There is a translation done for that already :) Reinheart did it on the official forums.

http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...JP-to-English)?p=727006&viewfull=1#post727006

Thanks for attempting it otherwise! And yeah it is nice to hear some of the comments Yoshida made about it. Especially the "Is this the debug version?" comment from playing FFXIV for the first time after he took the job XD.

Excellent! The guy has some weird issues with his translation (ex. "real time writing" should be "real-time lighting"), but overall it looks okay.

I'm particularly happy that he plans on making the controls using mouse and keyboard a seamless and intuitive experience for someone coming from other popular MMORPGs.

He did that on the fly while at work and because of how large it is he didn't do much time checking things, he mainly translates for fans on the forums and usually hopes an official source or another translator takes a crack at it XD

Just wondering, was a mail system ever added to the game or are we waiting for 2.0 for that?

Unfortunately 2.0, but they already confirmed the functionality is coming since in the first batch of screens released two weeks ago we had a moogle mail carrier in it!

So I splurged and bought myself a Vanya hat and robe.

Started doing the Grand Company quests today. SO_MUCH_WALKING, ugh.

Got recruit status on all three and finished the first 500 badge mission in Ul'Dah. Need to do the 2 others and then I can pledge to one company, correct?

Are there any other way to earn badges other than doing the 2 - 4 people dungeon quests?

Edit: Tackled some lvl 35 crabs as a lvl 28 THM, I could easily kill them but they did this one attack that took like 80% hp from me. Otherwise I think I could actually level on those things. Haven't really thought about it much but does Dark Seal increase the chance of me landing Blind on an enemy with Blizzara? Might make sense to start with that and hope that Blind will get me a few extra dodges...

Bind, not Blind, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't (it does, I believe, make it harder for your target to "partially evade" your spell, preventing you from comboing).

Guess it's meant for tackling higher monsters in party play as I pretty much never miss a spell. All the cooldowns on spells like that are much too long too for any kind of tactical play. I'm pretty much just stuck spamming thunder and thundara.

When checking the old skills it seems like THM had much more options, it's a shame they limited them so much :/

If anyone needs to know, I cancelled my account just now. I just don't have the time or interest to invest in an MMO. "Andel Weisse" signing off...so I am guessing it will open a spot in the LS.

Can you log on and drop the pearl if you haven't already, as we can't remove inactive players from the Linkshell.

Anyone know of any good Armorer guides? Im trying to come up with something to make my leveling easier when I finally plunk down to do it but its hard to tell which guides are up to date and which are old. Im currently level 25 and plan on doing a lot of leves to rank up but theyll only get me so far.

Any patch notes?

No notes yet.

Having some difficulty with the Black Mage quest for Flare. I was able to solo up until this quest but there are too many enemies to tackle at once on this one. I tried sleeping half of the mobs with Sleep and Sleep Potions and also used Mega Potions and Ethers to keep my HP & MP up along with my HP and MP abilities, but I can't seem to beat it alone at my current level. I tried putting together a party but was unable to do so.

My linkshell no longer exists (most remaining members reformed into a new "End Game" LS that now requires multiple level 50 characters to join) and the number of NA players on the Aegis server is greatly outnumbered by the Japanese. Not many people are shouting for parties or answering any requests. I checked the Community forum and there are several posts in the Aegis section with no replies to anything. I guess I'll definitely be transferring when given the option.

I'll just continue with the company quests and crafting for now and level my way to 50 and then try again. I was hoping to unlock all my BLM goodies before I started leveling that job again. :(

Is there a point to buying the L21 underwear? It sells for a high price even though it's only a 5 Def upgrade.

Also the idea of going my entire adventuring life never changing my underwear seems really hilarious.

What's your name? I am on Aegis server.

1.23 will be the last.

you mean 1.23c :) Yoshida already confirmed there will be small lettered updates after 1.23 is released probably to stagger the 'radical changes' events.

Both me and my gf got destroyed in our respective instances.... Gridania quest... Spirit of the Wood. She was a Thauma and I was a Lancer, both level 13.

Running away, fighting head on, staying away while using the elemental wards. All yielded the same result: Death

This doesn't feel like a quest you should be able to take on at level 13 tbh

I solo'd it at 19 Lancer. It helps if you talk to the O-App dude when the Spirit changes elements.

Yup, I did that as well...

Sucks that this particular instance is one party member online so I can't even get help with it from anyone :( would help to have a conjurer or someone.

Ah well. Guess I have to do some more Guildleves... or level up a Conjurer since they are supposed to be good at soloing this.

If you're super careful you can just let the NPCs do most of the work and just get a few shots in. If one dies another comes to replace him before long.

The main mission is supposed to soloable on any class including crafting and gathering classes. If you are having trouble doing it the combat way try the crafting/gathering way.

Use the wards on just the allies, don't use it on yourself (It doesn't work on you), try to stay out of aggro/damage range, just let the allies do it. This battle was originally designed for a lvl 15 as that was when it used to be available (it was hard using the combat method at that level, at lvl 13 its suicide) so as a combat class you can't do much that relies in combat for this battle right now if you go in at the level the quest was given, just don't participate in the battle in any form outside of putting up the right ward on your allies, the allies will take care of it.

Basically every single one of the main mission lines are not only supposed to be soloed, but its possible to solo it on ANY class including crafting and gathering, and as such there is usually a way to win while getting minimal damage or at least need zero offensive ability of your own.

Tacoface, someone in the LS should be able to make you new undergarments for free.

Don't buy shit in the wards! Everyone has too many mats and will make you free stuff if you swallow your pride and ask!

Wait, what is the crafting/gathering way?

In any case, I try and keep away from the enemy while the NPCs are fighting but even with the wards, they end up running away and then coming back but eventually the spirit of the wood locks onto me (either when it changes elements or when I'm far far away... when the NPCs have all gone, once an NPC has returned, it's too late as the enemy has locked onto me and kills me in a couple of hits no matter how far I run it seems)

It does feel like a suicide mission tbh

edit: yeah, whatever I do, eventually it comes after me (even when I am at the far side of the area) and won't stop. at all.

edit 2: yeah, it's a case of, his name eventually turns to orange no matter what I do and he goes after me til I dies.

edit 3: well that was weird... for some reason, being near the boss/the party members means he won't randomly target me. (for good measure, I use the elements on me only, not the NPC party members) but when I am far away, he will eventually go after me

Weird o_O but at least I beat it. :D

To tell the truth I have never done the final grid mission, just heard about it from others. I completed the other 2 main mission lines (1 on main, the other an alt). Here is a walkthrough for the crafter/gatherer strategy Eorzeapedia see if it helps.

Beat this as fisherman, no fighting or curing required. when the elemental changes elements talk to Brother O-App-Pesi he will ask you what element you want to ward against. select whatever element the mob has changed to. then target each npc, use the menu and cast ward. talk back to Brother O-App-Pesi when the element changes and repeat. Dont panic if one of the NPC's fighting dies, a new one will join in the fight shortly.

Basically you not only need to put up the wards, you need to put the correct one up on each NPC by talking with what I assume is the Padjal (Horned kid) NPC and picking the element the elemental has turned into.

In other news Naoki Yoshida is going to give a stage demonstration for the 'future of FFXIV' at Paris as part of the Japan Expo. He will do the demonstration and sign books. A rep on the French part of the forum said it would be possible to bring cameras when a poster asked about it, so maybe in a week or two we might see 2.0 in motion even if its only camera footage (Just like how FFXIV in a playable form was first showcased at Gamescon 2009 by over the shoulder camera footage!)

Strange when I got mind the GM didn't even meet me he just added the loot to my inventory remotely lol.

Kind of funny he ignored the RMT though, you should have said something lol.

So .. Ifrit extreme Oo

Looks like they are doing exactly what I expected them to do, I even mentioned it when 1.22b came out. To complete the AF weapons you will need to participate in some capacity EVERY endgame related currently to get items forge the new weapon culminating in something gained from the Primal Battles, but instead of a new item dropped, they just made a whole new battlefield. Looks like now people will actually be forced to participate in escort, lvl 45 Behest, faction leves and lastly Dhzamel Hold, on top of Materia crafting, Hamlet, the other 2 raids and grand company seals! Basically Mythic Weapon lite since It required you to 'perfect' all the ToAH content to get a mythic weapon.

Also speaking of company seals... wtf at the second Leutenant rank up for seals. We go from 4.5k needed to rank up to 25k? Damn it, been spending all my seals on crafting manuals because I didn't plan to get the AF weapon in 1.0 and they pull this ; ;. Got a feeling Escort is going to be 'fairly' populated tonight after maintenance is done, that and Toto-rak, goodness knows im going to spamming that with my alt, GC seals and company quests is the only thing I have been actually keep up with in terms of content! Also so getting the company weapons, those look hot as hell visually.

I think Relics were their desperate attempt to keep people doing stuff until 2.0 beta.

Sadly I think most people will look at the requirements and think screw that and go back to crafting.

I suppose its nice to have a long term goal in place for when 2.0 comes out, but the amount of work makes me shake my head in disapproval, SE need to get with the times, the days for long drawn out time sinks in MMO's has long since pasts, It makes me wonder if Yoshi really knows what he is doing.

Hamlet defense and the whole Relic weapon situation feels like rushed content to fill the gap. But I really hope it's just rushed content and not their idea of 2.0 content.

Hamlet defense introduces a few new mechanics but they were not properly tested or thought because once again class stacking all over the place in the DoM/W area with boring gameplay. Probably the battle system and the job system as now can't handle a poorly thought tower defense.

And they said they will change somehow the relic requeriments but I want them to change the type o requeriments. Double melding several millions gil gear? the fuck. It's not because most of them relies on luck. A item like a relic weapon deserves unique well thought content. A good storyline with dunegons, cool fights and so. Made it really dificult or even give it a drop system. Just made something more interesting that what's now.

I don't know why you think its long past when every MMO including WoW still does it. AF weapons were clearly meant to be the relic/mythic version of an item (Or legendary in WoW) where only a few select people with the help of others are meant to get them. It is content for a VERY select crowd and was always advertised as such. Having said that I also don't think its that big of a time sink, certainly no Mythic or Relic weapon, you only need a handful of items from each event, and the stuff the requires a grind (GC Seals) can be done in a day if you really work on it using escort and Toto-rak or hell the DH raid NM items too. It just feels like too much work since there is so many parts of it you have to do but it seems very doable to me, and if didn't already decide to wait till 2.0 to get them, I would probably working on one right now, it helps that I can already craft 4 out of the 7 Class weapons XD. It just feels like such a huge timesink because there is nothing really else in the game right now that requires anything close to this much effort.

Yoshida mentioned in 2.0 interviews the Legacy items requirements would change season to season but every possible 'requirement' that he said might be possible with the Legacy items are right now in this quest right now. He mentioned upgrading a bought weapon and that with specific stat set could 'apply' for the right to get legacy status and then maybe another season that might need materia crafted or specific drops. Well look here! a hard to get weapon that requires 1) Crafting Involvement 2) Materia Crafting 3) Specific stat ranges (Very specific materia slotted) on top of all the other stuff. Its not like he didn't warn us these legacy items were going to be for a select group of people. Furthermore the legacy items are all based on 1.0 content, the next 'season' will likely be based on the culmination of all the new content introduced in 2.0 which probably won't show up till 9 months after 2.0 is out at best. Basically he is giving us exactly what he claimed we would be getting for these items. Maybe they should have waited till 2.0 to release this stuff and base it off new stuff in 2.0, but its out now, its the first season and these are not unsurprising requirements, he told us last year it was going to be like this.

A kick in the balls it hurts even if they told you they would kick you.

I had veeeery slight hopes of getting a relic weapon, now I have none. If they wanted to handle it to a small number of ppl they just should have attached it to some kind of ridiculous achivement and deal with it.

You shouldn't say you're gonna modernize FF XIV for 1 year and do this 3 months before 2.0 release. Guild Wars is a several years old game and handles this kind of shit way better.

I was just poking around the dats to see the new weapons in this patch and I noticed that the BRD AF weapon is not only a harp, but it's quiver is an instrument of some sort also.

I'm surprised no one else noticed this.

[edit] Damn. All of the new Grand Company weapons look fantastic. More than that, they are also practical to use being in a lot of cases second only to Relics.

I don't know why you think its long past when every MMO including WoW still does it.

How does Wow do it ?

WoW releases content faster than people can complete it half the time so its not in their interest to make it inconveniently time sinky.

Modern MMO's have been going for a more casual style of game play and something like these relics are the complete opposite of that and something out of the hand book of FF11.

Not really looking for people to agree with me though, just stating my opinion :D

AF weapons were clearly meant to be the relic/mythic version of an item (Or legendary in WoW) where only a few select people with the help of others are meant to get them.

Actually no, AF and primal weapons are more akin to rare items, so that makes Relic more akin to Epics doesn't it ?

Legendary weapons in WoW are completely luck based with minuscule drop rates that's not the same as farming for months, jumping through hoops and then failing miserably because the system is set up to be against you.

The closest thing we have to legendary in this game at the moment is Darklight and loads of people have that so its not anywhere near on the scale of rarity.

It's all about conditioning your player base also, you don't go giving your players easy loot and then all of a sudden raise the bar so high nobody can even see the bar anymore.

People in WoW or FF11 know they will never obtain a Relic/Mythic/Legendary or whatever the equivalent is, but so far FFXIV has been a case of people getting what they want "relatively" easily (primals and darklight being a slight exception but still fairly obtainable) and now all of a sudden they expect us to fulfil obnoxious challenges to get the latest loot, I appreciate that Relics are supposed to be extremely hard to obtain but up until now this game has lacked that.

It's why so many people are crying out about it because there is no middle ground of difficulty its either easy or completely retarded.

No sane gamer would look at the relic challenge and say wow cool that's awesome I can't wait to start on mine, especially if they truly understood the amount of work and luck it required to get it.

Going back to Wow, legendary items are more like "Holy Fuck a legendary dropped", This relic stuff you actually have to be actively working towards and even then luck is waiting just around the next bend with its steel-toe capped boots on ready to kick you square in the balls.

Sorry about the rant I'm pretty passionate about old school loot mechanics, luck based nonsense and ridiculous time-sinks being in modern MMO's.

Why would they base such a huge amount of development time around such a small group of players anyway, I mean who really has time to do this with family, work and real life stuff ?
