I don't know what to believe anymore.

So is this game casual friendly? I keep seeing stuff about mastering rotations and that looks hard.

Also how do you dodge attacks? People say you can, but I circle strafe around enemies with my Monk and get hit still.

Not really sure what learning rotations has to do with being casual friendly. No, you can't just mash buttons in random orders and be good. You do have to put in some effort to perform well. For most classes, this means learning your optimal combo rotations.

Move out of the angry orange areas. You can't dodge auto-attacks and targeted skills, just telegraphed area of effects.

Rotation flow charts I have seen online seem complicated. There's an area in-between memorizing some page long flow chart and "just mashing buttons." Or is there not?

rotation flow charts aren't the hard to understand, it's just that you obviously haven't played so you don't know what skills do, and most rotations just come down to keeping certain buffs and dots up and doing other attacks/combos in the mean time. There is a free up to level 20 trial you can do if you want to check out the game, I believe

Is any of the new crafters gear worth it? I was just planning to get an artsan offhand made and call it good.

The offhands are definitely worth it if you're looking to do 4 star crafting or just to make 3 star crafting a bit easier. As for the body pieces, they're not absolutely necessary but since all crafters can use them it's helpful if some of your other crafters aren't fully melded yet and you want to play catch up. You can also hit the same stat caps with them whether they're HQ or NQ. You'll need to spend more money on materia if they're NQ obviously but it's not a total loss. Plus they have 3 slots instead of 2! \o/

Is it weird that im focusing more on leveling my crafting/gathering classes than my combat classes?

Nope. You can even dedicate yourself to those two only if you want.

Get to the crafting endgame. Dominate the markets. Become a multi-millionare. Blow really expensive gear up. Become Legend™.

You're not done with this game until you can buy an entire mist subdivision for yourself

To be fair, trying to understand most the flowcharts without knowing all the skills is really rough. Once you know them all it'll boil down to stuff like when to use buffs and then switching between various combos. Even like Dragoon's 30-something combination is really just "do this for the buff, this one for the debuff+DoT, this one for raw damage, and repeat it a lot with jumps when they don't kill you"

Basically, most will come naturally with all the skills available but just optimized in terms of the order to get the most out of every buff/debuff/DoT timer.

Oh cool, I may try to get those whenever I can. I would love to cut down on armoury space too. Thanks!

This is mostly true. Example: I had no idea about stuff like WAR skills so when I see them mentioned or see people discussion Tank enmity combos and how to play WAR and stuff. I just think "wut?"

But after playing WAR, I understand all it now. The game does a pretty good job of easing you into it through class/job quests and dungeons (unless you fate grind anyway) and by level 50, you'll have a good idea about your skills, how they work together and all you need to do at 50 is optimize how you play..

Jumped back onto this today on the PS4 after like a year hiatus. Is there a good primer on everything that's changed since.... I guess the initial relaunch? haha

I actually got as far as Cape Westward before jumping over to some other games, so I know I still have the story to complete, but was curious if there was anything else new that might be worth my time to look into before doing that (assuming it's not all end game stuff). I saw something at the grand company on hunts but wasn't able to do that, sounds like I need to do a quest first to get that going.

Otherwise I'm going to fool around with rogue and some crafting/farming classes to get back into the groove before trying to jump into some of those later dungeons.

Pretty sure I just tanked a party with The Three Stooges. Larry was the Black Mage aggroing everything. Curly was the White Mage popping Divine Seal and Cure 3s with not a care in the world for his MP or aggro. Moe was the Ninja who thought he was way better than he actually was, even though he was the only one to die during the entire run. o_O

I mean it wasn't a bad run (we finished with no wipes and got lots of XP), but it was almost comical in how silly the mistakes were. >_>

Not having T9 on my shoulders has been really nice today. Helped my new group clear Shiva, *Thanks Moara, hope you like the Bracelet,* and helped another friend get his Ninja from mid 30's to mid 40's. *Mostly him, but I helped him with a couple dungeon runs.*

You know, just being able to do stuff that was actually productive, instead of banging my head against a wall, just to check something off my to-do list. XD

What, no pictures to accompany your journal entries?

I was busy crafting some alchemy materials in the basement of my free company's house (and waiting for my party to be full for a Shiva run) when I stumbled upon this video (parody of Frozen and Breaking Bad).

Ankward.

Stuck on Shiva. Found a couple parties who were able to bring her to 9%, but more often than not small errors pile up...

Hopefully the patch today will fix connection problem. I've been having constant 90K for a few days now (on both PC and PS4) and it's frustrating as hell. I've tried every solution I can think of (wtfast, reset router, port forwarding etc) and nothing seems to help. Common sqe :/

With a lot of people coming back for 2.4 and Final Coil being released, I thought it might be a good idea to post a reminder about the GAF Coil LS.

For people on Ultros, we have a GAF Coil linkshell for members that are geared up and interested in tackling content in second and final coil. There are groups that are still looking for permanent members and membership can change within groups from time to time. If your schedule is not conducive to a static group, you can also use this as a resource to fill in for other established GAF groups as needed, when people are looking for temporary replacements.

I would recommend joining if you have any interest in this content at all. Just ask for an invite in FC chat or PM one of the officers. Most (all?) GAF coil groups should have at least one representative in the LS that can send invites. If you are a NeoGAF member, you can still join without needing to be a member of our FC, if that is an issue. Just send me a PM here on NeoGAF with your character name.

Oh my god, I totally need this.

There is a sightseeing side quest that you can start in Gridania I believe. You have to go to a very specific spot, at a specific time, under specific weather conditions and then do a specific emote! You start with 20 and once you get those you get another 60. When you do them all you unlock an Apkallu minion for all your troubles. You can either choose to find out where you need to go and what you need to do in each spot going by the little clues they give you in the sightseeing log or you can cheat and hold onto some of your sanity. The choice is yours!

And Shiva EX down. The fight isn't that difficult, but requires good positioning and reactivity. There shouldn't be any reason to hit the hard enrage, unless everyone died at least once or more. Still need to farm it for the wrist item and the bow though.

Training groups are legion, but farming ones pretty much demand you to link an item (or your lodestone for the achievement). Players like me who know perfectly the fight after countless training parties but didn't down it yet end up in a weird situation: you become so accustomed to the fight that you don't need (or want) to join training ones anymore, but you can't join farming ones, since you can't prove your level of skill (unless they accept you nonetheless... something which never happen). I was lucky enough to find one which didn't ask to link anything, and which didn't have the "2 fails = kick" rule (I'm really against such policy, though I understand that some players don't want to be bothered with people who obviously didn't even train a little beforehand). Ironically, I'm the one who made the less mistakes among them (barring that one stupid death during the second try - when everyone else already died once during this one).

Well, that's what Clear parties are for. Farm ones would ideally want people who can farm the fight, which doesn't really have any way to check for that.

Also, I'm pretty sure everyone is skeptical of people who don't have the clear but swear they know what they're doing. Hell, people are skeptical of those with the clear who swear they know what they're doing. Not enough reason really to auto-kick them in my opinion but can't blame people for being wary.

Still haven't messed with the sight seeing log. Everyone was telling me to jump into that during the rush when it first came out.

..I think I might have made the right decision.

Really bummed how the devs won't give us tools to see how people are performing. It would save us from a lot of grief if everyone would have a meter on their screen yelling when they're underperforming. This is my one and only gripe about the game. Man, I would really like some official meters to see how much heal is being pumped and how much damage is being done.

Of course you get to know this without meters when you play MMOs enough but going through these things with the underperformers is a pain in the butt. Really beginning to affect my desire to log in and I've been a huge fan from day one.
