.
I am sorry for creating problems for everyone with the World Merge.
In regards to the World Merge specifications that were announced the other day, we have received a large amount of feedback from everyone and I would like to share with you the results of our re-exploration of the specifications. Since this is a forum post, and not the specifications itself, this is more of a concept, but until the official announcement is released, please check over these two posts in regards to the direction of the specifications.
■Simple Digest■
The specification overview is an extremely large amount of text, so I wrote out a brief version. If you just want to get a grasp of the content, then please just read over this post.
The foundation of the World Merge will be based on consolidating multiple existing Worlds as below:
A + B = New World
For both existing Worlds, Linkshells, Friend Lists, and Blacklists will remain intact. The Worlds will be consolidated from the current 18 Worlds into 10 Worlds, which includes a completely new World recommended for players in the EU time zone. The 10 new Worlds will have completely new names.
Also, at the same time as the World Merge, we will be temporarily accepting World Transfer applications, so if you are looking to change to a new World, take this opportunity to do so.
In regards to character names and Linkshell names, I have written about the handling of those at the end of the next post, so please check it out.
Arent the shells going to be broken either way?
Btw, monster bingo:
Lets see which one of these hits as a boss or job NM for the next patch.
EDIT: Forgot a ? by that Wyvern and a check by the Treant.
I forgot to ask, where is that pic from? Never seen it before and it seems like there might be some stuff from 2.0 in it. (I see Odin and the Cyclops monster from the 2.0 outline)
...I still cant believe XIV is already almost 2 years old.

...I still cant believe XIV is already almost 2 years old. I'm sure alot of those enemies were already planned for XIV long ago since its still titled Rapture. 2.0 on the other hand is probably a new thing altogether, and would have been released much further down the line...if the game hadn't fallen into the hole its currently climbing out of.
EDIT: Grand Company version of the fanfare is much better than the standard.
ANd its still not much better, yea yea I know 2.0 will save us.
Will it? After 2 years and a series of competitors which have dramatically pushed the genre forwards in different ways and unique ways?
SWTOR - redefined storytelling in the genre
Tera - redefined combat in the genre
GW2 - redefined player-defined dynamic world in the genre (?)
Oh, and also, Diablo III. It's amazing to me that this game has been out so long that it will have it's relaunch after D3 has already been released even though D3 has been "when it's finished" status for literally forever.
Honestly I play Final Fantasy Games (And even more in the case of their MMO's) for community and world building. Each new game is a blank slate with lots of possibilities but there is enough fun quirks and repeating themes that it feels familiar. As long as the base game gets fixed come 2.0 (including the world map) I will stick around for the long haul.
I have played SWTOR and enjoyed it, but if the entire game is just going to be based around a constantly updating storyline and little other features I am not going to stick around much longer. Hope there is more "MMO" like features along the way for it as I am sick of raiding end game structure and nothing else.
Also I have no interest in Diablo III, in fact I really don't have any present interest in anything coming out soon from Blizzard, and I have played WoW since its inception and got almost every Blizzard game day 1 and for some reason Diablo III just doesn't interest me.
For those who cant see the youtube video:
If you havent played the beta, yet enjoyed Diablo I and II, its Diablo through and through. Soundtrack might not stand up to the past two games...but that remains to be seen. I've been playing SWTOR for a bit, and I havent gotten bored yet...but i'm still low level.
Since they've already confirmed the two new raid areas are getting a trailer, hopefully the XIV team can put together a jobs trailer as well. Something like this, but done with in game locations/graphics similar to the Treasures of Aht Urhgan trailers.

Also, as we look to expand FFXIV, some of our visions for the future, such as releasing content based in Worlds from previous FF titles, will require us to use names previously reserved for Worlds as names of cities and other locations instead. (For example, we feel like Midgar has too powerful of an image associated with it to be used as a name for a World. Also, we would like to reserve the name Gold Saucer for the casino, not a world.)
Its a lot betterSo... is this game any good now?
The end game is believe it or not the other big reason I am sticking around for FFXIV and 2.0. Its not there right now, but the idea that there is going to be several very tangible paths to end game rewards (in the sense its not all raid or combat related) keeps me around. The vision to have non-instanced and customizable housing tied directly to crafting and gathering means a completely different type of gameplay I can work on when I don't feel like killing mobs or dungeon crawling, sometimes I just want to come on and talk with the community while still getting something casual and tangible done. I played Vanguard for over a year and it was always crafting that brought me back into the game despite it being an endless grind. The continued focus on just the 'heroic' gameplay of recent MMO's has just become stale for me. I want a mix of both casual and heroic gameplay.
So... is this game any good now?
We've mainly gotten infrastructure changes. We're playing now what we should've been playing at launch, minimum.

Woah. That is the greatest info about all the post lol.
In any case, the final choise they decided about merge is the best they could and they heard greatly the community opinion. Good job Yoshi.
edit:
yoshi gone mad today.. 13 posts in 1 hour lol °_°
Would be nice if they released more raid and job videos this week, fueling hype and speculation for next week, and then releasing the patch on the last week.

1. Character Name Overlap
The decision for which character keeps their original name when identical names clash on a World is based on whether they are active or not, rather than what date the character was created. If both are active, the character which was created earlier is given priority over the name (based on the time stamp at creation). All other characters with the same name will have to choose a new name.
2. Retainer Name Overlap
The decision for which retainer keeps their original name when identical names clash on a World is based on whether the player character associated with them are active or not, rather than what date the retainer was created. If both are active, the retainer which was created earlier is given priority over the name (based on the time stamp at creation). All other characters with the same name will have to choose a new name.
3. Linkshell Name Overlap
The linkshell with the most active characters at the time of the world merge will retain the name. All other linkshells will be temporarily renamed to have a number (such as 01) at the end of their current name. Players can then request to have their linkshell renamed through GM support.
They should put Namingway in the game so that people can change their names lol.
I support this.
EDIT: Wasnt there supposed to be a difference between inns and player residence?
We’re asking the team to come up with a way to spread out populations more evenly using in-game specifications and will decide whether to implement this after patch 1.21 or to hold off on it. The current server set up won’t allow us to merge markets, so our apologies for any inconvenience this causes. However, you can look forward to markets being consolidated in version 2.0 (still in development) instead!
Fucked if im going back to Gridania to log out each night lol.
With any luck they will give us the option to set our HP at the INN, like FF11 did with the mog house.
should give us a free port back to our inn to actually make them useful
