The Lodestone isn't too helpful with the details on this. Is there a required minimum level to participate?

I don't think so. Just talk to the person and get a Yukata and the quest then go where he sends you and /firedance at the giant Bombs.

I didn't get any sort of reward for doing that though even though I followed the instructions given by the person and my screen flashed with 'Duties Complete' or something.

Anyway, I'll be on later on. Anyone able to give me a Pearl? I'm Zomba Thirteen.

No lv required. You have to do only /firedance toward the bombs lol Take the quest near the aetherythe in any city and then go near (usually) the first camp of every city.

So I haven't played since a couple months after initial launch, but I've been waiting anxiously to dive back in for 2.0. Well, I've decided I want to be on board at least a little before it happens, so I'm downloading now. Gonna start a new character. What server is most of GAF on? Is it Lindblum?

Logged in and got my Yukata (Grey), Gold Shorts, and Lord's Clogs. Going to stock up on some more ash to get the other colors and some fireworks.

I'm going to try and put some time in this weekend and see if I can finish getting my BLM abilities, do some more GC quests, and try to unlock some achievements that are going away in 2.0.

Sargatanas. The old server names are not on used anymore since mergers of worlds happened last year or so.

Oi, I didn't realize I had to do so many of these GC quests 3 times, I thought it was just the first 2-3. Gonna need a lot of anima...

I'm thinking I'll volunteer for the XIV 2.0 OT (a first time thing). However I would need assistance from a really good guy for images, an artist, w/e. I would want it to be the amazing, about a hundred times better than the thread I made for the legacy campaign. I have some time if I do it, so that's cool.

I have some ideas in my head. I will say one of them involves high-quality gifs of Hildebrand.

EDIT: Listening the obvious "The world is about to end" "song" added in 1.23 reminded of the game's opening cinematic. Like for Limsa we saw Leviathan didn't we? Seems like forever ago. And I forgot whatever happened to the traitor in the Ul'dah main storyline. But what I was actually thinking about was the moment where you hear "Hear... Feel... Think..." and you then see a vision of fireballs raining from the sky. It reminds me a lot of when Dalamund rains fireballs in the 2.0 trailer. Maybe it was directly referring to it? It also makes me wonder about the ultimate storyline of XIV which may or may not still exist... hearing that voice is an odd existential moment in a game which otherwise plays it straight. With the way Echo works and how we are probably going to be sent "beyond space and time"... I don't know. I wonder if they will take the storyline somewhere weird. I hope they do. A game I played recently, which I won't name for the sake of spoilers, did that and it paid off.

EDIT: I hope cutscenes in 2.0 are more of this quality:

One of the new (unused) tracks in last update.

This would be eery if it became the overworld music for the last week/month before servers go down ._.

er Forgot the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZITw3Ub-K0&feature=player_embedded#

I might as well ask here, but is there a way to edit posts? I'm using a different skin but I've never found a simple "edit button"

This would be pretty cool, especially in those areas where you can hear the empire's airships flying overhead super loudly like in Coerthas.

I really expect the ramp-up to 2.0 to get better and better. I hope I can accomplish half of what I'd like to.

Yea it looks like my neogaf skin is the root of the problem. No edit function. [link for large image]

Oh well I'll get that fixed, back on topic! Finally got my unfinished Stardust rod! Now to kill 1400 mobs ._.

wtf why are you not on our server, and along with buttons. That's two good players we could potentially have yet instead we are stuck with Bobbin.

I'd say the fact they have unfinished relics will point to the reason they are not on your server :p, for some its easy to start up a new character but for some of us we have put too much into our current characters to think about moving, especially when we got so many other friends we stick with. In 2.0 I might make a new character on GAF server but for now I am perfectly happy on Aegis :)

Started on Rabanastre (now Durandal) because my group of importer friends from FFXI agreed that it was our go to server. Now I'm mostly Ronrey since they all quit till (i hope) 2.0 hits D;

I don't exactly have a static for this stuff. I'm relying mainly on JP PUG groups at night to do the raids and stuff. Cutters Cry has been so far the hardest part, but luckily I managed to get 2 groups in a row that successfully managed to get me the 5 salts I needed.

I think we'll be pretty active on Sargatanas once 2.0 rolls around, so you should consider a server transfer then!

Ah. I'm on the Cutters Cry step. Will have first attempts later this week, I'm feeling good about my group, we blew through AV in one night 3/3. That's crazy that you can PUG JPN groups, our server is very very closed off. Even American/European shells are super closed off.

Google Translate, +7 years of dealing with JP on FFXI = good enough to play the silent character, answering only when needed to :3

+ on the spot translations by yours truly.

I should probably mention before he does that my Relic was entirely funded by him :)

I play with a bunch of Japanese players and we're up to Ifrit now. I was hoping we'd finish it off this week but due to the nature of work situations for a lot of us we're kind of held back. Obon is around the corner too so that's ~ a week of no progress almost! My former LS now has an innumerable amount of relics, it's a good gil sink if anything I say!

So I was told Dragoon is in this game now and has been for a while, so that has peaked my interest. I have a few questions before I decide to resub soon if you don't mind answering.

I'm going to separate this into two sections, one for those who have played FFXI, and just general questions about FFXIV.

FFXI Veteran Questions

1. Are there weapons like Relic/Mythic/Empyrean in this game?

2. In terms of time consumption, how is it compared to FFXI? Like, FFXI makes a chore out of everything, does that carry over to this?

3. Compared to FFXI, is this game more welcoming to new players? And how much?

Questions

1. Is Dragoon high tier in this game?

2. Is obtaining the Dragoon Artifact armor difficult?

3. Did they fix where you couldn't use alt-tab or CTRL + ALT + DELETE without it crashing?

4. How do you get into parties in this game?

5. Did they ever implement a Auction House?

6. What is the most popular server?

7. Does the game still have a decent player base?

FFXI Veteran Questions

1. Are there weapons like Relic/Mythic/Empyrean in this game?

Yes there is

2. In terms of time consumption, how is it compared to FFXI? Like, FFXI makes a chore out of everything, does that carry over to this?

It's a mix some things are very tedious and others aren't

3. Compared to FFXI, is this game more welcoming to new players? And how much?

I would say about the same but if you get in with the Linkshell you should have no problems. Descriptions and getting starting can be very confusing for many. Best to just ask around it will make your life easier.

Questions

1. Is Dragoon high tier in this game?

Yes, Dragoon is obtained after bringing one class to 30 and another to 15. You still need to be 50 (cap) in the end to complete the Dragoon gear though

2. Is obtaining the Dragoon Artifact armor difficult?

Not really just takes some time

3. Did they fix where you couldn't use alt-tab or CTRL + ALT + DELETE without it crashing?

Not sure but I don't think so

4. How do you get into parties in this game?

Can ask in the LS, shout for parties in town and they have a search function.

5. Did they ever implement a Auction House?

Nope, still using retainers and to be honest it sucks a whole lot.

6. What is the most popular server?

We are all on Sargatanas but I cannot speak for the other servers

7. Does the game still have a decent player base?

Right now the player base is abit scarce but if you are a new player you won't have problems finding exp/leveling parties within our LS/

Hopefully that helps

FFXI Veteran Questions

1. Are there weapons like Relic/Mythic/Empyrean in this game?

Yes Relic weapons are in, they aren't impossible but they require a good group and enough time and money to get.

2. In terms of time consumption, how is it compared to FFXI? Like, FFXI makes a chore out of everything, does that carry over to this?

It is much easier compared to XI but time consumption is there. Can't tell how it will be going forward in 2.0 but content is content

3. Compared to FFXI, is this game more welcoming to new players? And how much?

at the moment, not so much. Very little thought out tutorials from the original team still remain in game (as far as i know), but come 2.0, this should be fixed as there will be an in your face tutorial for about everything the FIRST time you do anything new.

Questions

1. Is Dragoon high tier in this game?
I think so, yes. After their buff, they are pretty solid DDs. But depends on the content. Some content leans more towards mages or other DD types (like MNK for their magic fists). Don't let this be a detriment as every job has its strengths and weaknesses.

2. Is obtaining the Dragoon Artifact armor difficult?
It isn't difficult, but it isn't a cake walk either. In terms of toughness, I'd rate it 6/10. You just need a decent group to do it (like for any artifact). The parts from raids isn't really tough either, as you can go with 4 folks and it is usually just near the entrance of the raid.

3. Did they fix where you couldn't use alt-tab or CTRL + ALT + DELETE without it crashing?
I believe this is a DX9 problem or something plaguing since XP. Once 2.0 hits, this shouldn't be a problem as I've read it will be DX10 minimum (with DX11 to be looked at after launch of 2.0).

4. How do you get into parties in this game?
NAs typically shout for parties in Uldah. JPs use shout and the in built recruitment system. I Think this will change slightly in 2.0 but I can't guess how.

5. Did they ever implement a Auction House?
Market Wards have a built in search system where you can purchase directly from the interface (that incurs a very minor fee based on purchase price). It almost works like an auction house, yet it doesn't. A proper one will be added 2.0.

6. What is the most popular server?
Uh I can't comment on that, Lindblum is the GAF server I think? Ask around

7. Does the game still have a decent player base?
I feel so. It feels like more folks signed on after the legacy status was announced. I expect it to increase a lot come 2.0 if the beta goes better than what it was with 1.0

Thanks for the responses, they are appreciated.

The reason I asked about Relic/Mythic/Empyrean is that I was never able to obtain one because it was just too brutal and time consuming. Even as far as I am in FFXI now, it's still out of my league.

1. How would you compare obtaining Relic in FFXIV to FFXI?

2. In FFXI if you don't have a Relic you'll miss out on tons of parties, is that the same in this?

Judging from the responses so far, it seems best to just wait for 2.0. The reason I'm interested in FFXIV right now is that I'm rather tired of the outdated shackles FFXI has and the poor design choices for some things. I'd rather not step into another game which does what FFXI does.

1. Relics are much more reasonable to attain in this, I think, as you don't need to collect thousands of items to complete them. There's a bit of RNG, but most of the hardest steps are skill-based.

Here's a rough list of the steps involved.

  • Get 9 seals from Hamlet Defense - Relatively easy, but time-consuming. If you invest money in it, you can get them faster, though.
  • Buy a key item with 25,000 Grand Company seals - Easy
  • Double meld a class weapon with a specific materia type - Can be random and expensive, depending on the materia and if you can make everything yourself
  • Complete three super speed-runs of Aurum Vale - Doable, but need a good group
  • Complete three super speed-runs of Cutter's Cry - Doable, but need a good group
  • Get a perfect Caravan Escort run - Ridiculously easy
  • Do a high-level Behest - Ridiculously easy
  • Defeat Ifrit Extreme - Hard
  • Defeat Garuda in 5 minutes or less - Hard

Pretty much everything in this, BTW, is done with a group of eight people.

2. Uh, looks like I left XI at a good time? Because that is ridiculous. Although I guess with the new level cap you can solo them?

But Relics are still very new to XIV and each server only has a handful of them. So even if someone did have that ridiculous expectation, they wouldn't get very far with it.

Picked this up today after watching a "Let's Play" series on YouTube and reading over the 2.0 stuff. If I can get in on the GAF Linkshell that would be awesome :)

I have not dipped my toe into FF-MMO since vanilla FFXI, should be interesting!

Sorry it took a bit long, but here's my follow-up with Yoshida-san. Unfortunately he was unable to answer two of my questions :( But I think it turned out well nonetheless.

Thanks for that, it's a pretty good interview which clarifies quite a few things, including the primal battles. Don't really see a point in both Free Companies and Linkshells being in the game, which will probably just create unnecessary confusion, but oh well, guess we should be used to those kinds of things by now.

Had a ridiculously great XP PT tonight with Isamu and Sieg. 45-50 just flew by. Just need to hit Aurum Vale for a piece of my DRG AF, then knock out the final DRG quest for the DRG AF there and I can finally focus on end game stuffs.

Sorry if this is a dumb old question, but is there a way to play this in "windowed fullscreen"? As in, having it fill the whole screen but being able to smoothly alt-tab. Thanks!

Also I'll be on most of tonight. I'd love a pearl if I can get one. Message Amaro Kalamari in game if you can. I'm a Lalafell pugilist, just starting out.

I could use a pearl for whatever the newest incarnation of the shell is too - hoping to actually get some stuff done before 2.0 now that I'm back from various summer activities.

Interesting read, really nice we'll have new music from different composers as well (hope in mitsuda and sakimoto too!). And the actual development team is really huge.. Hope the new scenario director is Masato Kato D:

Here is a new shot,

Thank you so much for asking my question Kamate. Just wish they would realise that you can bypass what they see as a problem by just letting people were class and job locked gear as fashion items lol. Oh well, my thread on forums is still up and hopefully the mods will pass on that little detail. xD

Download the little program called Shiftwindow. Then set the game to your max resolution windowed, then Shiftwindow can get rid of the windows border. Tada, pseudo-fullscreen and you can alt-tab. :)

I still can't really wrap my head around crafting. So very convoluted. :/ Concentrating on my main classes/jobs, though, is becoming extremely fun. Just got CON to 50 - now I just need a group to get my WHM gear, then I'll probably start leveling THM. :D

That's why I'm waiting with craft until 2.0.

RPG Site: Will speed runs be kept for version 2.0? It seems a lot of people on the forums are not in favor of that type of content, especially when having to go back to content you already played through before.
Yoshida: Speed runs will remain in the game (for achievement purposes), however, they will no longer be necessary to obtain equipment upgrades. Expect the reward system for these runs to change greatly.

Thats great news, thanks for asking that question :D

Think its convoluted now, you should have seen what crafting launched as. Weaver crafts took like 5-8 sub crafted components and each of those needed 1-2 sub crafted components and more then half the ingredients needed special 1 time only use material from other crafts including many things that were higher in level then the final craft you were trying to make. With exception to the new high end recipes now all they need is raw material from a variety of crafts, most of which are never higher then the recipe you are trying to make!
