Is it possible to experience the story up until the current point? Or has each patch had completely different story quest? I just want to experience the story from the start up until this current umbral era or whatever it is if possible.
Also, thinking of going Bard.
As our community may be aware, FINAL FANTASY XIV offers 30-day and 90-day subscription periods. We wish to inform our players that we will be discontinuing the 90-day subscription option on Saturday, June 30, 2012. Beginning Sunday, July 1, 2012 we will only offer a 30-day subscription plan.

Information regarding the transition from the current game to version 2.0 will be announced on the Lodestone in the future.
One more thing to ask before I pull the trigger. Has the battle system been drastically improved? If there was one thing I couldn't stand about this game it was the battle lag. You'd hit an ability and about 4-5 seconds later the ability would fire.
Is the battle system more fast paced now? I thought it could use a faster style of combat.
What is combat like in 2.0?
Camp switches happen every 10 levels. For instance it goes Black Brush 1-8 -> Drybone 9-18 -> Horizon -> 19-28 -> GC and Regional Leves in Nanawa Mines and Nophica's well 29-38 -> Halatali Regional and GC leves and Broken Water for 39-50 in the Thanalan/Ul'Dah. For leves the "Stars" stand for the level the mobs show up as. Try to get even level or a lvl or two higher then you current character for higher EXP gain, EXP goes up at specific level intervals (like lvl 31, lvl 41 etc.) The star is an increase of level by 3 based on the default star level. 2 stars = lvl 13 mobs at Drybone for instance. Always add about 3-4 levels on to the camp level range if you want to do behest there since they will always start out as 5 levels above minimum to the camps default leve levels. Between levels you get milestone quests and missions to do. From grand company quests, to the instance dungeon at lvl 25, main mission line, class quests, job quests (starting at lvl 30) and repeat etc. up to lvl 45 where you gain 'access' to all the end game content but don't really get much use out of it till lvl 50.
hmm signed up for 90 day like last week and still no legacy...
Trying to reactivate this game is a mess. They really need to fix their website up or people will quit before they start playing. So there's the activation cost plus there's a cost for each individual character you want to play?
Edit: Does legacy tie to a character or account? I'm just really not sure what options to pick in account management to get legacy status up and running.
How are you checking for Legacy status?
WHen I signed up, I got Legacy status in 2 days but it took them 6 days to send me the email. If you havent already, check for the Legacy icon on the character select screen or on the SE ID account screen. If its still not there, contact SE. They might say something like "youll get Legacy status towards the end of the 90 days" but question that too in order to be sure.
All you have to do is pay them for 90 days. Once you get to the payment screen, select the 90 day option, and the system does the rest of the work. Itll factor in any and every cost. I think the total is roughly 27 bucks.

Grand Companies
You can join a Grand Company and perform a chain of quests that will earn you company seals and rank. You can purchase exclusive items with the seals and unlock more items and quests as you raise your rank. Items include a personal chocobo (faster than the rental one), chocobo armor, aetherpass (teleport within cities), armor, weapons, potions, etc.
Some Grand Company quests are required in order to do things like the "Primal Battles" and some instances.
Grand Company quests appear to be progressing the storyline forward instead of the main scenario quests now (complete with cutscenes). You can start doing Grand Company quests by entering each respective headquarters, found at the Market Wards entrance and speaking to the appropriate NPC(s) within.
Jobs
You can unlock specialized jobs and perform quests for each job that unlock their abilities and special armor. Jobs require a combination of a level 30 class and a level 15 class (e.g. level 30 Archer and level 15 Conjurer to unlock Bard).
Hopefully these quests are not a huge joke like the current class quests. I read that some of the final quests may require a full party of 45+ members.
Artifact Weapons
Location: East Shroud (50,32)
NPC: Gerolt
Quest: "A Relic Reborn"
Artifact Weapons have been added. These sound difficult to obtain.
Achievements
You can unlock different categories of achievements and some of them give you neat rewards. For example, leveling all battle jobs to 50 awards you with a crown. I have only unlocked the questing achievements so far but they appear to be retroactive as I immediately unlocked the ones that I previously met the requirements for. The NPC location to unlock each category is listed in the achievements menu.
Inns
You can reserve a room at the Inn in each of the three major cities. Inns allow you to gain "rested experience points" bonuses and allow you to store special items in the Armoire and replay cutscenes from any quests in the game.
I have a ton of "seasonal" items and special event items but it seems like it would only allow me to store my Asuran Armguards and the Onion gear. *shrug*
Gobbue Mount
Special mount that can only be obtained prior to version 2.0. You can get this for free from an NPC once you have any level 30 class. Not as fast as the chocobo but handy for getting around until you get your personal chocobo and fun to ride. (dat jiggle)
Personal Chocobo
You can obtain a chocobo mount by doing Grand Company quests and unlocking the rank Private Third Class. There are more quests you can do once obtaining your chocobo that will allow you to obtain "Barding" or chocobo armor. This is strictly for appearance only for now...
Caravan Security Missions
Location: Camp Bloodshore, Camp Tranquil, Camp Horizon
Requirements: Grand Company, Private Third Class (or higher)
Level: 25-45?
Protect a caravan of chocobos as you escort them to their destination. Chocobos will be attacked and can eventually run away. You can entice them back with special items (gysahl greens?). You receive a reward at the end of the quest, dependent on how well you protected the caravan (smaller reward if chocobos run away).

Location: The Black Shroud
Related Quest: ... don't recall the name but there is a Grand Company quest for this.
This dungeon is interesting. There appears to be multiple bosses and you have to find something called "photocells" which unlock different areas in the dungeon. The dungeon is timed so you can't waste too much time running around trying to find the key items. I'm not sure if you can fight more than one boss here since time ran out after we killed the first boss and it seemed like the dungeon ended.

Could anyone explain me the armor/gear system. I could wear lvl 41 gear, but I would get a penalty for wearing that gear, right? What if even with the penalty it would have higher defence/atk and I could get the weapon/armor for really cheap, would it be worth buying and using? Or am I missing something?
So if I'm reading this right, I just got the game a few days ago and registered for 30 days and stuff but I'm in the free trial period. I can just go and sign up for 90 days and I'll have the legacy thing?
We have received questions from the community regarding when they need to begin playing FINAL FANTASY XIV if they wish to qualify for the Legacy Campaign.
In order to fulfill the requirements for the Legacy Campaign, a player must register his/her copy of the game no later than Thursday, May 31, 2012, and have subscribed for a minimum of 90 days beyond the conclusion of your free trial period.
Information regarding the transition from the current game to version 2.0 will be announced on the Lodestone in the future.
Does being in the Alpha and Beta count? I've got a few friends that are wanting to get in but only played Beta (but it's still on their accounts). If you just got the game a few days ago, it sounds like you registered after the 5/31 cutoff and doesnt sound like you can get Legacy now.

Wtf the way it reads up there it seems like anyone that started playing since may and is on trial period right now can get it as long as they do 90 day sub. >;( They need to spell it out better because I'm confused. If you just got the game a few days ago, it sounds like you registered after the 5/31 cutoff and doesnt sound like you can get Legacy now.
Well if you were playing since May then you qualify. If you registered the game before may 31st you can pay for 90-days and qualify for legacy status.Wtf the way it reads up there it seems like anyone that started playing since may and is on trial period right now can get it as long as they do 90 day sub. >;( They need to spell it out better because I'm confused.
That's lame. We got a $3 savings paying for 90-days versus paying monthly. That's only $12 savings a year but it adds up if you're in it for the long term. They probably don't want us legacy members getting too good a deal.
Can anyone confirm that the levelling curve is a lot quicker now? My character was moved to another server off Istory and onto Gungnir and I potentially would like to reroll onto Sargeantas with the GAF LS but I want to know how long it would take to catch up to the same spot...Currently have all the DoW/DoM classes somewhere between level 15-20 and have miner at 22.
Thanks in advance.

I registered the game early May and my free trial ended on June 9th, I then paid for 90-days and got legacy status.

Well that's for combat classes, crafting classes though got incredibly fast for EXP with the right abilities. Your EXP is now based on the level of item vs your own level times your quality multiplier. Its possible with the right set of abilities and gear to get 2.5k-3.2k EXP PER synth, and that doesn't even include rested EXP or Manual EXP, with those I have gotten as high as 6.2k EXP with an item 10 levels above my range and 350% EXP modifier + rested EXP
The amount of time it takes per level is actually pretty stagnant (If you level with leves). The EXP "Curve" hasn't changed, but EXP in the lower levels is less then what you get in the higher. For instance on EXP leves you get a proportional 'bonus' at the end depending on the level you finish the leve and the amount of time it takes to complete (This is only for regional, local leves are just based on your turn in level). But on top of this the EXP modifier increases at specific intervals to greatly increase your EXP based on your level and the level of the mob. The first one happens at lvl 31 I think, and then lvl 41 after that. When I was leveling DRG in a plvl group the EXP from my lvl 30 and lvl 31 was a dramatic increase, like 150+ more EXP on each kill when I was already getting 500 EXP a kill before that (Not including chain bonus).
Personally I find lvl 1-25 to go by fairly slow unless I am getting plvled, back before the big leve EXP change it was possible to get lvl 1-6 on a single leve, but now the difficulty of the leve is based on mob level rather then a straight EXP bonus. At most you will get to lvl 3 now on a single leve and it might take 4 whole leves to get to lvl 6. Personally I think this is for the best otherwise those lvl 1-10 mobs are meaningless when you can bypass them in 15 minutes on any class but it does make it a bit longer. I'd say for a new character it might take 7 hours to go lvl 1-25 right now, but if you got a large storage of leves and participate in behest whenever possible you can make that go faster. EXP parties, if you can get one started at that lvl, are also really good, but most people don't party till minimum lvl 30, and most its lvl 32-39, after that its SB parties where lvl 41+ assist battles designed for lvl 50's and you can party with lvl 50's for awesome EXP.

What skill combination would that be ?
Conjurers have a skill called radiance that they are supposed to get at lvl 10. How do I get that skill?
I hit the leves lit and was trying to level my THM the oldfashioned grind way but got annoyed by contantly running out of mp. I was hoping radiance would fix my problems. What's the best soluton to my mana problem? Blissful Mind seems to be Conjurer only too =(
Allard, thanks for the great help you have provided to me and others in this thread. Are you aware of any resource/web-site that has kept up to date with the overhauls? A lot of the resources I'm using are incredibly out-dated and haven't been updated with the jobs system and are still carrying these old abilities.
Gamerscape (Eorzeapedia) is fairly up to date as far as general information goes. Sometimes its not fully up to date but its just a matter of them not getting to it yet.
http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Main_Page
The lodestone for FFXIV (The official page) has a lot of the more general info updated up to latest patch including recipes for the crafts.
For gear and recipes I recommend these two sites
http://mozk-tabetai.com/
http://www.mooglebox.com/includes/index.php
For up to date guides. ffxivpads.com is pretty busy these days but you might find some old ones in there so keep an eye on the posting date.
Another source that isn't too bad is http://www.ffxiv-db.com/ but lately its been loading pretty slow for me. Its a good database for current quest content (but not guides for quests) as well as gear and recipes.
I can't seem to find better gear. I'm still using the mage robe you buy at the adventures guild. Is that being changed to? The gear system I mean.
Much appreciated.
Try the market wards.
Where are those? I'm still in Gridius Forest. Have been for days. I found the airship but have yet to go anywhere. I only have a level 8 pug and 7 thm.
There should be market wards in the main cities. Gridannia/Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa. Head to one of those cities and google a map to find the market wards (sorry not too familiar with it myself). But they are functionally similar to an AH just 100x less convenient. There you can browse for the items you want and check prices. Last time I played you had to go to Ul'dah because that's where all the players put their retainers but I'm not so sure any more I think they might have been linked.
lol it would be so funny if i dont get legacy. i paid 90 days like 2 weeks ago.
First and foremost, to help clarify one of the main points of confusion that is popping up:
To be eligible for the Legacy campaign, you must pay for 90 days cumulative between January 6th and the start of version 2.0 beta testing. (As stated in the Legacy Campaign announcement)
Today's announcement was to notify players that the 90-day subscription option will be removed at the end of this month. Since that option may affect how some qualify for Legacy, we listed a few examples in the announcement.
It seems that those may have been unclear, so we prepared a more in-depth FAQ for all.
I have paid for 90 cumulative days of subscription since the start of billing; does that mean I qualify for the Legacy campaign?
Yes. You can confirm your Legacy status using one of three methods:
We will periodically send out notification emails to those that qualify for the Legacy campaign.
The Legacy logo will be displayed when logging into the Square Enix Account Management System and visiting the "FINAL FANTASY XIV" service account section found within the "Select Service" menu.
The Legacy logo will be displayed in the upper left corner of the Character Select screen when logging into the game.
I've paid for 30 cumulative days of subscription since the start of billing, what do I need to do to qualify for the Legacy campaign?
You will need to pay a further 60 days of subscription before the start of the version 2.0 beta test to be able to fulfill the requirements needed to qualify for the Legacy Campaign.
