I wouldn't mind clearing a game by sneaking into the main villain's quarters and slipping some poison into this food. Would give the game a more RPG feel. I guess they didn't want to make a good scenario out of it.

I dunno- some quests every now and then involving minigames like that instead of combat seems a good idea for variety. It's just when the only choice is between 'Parley' and 'Fetch quests' that the game suffers.

I'm fine with mini-games, just not like parley. Now to get a better bargain from an npc by playing a card game, or having to stealth around in an enemy hideout? Those are fine.

Parley is completely braindead and unbelievably slow - there isno challenge, and it takes FOREVER for the tiles just to slide around after each turn.

Amen to that. I was just slightly overreacting in fear that all the quests in 2.0 will be 'kill ten moosesquirrels' or the equivalent- hell, just bring back a simplified Triple Triad or some similar minigame to replace it is all I'm asking.

As the guy who flat-out told Yoshi-P that Parley sucked and should be removed, I'm obviously very happy to see it going away.

And the problem with Parley is not that I don't want mini-games in the game, it's that I specifically don't want fucking awful mini-games in the game.

Parley is completely braindead and unbelievably slow - there isno challenge, and it takes FOREVER for the tiles just to slide around after each turn. Most of all, though, is that it's not fun. Anyone defending Parley is somehow ignoring all of these things.

Even if it's called "Parley" and they replace it with something that's actually fun, I'll be back on-board. But the game that's there now is awful and unsalvageable.

I like Parley :( (as long as I actually participate in parley content near the correct level...). There is a lot things wrong with Parley, but the biggest flaw is the slowness of the game (UI issue), and stupidity of the level fluctuation system where if you try doing a lvl 20 parley as a lvl 50... the NPC tries to lose, but you do it while you are 10-15 levels below recommended level, the NPC cheats lol. Think it could have been salvaged but yes it didn't belong in mission content.

Glad they are adding local data centres.

Level caps and syncs are also a plus for me, 2.0 is shaping up to be quite good, liking the changes to the battle system also.

I'm all geared up. Outside acquiring a lot of gil and purchasing a Darksteel Haubergeon+1 with a lot of Piety from melds, I'm pretty much set until 2.0. I think I'm reasonably well-geared, though budgeted as I don't play this game to an obsessive degree. So now I want to clear the dungeons (ideally doing the extra challenges from the achievements) and beat Garuda. The hard Nael fight would be a bonus. How we gonna do this?

Anyway, I really do like the original flavor of the game. I see this every time I do the original class quests. They've certainly made a shift as of late with the Grand Company (which alone seems to have consumed the setting as the sole purpose of anything) and Job quests, but I hope it doesn't change much more with 2.0 and this is just an in-between state. I like the idea of over-the-top fantasy peaking in (or pulled up from below) and disrupting this world, but not so much a complete transformation with all verisimilitude thrown out.

Maybe, but it still kind of cheapens the fight for that person. I guess a good middle ground would be to not start the fight clock/ have the enemies aggro until that person comes out of the scene. You are right in that they should not be forced to watch the scene, but they shouldnt be able to engage/timed battle timers shouldnt start while someone is watching.
Didn't they fix that in XI by making all the scenes watchable before the battle? Can't remember any battles post WoTG where the scenes happen after the battle timer starts.

I like the draw distances :(

Man, don't mind me, I'm just bitter about this shitty laptop meaning if I look up in-game it looks like Eorza's under attack by 3 atari sprites flying in formation.

And that Limnsa from afar looks like porn someone heavily censored.

I believe so, but not in XIV. Ifrit timer starts as soon as one person hits go. At least...I remember that being the case.

So are people melding materia to all equipment that they're sporting? I haven't been able to meld my own stuff yet and started thinking I should ask people to meld my materia to my stuff.

Also, when does re-selling your equipment become more important than converting it to materia? I have a ton of level 1 materia.

Got my legacy email this morning! It was a nice surprise since I missed the original deadline and I didn't know they changed the requirements. Makes me glad I didn't cancel my sub during my summer vacation.

Wrapped up the rest of the GC quests tonight. We tried UWS last week and it didnt go to well and we wiped at 50%. This time, it went much better, everyone was on the same page, and we didnt have any real hitches at all.
We knocked off Raven on our first attempt.

Battles like those last two and exactly what I want from this game.

I say once or twice a weekend, we tackle Garuda. Since school is popping up soon, I wouldn't want this to be at 2 am (EST). I'm thinking 8 to 12 am EST. Now who would be interested in that? The way I see it I have two linkshells to draw from, but this is the only one I talk to in a more permanent medium.

BTW, I'm a Dragoon only. I don't think having two DRGs on Garuda might be a good idea, but what do I know? I'm still researching strategy.

Yep, can't say I regret playing through 1.0. The final battle beats out most of CoP for sure, so it has been very worth it for me to experience it. Don't what 2.0 will be like, but we will have to see.

I'm almost starting to lose motivation to stick around, but I guess that's due to a few other things in my life right now - I'd really like to finish at least that last MNK quest and the main GC stuff (currently on United We Stand) before 1.0 runs out though.

Luckily I did get some tips on gear I think I should be able to afford after that was an issue on a Moogle fight shout group - I'd better get to it next time I log in. Still, it's going to be annoying to buy stuff I probably won't be able to repair on my own, I could do without a gilsink, but time is the bigger commodity right now...

I'm interested. 5-9pm PST (I think that's the local equivalent) is certainly preferable for me over later.

The fights were on par with CoP for me but I loved how they didnt have all that between mission fluff that CoP had...such as spending hours farming items with low drop rates so you can trade them in for CCB Polymers for the U/O fight.

I just love the feeling of beating a difficult fight with a group of friends and seeing everything just work out so well. I probably had the biggest grin on my face yesterday when Darnus went down.

Someone mentioned to me last night that theres a quest I can do that will allow me to take part in Caravan Security for the other grand companies. Whats the name of this ques?
I belong to Maelstrom and cant seem to ever find a Skull Valley group.

It was a GC quest that leads up to United We Stand (Don't Hate the Messenger, or something). So you've already done it.

This Imperial content is so miserable. Has anyone even figured out what we're supposed to be doing?

I was doing this last night wit ha random group but got nothing. Imperials will spawn at certain times in certain areas.Basically you need to kill many until a group that has an H-1 Vangaurd Magitek spawns. Killing it will give you the Tricorne or Imperial Hat.

The item goes to the winning blow meaning you could idle by and let a group kill it run in and finish it off and claim one of the items. I have been reading this a alot and it seems like it is true.Although there are alot of chances it's still kind of lame.

yes and Iffy Moogle and Garuda battles all will be gone 2.0

Well, not touching those till I'm better geared (same with the last few GC quests) but thanks for warning they're going. I presume they're going to return in a different guise with this summoning system, though?

So tomorrow is probably the best time to start getting seals then?

I saw someone say that all GC type quests give 2x the amount of seals during Foundations Day? Is that true? Chocobo caravan included in this?
