I missed them. I am too embarrassed to call myself a TTGL fan now.

I hardly know who anyone here is in-game, you may have not even been around! :p

Edit:

I know I said I was going to take screenshots, but considering I spent most of the 2 hour even on mumble with the LS looking at server error messages, there wasn't much to take pics of. Those who didn't, or couldn't, get on didn't miss much. Nevertheless...

A few hours before the event at Camp Crooked Fork in northern Coerthas, looking southeast. This was northernmost outpost in the whole 1.x game world.

During or right before the event, running around mob-free Mor Dhona for some vantage points.

Snapped while running around stuck in R0 mode during one of the numerous mass-disconnects of the evening waiting for the game to kick me to character screen. This is right at the edge of the lake thing in the center of Mor Dhona, looking southeast again. Really liked how the cliffs framed Dalamud like that.

After getting fed up with trying to fight imperials with so much server (constant R500+) lag that I literally couldn't react to anything, I just went home to Limsa Lominsa, put on something more comfortable than my plate armor, put on my guardian deity's signet ring for good measure, and got ready to try to catch some Dalamud fragments on my Dalamud Horn (that's why we got this silly thing, right?). Server went down as I was snapping last-minute lightning screenshots.

Yeah, some sort of in game Legacy or 1.0 title would be nice.

I guess I don't get why people ask for this... There are already several titles you could only get in 1.0. There's already Legacy status with its perks, both visible and invisible. And to me (and maybe this will change in 2.0), simply checking someone was such a time-consuming chore that I, and I know I can't be alone in this, didn't even really ever bother to look at peoples' titles. Heck, I think I had well over a dozen of them before I even bothered to set one for myself (the best one, by the way, "Princess for a Day"). I mean, if I fire up 2.0 in a few months and find my character with a bonus title I have nothing against that, but it would feel pretty meaningless to me.

Besides! If anyone deserves an extra title, it's Louisoix.

Can't wait to get into alpha/beta, they hinted that phase 3 and 4 of the alpha would be opened to the other regions.

I imagine they will open the beta up to all previous members (SE account holders) and then open it up fully in the last few months.

According to one of the XIV reps (forgot what their official forum name was lol), the last clash between the Eorzean alliance and the empire is known as The Battle of Carteneau.

This'll need to go into the new OP no matter what.

Seeking control over this realm and its abundant crystal resources, the Garlean Empire (a scientifically advanced nation hailing from the north) begins gathering an army of epic proportions. To ready themselves for the coming conflict, the city-states of Eorzea reinstate the Grand Companies─comprehensive centers of command which combine the commonwealths’ military and economic assets. However, the commander of the invading forces, VIIth Imperial Legion Legatus Nael van Darnus (a.k.a. “White Raven”), has plans of his own. Driven by madness, he silently plots to usher in a more permanent form of devastation: Meteor.

The Meteor project is comprised of a complex scheme employing arcane magicks and lost technology to summon the lesser moon down to Eorzea in an attempt to annihilate the realm’s inhabitants in one fell stroke. Dalamud, as the celestial object is commonly known, is revealed to be a colossal machine launched thousands of years ago into the planet’s orbit by an ancient civilization.

Realizing the futility of standing alone against such a threat, the Grand Companies put aside deep-rooted differences and consolidate their forces under the banner of the Eorzean Alliance.

At the behest of this new confederation, adventurers from across the realm take up arms and march on the floating islands of Rivenroad. Here, the brave heroes confront Nael van Darnus, and after a heated battle, put him to the sword. But by this time, the White Raven’s plan is too far along, and Dalamud continues its descent.

In an eleventh-hour bid to save mankind, the Grand Companies turn to Louisoix, an enigmatic scholar hailing from the forgotten city-state of Sharlayan. The ‘Archon,’ as he is called, devises a plan to summon the power of the Twelve, Eorzea’s pantheon of guardian deities, and use that power to banish Dalamud back to the heavens. But for this to succeed, the rite needs to be performed directly beneath the point of Dalamud’s impact. After several sleepless nights of deliberation by the realm’s foremost arcanists and astronomers, that point is determined to be a vast swathe of barren lowlands in central Eorzea known as the Carteneau Flats. With this information in hand, the Grand Companies order the immediate mobilization of their forces.

Unbeknownst to the Alliance, the soldiers of the VIIth Imperial Legion, oblivious to their leader’s dark intentions, have also begun gathering in central Eorzea. Ordered to defend the area with their lives, they prepare for a fight, unaware that victory will bring about their own demise.

And so, with two great hosts amassed, the Battle of Carteneau begins.

Both sides fight with a desperation-fueled frenzy, neither yielding the other ground, until from the skies, a great roar issues. Dalamud has begun its final metamorphosis. In a matter of moments, the stone and metal of the moon’s crust crumble away to reveal none other than the elder primal, Bahamut, now free from his ancient prison.

And thus do the people of Eorzea learn what it is that truly faces them. Never was it the White Raven’s intention to blight the realm with Dalamud, but what slumbered within it.

Enraged after aeons of duress, Bahamut unleashes his wrath upon the realm, spewing forth endless fire and destruction. Louisoix quickly conjures a barrier to protect what remains of the Eorzean Alliance, and then begins the arcane rite that will channel the power of the Twelve and focus it into rebinding Bahamut. The sheer force of the primal, however, is too strong for even the Archon, and his efforts fail.

Realizing the end is nigh, Louisoix summons the last of his strength to call upon Althyk, the Keeper, god of space and time, to send those surviving heroes into an aetherial rift, where they are to remain untouched by the passing of the seasons until it is once again safe to emerge…and continue their struggle to forge Eorzea’s future.

Aren't LS member limits going up in 2.0? I know FCs for sure will be able to have a lot of members. Either way, chances are we'll still have more than one LS/FC like we do now (one for everyone, and one for the subset of everyone who stick around, stay active, and are engaged in group events). For what it's worth, I think the majority of RD who has been active for the last few months isn't even on GAF, or they're like me and don't visit regularly.

Mish? XD

The only thing I'm wanting to know more about is the Companion Battle system they showcased with the Chocobo as a Party Member that could fulfill various roles in the party with the PC. Such as Healer, Caster, Tank, or Melee Damage, just haven't heard them touch on the subject since the live with the different armors that they could wear. Actually rather interested in this overall, and the future possibility of adding more monsters to the list of companions (Tonberry).

Rather okay with the feature getting delayed to work on the more important ones, just was hoping to hear a bit more with what their thinking of doing with the system overall. Looking forward quite a bit to the chance with Alpha at the end of the month.

Hola! So i avoided this game liked the plague i was devastated that it didnt live up to my old ffxi days. So i totally forgot about the whole rebirth thing and now i want to try it myself but i want to know if i can mix n match my armor? I love it when games let me do this and since wow and gw2 do it i was wondering if this game allows it.

Also a bit off topic but i went to the LA Gaf meet up and i met a person who loved ff14 i dont remember your name but you had glasses and a similar navy coat as mine but mine was blue...just wondering if you still post here.

Lol probably Ravi

What can I do for you, Rain?

and yes, we'll continue to have two LSes with the same MO we've had before. It'd be nice to combine the two with free company, but we have no idea what limits are or if that's realistic.

That said, your avatar's a bit funny thinking about it now.

If you were referring to the K-bbq, as far as Red Dots go, Ravi, The Ziz, and I all attended.

I don't think so. I think I was wearing glasses. Maybe Zulfate is talking about me. It is a shame I don't remember what I was wearing. I'll search for pics tommorow. I am sure there in a thread somewhere.

I don't think any of us were wearing glasses.

but then again, he might be talking about another LA GAF meetup.

Indeed. What I find interesting is the sheer amount of people waiting in the rafters that are willing to give it a try now. It is good to know the haven't completely destroyed faith in the series.

I usually love RPS but that "article" is pretty crappy.

RPS is usually fair and I pretty much always agree with them but this made me a bit sad. Sounds like Alec is tired of seeing fantasy MMOs and what they offer in art direction and music, in which case maybe he shouldn't be the one to report the news. The comments were to be expected though, as most of the RPS community hates on MMOs. In a fantasy setting anyway.

There's this image going around with different miqo'te tails that surprised me. Sure, it's nothing too flashy, but I was only expecting more options in coloring paterns and such when they say there would be more customization with that.

Good point how many LA Gaf meet ups have happened? Lol

The guy im refering too is a black guy he was really nice.

Thanks! You are probably talking about me. I remember I had a coat and glasses on. There were a few meetups after the K BBQ. There was a bar crawl, some LA Art Walk and more. Wish I could go to some more but moved to Austin, then Finally back to Miami.

So now I guess I have to look for South FL Gaf Meetups.

Aside from Rock, Paper, Shotgun, where a number of commenters (and the article poster) seem to have caught a case of perpetually bad taste/grognard syndrome.

Hey, not everything can be sunshine and roses...

People make a big deal about Doritos or whatever, but it is this form of game journalism which actually bugs me. He couldn't be bothered to write an accurate blog entry, but he still did it to gather clicks.

Awesome. Yeah I miss LA. I also miss Austin. I spent most of my life here in South Florida So I really didn't have a chance to miss it. Ahh well.....

I know they exist. The last thread I remember reading about it was the Zelda Concert in Miami and the following afterparty.

I was still in Austin so I missed out on that one.

I'm the dude in the middle of the back with the short hair and, apparently, super-giant ears.

That picture does not do any justice to the amount of people there that night, does it?

Edit: I play GW2 with Hawkian so I will ask him what is up with SoFla GAF Meet ups.
