Everyone other than the monk must have had mixed feelings lol.
I know it might sound untrue, but I'm honestly just happy to have the clear. We've all been putting in a lot of overtime these last couple of days, so it's nice to see it finally pay off.

Obviously gear would have been nice, but the Monk [i.e., Bookey] who received the items puts in a lot of work [we all do], so I'm just happy to see us receive useable loot and not something that would just sits on our alt(s).

Here's hoping we don't see repeat items next week, though. That...would upset me. :(

Nah, usable loot that benefits the group as a whole is always good.

I'm gonna fast forward 2 weeks into the future and predict one of Kagari's posts.

Hey guys, can you give me some input regarding this game? Here are my questions:

- How solo-friendly is this game?
- Is it fun to play mostly solo? If so, what is the most fun class to do so ? (preferably meele)
- What do you think about the game world/lore ? Is it fun to explore and discover things about the setting and such or is it shallow and just "there" ?

I like MMO's that have a lot of exploration and a lot of cool little details in the world, with some cool and interesting stories on the quests and such. I usually care more about the side stuff than the main story in these games.

I want an MMO to play casually, and honestly the biggest draw for me in this game is the fact that I can play with a controller on my TV.

let me know your opinions! Thanks!

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I don't have time to scan through the thread right now.

So the free trial version just came out on PS4. If I make a character on that and later on proceed to buy a physical version, do I keep my progress? I think a few months ago I read somewhere you would only keep your progress if you upgraded to a digital version.

LiQuid!

You can solo the entire game to 50 easily. The only times you can not are doing the main quest line at certain milestones your progress is gated by mandatory group encounters or dungeons. These are matchmade (just wait in a queue while you do other things) and are mostly very simple even with groups of dipshits.

As for the world/story/lore. I think the game has a really strong design. It's fun to explore. Aside from the first few hours I went into auto-MMO mode where I click thru most of the dialog (especially in the side fetch quests) and skip a lot of cutscenes. It's a lot of corny, anime nonsense. If you're into that kind of stuff you will probably get a lot out of the main quest, but the vast majority of the side quests is typical MMO fare. There are occasionally fun storylines that even I took notice of, but they are rare.

The things I like about this game is it's strong old-school Final Fantasy flavor. Crystals and dragoons and black mages in Vivi robes. That kind of design that I like from FF1-5 and 9. Also I really like the game's focus on raising a single character who has access to all jobs. I love playing all classes in games but I hate making alts and having to play thru content again. It's more grindy this way because you don't have access to the main/side quest lines, but so far leveling alternate classes has not been too tedious because there are a lot of random things to do and you get automatic bonus exp on all classes that aren't your highest level.

I say check it out. It's very relaxing to play with a controller, even if I think there are certain things using a controller makes way more complicated than they should be (simple things like zooming the minimap requires so many button presses and it's such an instantaneous thing with a mouse). I haven't played many modern MMOs aside from sampling some free ones (Tera, SWtoR, et al) and this one shits on those, and hard.

- Very Solo Friendly! At least with core gameplay. Progression through the game does require groups but the Duty Finder works great and they reward veteran players who assist new players in the Roulettes and such

- Very fun. Its a very convenient game so there are very few walls in the way of having fun. Actually they go out of their way to provide mountains of incentives. Hunting Logs, Daily Challenge logs, etc... Solo play is a breeze.

- Ehh.... Game world and Lore is ok. They throw a LOT of text and scenes at you. I found myself skipping a LOT of it and still getting the gist of the story. However that had more to do with a sense of urgency by playing with other players and friends. Since you plan on doing a lot solo you might have a different take.

Regardless this game is a bit grossly overwritten.

Maybe I'm missing something.

Downloaded Steam Free Trial, made a character and ran around for ten minutes to make sure it'd run alright.

Bought a copy on the Square Enix store since it's on sale. I understand I can't use that to register the Steam Trial version. Uninstall Steam Trial. Download new client following the PC Download steps in my order. Redownloaded last night.

Now any time I go to Account and try to register my code it tells me I can't use my registration code because it's still the Steam Trial. I imagine this is because that's what's tied to my username? Is there a way to fully remove it? I'll remake the character I created and not worried about losing that.

Or is my only option to create a second Square Enix user and register it to that?

I can't find any way to have a second client listed within the Mogstation.

I'm sure the game will be great once I get this all sorted out and playing but this hasn't been the greatest way to get started.

So has the duty finder been weird for anyone the last few days? I've been doing Wanderer's Palace runs for my Zodiac weapon and it'll find a party but then not actually pop for several minutes to commence the duty. Its so weird. I qeue as a tank it finds a party almost instantly but still takes like 6 minutes for the duty to commence.

Is Gather Against Fate still an active guild on Ultros? Thinking about joining even though I'm based in Europe.
I am from europe. During the day it feels a bit empty but during the evening it gets better. However don't expect to see a lot of the gaf members unless you play really late.

Yeah, playing with the gaf guild on Ultros, though I limit most of my play time to raiding because the rest of the content is zzz.

Nice, been considering starting XIV here recently with the gaf guild. After the fallout that was Wildstar, I took a break from MMO's really. I did play some WoW for a bit, but ya.

Keynote is tonight isn't it? I'm up early tomorrow so can't stay up for it. Guess I'll be catching up tomorrow in this thread.

Hoping for some good expansion stuff though.

OT has big bursts of activity, followed by relative inactivity. I blame it on the expansion nearing, and the amount of end game content thinning slightly in preparation for said expansion.

I mean as far as end game is concerned, 2.4 added Shiva and Final Coil, and Final Coil is beyond the average players grasp.

Nah, we just need another argument.

Ninja is the lowest melee dps now, and people shouldn't raid with it seriously.

That should do the trick.
