that puzzling face
Do people just rush the fuck through games? I don't really get it.

I think a pretty common progression is:

1) ask "can you go back and do stuff after you finish the main quest?"
2) get told "yes"
3) bum rush the main quest ASAP to be able to start using the internet again like a normal human being without worrying about spoilers

I know an elixir can fix that but I'm all out.

Stock up on Elixirs.

They're meant to be quaffed like a Korean MMO.

Definitely this. I had originally intended to take my sweet time, but I'm on the internet all day at work instead of working and I have a real hard time not clicking on spoiler tags. I may just bum rush right through the rest.

Alternatively, I could just stay off the 'net.

Bahahahaha, I'm just kidding! It's the first one.

The more i play the more of a mess it feels. Still enjoying it quite a lot, but its easy to see this game had a troubled upbringing.

I agree with this and I haven't even put that much time into the game yet. The open world feels very empty and lifeless and the quests are as generic as they could be. I like some of the little moments where you can hear conversations with NPC's and what not but for the most part it all feels very forced like it was something added in towards the end of development rather then something that was naturally there.

The combat which I've spent the most time with is just boring for the most part. There are some flashy effects and some nice mechanics at play but the problem is that because the basic combo system is done by just holding down a button I tend to just not focus on what I'm doing since the system does all of that for me. Yeah you can guard/parry and do other things but the problem is that by taking away the players input (even if its just pressing a button over and over again at the right time to build up a basic combo like in the KH series) the player just doesn't focus on what they need to do in the actual battle. Maybe its something I can get used to but even now after playing for more then 5 hours I'm still trying to hit buttons to do combos instead of holding the button down, it just feels completely counter intuitive of giving the player actual input which I thought was the whole point of making this game an action RPG.

It doesn't help that the combat is very fast paced its very hard to keep up with whats going on in any given moment, it feels like everything is on fast forward if you were watching a video. It's good for some flashy effects but terrible for mechanics. The Guard/parry system is one of the few mechanics you need to be paying attention to but the only way you will ever be able to tell when to properly guard and parry or do bonus actions and what not is when the game is telling you to do them by putting the prompt on the screen at the right time. This makes it feel like most of the combat is just a quick time event then an action RPG and it just feels awful to me so far.

Magic also doesn't feel fun to use. I like the idea that its something thats limited (somewhat at least) and you have to be careful with it since it can effect your own party members too but at least with how far I've gotten theres no way to try and actually like group up enemies or signal your teammates to get away so you can unleash it at the right time, instead it feel like throwing a grenade in a First or Third person shooter except the aiming mechanics are much worse.

The characters are okay so far, haven't gotten far enough to see if any of them actually develop or get interesting but right now I just don't really like or care about any of them. Noctis is very aloof, Prompto is annoying, Gladious or whatever his name is is just kinda generic, and Ignis constantly seems to have a stick up his butt. I don't tend to let first impressions bother me so but combined with the other elements of the game I'm really not liking any of them so far. It doesn't help that the voice acting feels very monotone and the lip syncing is horrendous which just makes it that much worse.

I'd love for someone to tell me it really gets better since I know many of the reviews were praising the open world and combat but this is just not fun to me at all, I'd love to say the story can save it but I've already been spoiled and I know I'm going to hate it.

That's my problem. I don't know if I want to rush the game so I don't get spoiled too much, or if I want to keep playing slowly.
I'm in chapter 3, level 27, 13 hours in

Like in real life, I fish too much..

I love this fishing game, but I do wish that we have had more spots to fish from. The open world feels not as big as I had hoped for.

Because playing an open world game like a linear game misses 99% of the content in the world.

There are people out their who have other shit they would rather do , than get their fill of monotonous content.

Yup, but i do often find that i enjoy quality side content more, before the ending of the story.
Especially in the case of dragon age and MGSV, which kinda just made me sad c:

People shouldn't worry about spoilers so much.

Finally popped this in to play it, and the subtitles miss the last few lines leading into the logo reveal.

Rip, back to english voice.

I'm shocked some people seem to hate the Chapter 9 setpiece. I loved it.

Also someone else in this thread needs to beat Pitioss SO I CAN TALK ABOUT IT WITH THEM

Just starting chapter 3, glad to be out of the first area, it can be a drag to look at after a while. The banter between the guys has been pretty good so far, the side quest aren't special which is disappointing, the combat is underwhelming but felt that way about it for a while but it could be worst so I'll deal. There are a few other annoying things but I've been having fun overall.

Ready for Chocobos.

I will...if I even notice it. Otherwise it's overblown bullshit like a lot of what's said around here is when it comes to technical things in games. Guess I'll see.
I don't think the framepacing is nearly as bad as Bloodborne's was most of the time

It's a very slight quick stutter that happens occasionally, it's not even close to gamebreaking (but if you are sensitive to it, it will be really annoying)

Combat gets better when the game forces you to do more than hold down a button. In a way, its like the previous games in so far that things don't open up until a few hours in.

I agree with most of this. Combat kind of just lacks tactile feedback. It's flashy and impressive initially but hours later it's coming across as very shallow. I really at least wish parries demanded an input, not a hold.

The satisfaction or punch just is lacking all around. Even when I line up a perfect fire spell grenade, I come away thinking "thank god that landed!" due to the depth perception and guidelines not being informative enough as to what actually gets hit when I toss. Just not satisfying and resources are so barren early in that it's easier to not bother.

Characters have been ok with me, but acting does feel off. I'lol see if my opinion changes but day 1 hasn't moved me much.

I never knew that game even had that problem until I saw people mentioning it with regards to FFXV. I never played it but I saw and read a hell of a lot about it.

Minor UCE complaint:

Why couldn't S-E have packaged the two Blu-rays together in one case instead of splitting them up between the game case and the soundtrack case? It would have been so much easier to store them on my shelves that way.

If you lock on with R1, the spell reticle will begin at the enemy's location, taking all semblance of skill away from the action.

Am I missing something with the Deadeye fight? The fire spell seems borderline useless since I can't actually target barrels

Do I target his feet and throw when he steps on one?

The limited number of throws makes it super frustrating when it doesn't set off a barrel

I'm shocked some people seem to hate the Chapter 9 setpiece. I loved it.

you literally hold a button down......calling it a setpiece feels abit rich.
Like this is a setpiece from bayonetta 2 https://youtu.be/KMRsOjpgsPs?t=10m52s , which could of been similar to
levi
,there multiple segments and despite the majority of it being on rails, you still need to interact with the game and it doesnt just endlessly repeat itself.Despite this Bayo 2 is actually divisive in the community for this on rails feel, so you can expect action game players to just laugh at chapter 9.

Late game spoilers:
Actually I'm really really early in the game but I was spoiled by a YouTube thumbnail.
basically it showed what looks like Noctis and probably Luna holding each other at their wedding

This really pissed me off and deflated my hype. I guess I'm asking if I should just keep playing and not worry about it (aka way more stuff happens and I possibly have it misinterpreted, or is that essentially it?

Would anyone with the North American PS4 version be able to confirm what language options are available? Specifically, can Japanese be selected for both interface/in-game text or is it only available for voices?

I guess this should go in this thread (haven't finished the game yet) but I think Chapter 13 is really bad. Seriously one of my least favorite moments in a game this year and one of the things (among several) I've seen, especially in these double digit chapters, that makes the game feel like they left things on the plate and put together a mishmash of ideas.

The environment is really receptive, I can't tell if the enemies are bugged or not but sometimes they'll get stuck in places or lose their weapon and become unable to fight (the latter sounds intentional?), Holy removes all need for stealth (which I'm thankful for honestly), I think it takes like an hour longer than it should, and I felt the sudden change in tone and approach didn't really gel well with the game mechanics.

Boss at the end wasn't bad though. It sorta makes up for the rest of the chapter as it's the first story boss I felt actually gave you a real opportunity to think and use all the combat mechanics. Many I've encountered so far had a tendency to quickly jump all over the battlefield or interrupt the fight with sequences that are scripted or otherwise almost impossible to lose.

Is ps4 pro lite mode anything if worth? I'm going to be playing on a pro but only a 1080 tv

How long is the game if you avoid side missions ?

I went with english aswell, to my surprise. The subtitles are kinda hard to read, even on a monitor, so it's nice to ignore them.

That and the fact that the subtitles and japanese voice acting often don't match and jokes don't land. I can't speak japanese but after years of watching anime there are lots of words that I know, so it's not gibberish to me and a bit jarring when it's clearly different sentences.

You can choose it for voices and text.

So I've just entered Chapter 3 and I am pretty overlevelled at this point. Something that really annoys me however are the fucking Imperial Rifleman drops.

I just had to fight off 2 packs of wildlife and 1 group of Imperials at the same time. Barely made it out of the fight. However, after fight another squad of imperials drop and start shooting my team and we get instantly smashed. I don't even have time to react. What is this bullshit? They never stop shooting either, so you are fucked.

im on xbox, im noticing the weapon wheel thing in the bottom left kinda blurring. Like if I turn the camera really fast, i can see the blur on the weapon icons...almost like a ghosting effect. Any way to fix that? Its not a huge deal, but its bugging me since I noticed it. Now I focus on it haha

you literally hold a button down......calling it a setpiece feels abit rich.

Many setpieces in other games are "hold A for awesome".

Considering
the control scheme basically changes in that segment, I don't think it's ever really meant to be a showcase of player skill as it is an unlosable fight.

Remember, FFXV isn't really meant to be a character action game to begin with.

It looks like shit compared with other PRO games mate. I actually cant believe how poor it is, so much so I actually double checked to make sure I had the patch installed :( Its awful on 1080 compared with any of the other pro patched games. Still a good game just dont expect it to be a looker.

This game has one of the biggest oversights in game design I've ever witnessed. I'm talking about the fact that you can't sleep/wait till morning without cashing in EXP. Fucking clowns!
