As for using a Fire 1 before the second Flare, that's a great idea. I should give that a try next time.

I play SMN, I have to savor all the MP ;__;

I don't know if it really gains anything but, say, Snowcloak or Qarn or whatever always has that one thing in the pull that has like waaaay more HP than everything else so I just blow it up with an extra cast there (+ the small buffer between double Flare aggro for an extra Flash / Overpower). I think it's the PLD in me where I'm just always trying to rotate my combo as needed.

also because the first few times I tried BLM I went to AoE something and the thing I had targeted died and my spell didn't cast and I was sad.

That works too. :)

I like hard-casting the first Flare, since it gives the tank a bit more extra time before the first Flare hits. Granted it's immediately following by another, Swiftcasted one, and Quelling Strikes is still up, but I am a squishy sort and would rather live if possible.

Hardcasting the first Flare and Swiftcasting the second one is better because it allows you to hit Transpose before the second GCD is up. You might get a mana tick inside that window.

Hardcast Flare (4s) + Convert + Swiftcast + Flare -> Transpose = Transpose happens after the first 4s + animation lock on Convert + Swiftcast.

Swiftcast Flare (2.5s) + Convert + Flare (4s) -> Transpose = Transpose happens after 6.5s.

Pretty sure the animation lock isn't 2.5s long, so the first is optimal.

Haven't tried throwing out an extra Fire after Convert but I don't think it changes anything here.

Haha, that definitely happens in my groups too. It's definitely worth experimenting with.

Also, patch downloading! Get excited, people. 2.5 is nearly upon us.
